Which console do you think can run crytek engine better? X360 or PS3?

Also, isn't crytek based on DirectX? or it also supports OpenGL?

Given the shear amount of CPU tasks required to run that game, I am going to go with the PS3 if it is coded correctly for the system.

I would disagree and think the Xbox 360 because the GPU is stronger on the 360 and because it will probably use the majority of the power available on the PS3/360, since the 360 has 512mb interchangable memory, but thats just an educated guess.

I have no idea which console would run the actual engine better, don't know much about it. As for the game itself, there's no doubt you'd need the Cell to run all the crazy physics.  Memory would be a huge problem, though.

Easily the PS3 given all the physics and amount of action on screen. The Cell is clearly advantageous in terms of CPU power.

It's somewhat believable for the X360 xenos to pull off rendering scenes from crysis, but frankly I don't know about the PS3. Do you think the PS3 RSX can handle crytek graphics without choking?

I don't know. I think the 360 might render textures lighting and stuff better but the ps3 mightrender the nuclear blast better and handle the AI better due to the Cell.

not realy, cell might be a strong cpu but it doesn't outperform xenon in everything, actualy the only thing that cell is better than xenon is rendering and not all of the games need that.i belive that when devs take full and i meen full advantage of cell then we might notice some differance.dut then there are graphics to be done and at that department 360 easily can run better any game without any cpu help unlike rsx that will cry for help from some spe's,and then developers will have to choose betwine a good grfx talking game but with bad physics or a good physics and AI game with worst grfx.So i vote for 360

you dont know what you're talking about.ps3 is limited in memory and also has a inferior gpu in enerything sops, pipelines, shader model,dx 10 features,triangles/s and 10mb edram. You are overhyping your machine too much.

yess!! easy pray to pick on! you know everything right fanboy? do you know Xbox360 DOES NOT USE DIRECTX10 API. You cant even say it really uses DirectX 9 because it has ITS OWN API.

ah i love some of the posts on here, some people dont even know what cryengine 2 is and are saying 360. Crytek is a company that doesnt put out half ass things. They take advantage of what they use to the fullest.

I'm probably wrong but I thought the cell was supposed to do the work of the gpu too. And they added the nvidia gpu at the later stages because they couldn't get it to work right.

cell is a very very good cpu but it's misused in ps3.

just speaking in realistic, right-now terms and not in ultimate potential... probably the 360. assuming Crytek is trying to port CryEngine 2.0 to all next-gen consoles, you don't see them hiring people to do the 360 port. that implies that they've already got it under control. :)

ps3...the cell would provide physics as good as the pc version and the graphics card is good enough if i remember.....apparently if you can run farcry on max settings you can run crysis on medium and since ps3s GPU is  more powerful than 2 6800ultras(1 is easly enough to run far cry on high) its should be able to

Hard to say, you'd think the Cell would give PS3 the advantage since you'd need a lot of proccessing power for all the crazy physics, but then you would also have to consider the PS3's split memory issue.

I believe at the moment, the Xbox360 can come closest to making the game look like Crysis, but I think the PS3 can come closest to making the game feel like Crysis (framerate aside).  That saying, the PS3 is already at a major disadvantage seeing that the game would be ported from PC, making its struture much easier to duplicate on an Xbox360.  In time though, I'm sure PS3 developers will learn the ins and outs of their machine.

If the Cryengine was ported to the Xbox360 or PS3, none of the games made on it would look nearly as good as Crysis does.

Why?

RAM bottleneck, no DX10, in-order processing.

Converting the crytech engine over the the Xbox360 might be easier but I believe that the PS3 could handle everything better once they get it converted. Here is why. Although People complain about the PS3 haveing a split memory issue. They seem to forget that the PS3 memeory is actually faster than the 360's. Also even though it does not have a direct link. Both the Cell and the RSX can use the 512mb if needed. Add to the Fact that the Cell has more on cach with each SPE having 256k cach and the main core having 1mb cach. That is part of the reason the Cell is so much faster. Then the RSX came out later. The Advantage that the RSX has right now is it came out later. Now no one knows the real world #s that the RSX can do but if we are talking about DX10 support Nvidia is in the lead in that manner. Now if we go further into it the Cell is a very capable GPU in it's self. The only thing that the Cell would need help on is lighting in real time. That is where the RSX comes in handy. if a developer really wanted to they could program everything for the Cell and still get a very good frame rate with a very decent looking game. but they also have the RSX as a dedicated GPU. giving the system more power to do other things. like AI and physics.

So just in case you don't want to read all that. The Xbox360 will be able to do a good job with the crytech engine. The PS3 will do a better job.
