Who cares about games and resolution, it's all about dem updates!

It seems the XBox One May update has arrived, bringing a few much requested features (which probably should have been there in the first place)

Now when you win a COD match you can hear about how someone fucked your mother, across platforms

Voice Messages – Starting today, you can now send and receive voice messages from the Xbox One messages app. This is the No. 1 feature requested in the Friends and Parties area on the Xbox Feedback site > “Add audio message …” Quickly and easily record audio to send to your friends or others through your snapped messages app, accessed through a simple quick double tap of the Xbox button. Additionally, voice messages can be exchanged between Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles.

And if pushing a button on your controller is too damn hard, you can now use SmartGlass to start your XB1 while you're on the toilet

Power On/Off from Xbox One SmartGlass – The Xbox One SmartGlass app for Windows, Windows Phone, iOS and Android are being updated to let you power your Xbox One on and off when your devices are on the same home network as your console.

There's also something about power mode or energy saving...something uninteresting

User Selectable Power Mode – We are also altering the initial setup experience on Xbox One worldwide to enable you to select your preferred power mode. Instant-on enables you to use the “Xbox on” voice command and receive background updates to console, game and app updates. Energy-saving mode is a low power state that requires you to press the Xbox button on your console to start up your Xbox One. For additional information, see this post on Xbox Wire.

And for those who feel the need for social interaction, for God knows what reason, they're starting to roll out Party Chat relay servers to non-Preview users

Dedicated Servers for Party ChatBack in March, we enabled dedicated chat relay servers for Xbox One preview members to solve NAT traversal issues that prevented some people from being able to use party chat. Over the coming weeks, we will start to expand the availability of the party chat relay services beyond preview members to a broader audience as we continue to fine tune the feature and scale out the servers needed to support party chat relay services.

Here's a video about it, featuring some old dude

How do you like them apples? Does the PS4 even get updates, bro? Besides that one that wipes data

The turning off and on with SmartGlass is awesome, I sometimes do the same thing with my PS4 and its app, because yes, lazy.

Do you have to be on the same network as well for the PS4?

Look at LastRib talking like he knows about The One.

This feature was on 360 and being brought to The One as it wasn't an important launch feature.

Ps4 launched without the ability to play a Blurray disc. Let's not criticize them though.

Well that would seem rather silly now

@Heil68: that's because let's face the facts here a PS4 is just Sony's Xbox 360 with a graphics bump and a PS logo

Same with Skype on Xbox One prior to this update......just kidding, but yeah I agree with the OP it is a feature that should have been there at launch, though it is cool that you can now send messages cross-platform to 360 users.....out of curiousity, can you do that on PS4(send voice msg to PS3 owners)?

Awesome don't know why they left out voice messages to being with for the Xbox One, 360 had it....

It is nice I can send voice messages on the X1 to the 360, it would be even better if I could party up with 360 friends too!

It could play blurays without the day one patch. All their games are on blu-ray disc which did not require any patching to use.

I think your confusing it with its functionality with 3D movie blu-rays that happened months later.

"It was able to play bluray movies and bluray games at launch." is incorrect because at launch you could actually play bluray games and bluray movies. Both xboxone and ps4 had patches at the very launch.

Microsoft Day one patch- "For transparency, we have stated that the Xbox One will need an internet connection to install the 'Day One' update, so even if the emergency update were available, you would still need to connect your console to the internet to successfully install the full update and use the console. If you will not have a connection available, I would suggest taking your console to a friends house or something, and installing the update their.". Didn't the xboxone require a day one patch to actually use the console? It couldn't do anything without the day one patch. No gaming, no movies. Nothing.

The day one patch logic just doesn't work unless you think xboxone couldn't do anything at launch.

"What about the ability to play music Cds?"

I am not playing the game what or what not xboxone/ps4 did or didn't have. I am just stating you were incorrect with the point you were trying to make. Music CD would have been a better point to use in your first response.

Wasn't voice messaging a day one feature on the 360? I didn't even notice it wasn't there. I'll check it out, it's cool you can now actually do stuff with the Smartglass App as opposed to just seeing who is online without turning on the console. Most smartglass in game functions are pretty weak thus far.

I'd really like to have a quick convo with Phil Spenser over XBL because I'd like to know why some of these things weren't implemented in the first place. Most of all I'd like to know why download speeds are slower with the XBO than they were with the 360. Yeah I know the XBO was rushed but come on we're talking about some very basic Xbox 360 features here!

These updates always remind me of how many features xbox one is missing. I'm surprised because MS is usually on top of this type of stuff. PS4 had this since launch from what I remember, it's just not very obvious since it's a little square submenu.

I remember on 360 I'd always get raging messages. It's a ok feature but there's not much use for it with party chat available.

I suspect they might have ommited the voice messages by design, as I've seen many people such as yourself mention you hardly use them....maybe they thought party chat was sufficient and voice messages were redundant, I don't know...I only mention this because I've read they put back voice messages since it was heavily requested on the Xbox feedback site, so maybe they thought it wasn't needed until they saw the demand and decided to put them back in. Either way it's no biggie for me but I do send a lot of messages to friends so I like voicemessaging as it is faster. I'm far more interested in getting back the ability to play custom soundtracks during games, that is currently one of the most requested features and is sorely missing from the 360 days.....not sure what they were thinking when they left that out, definitely my biggest complaint about the system.
