IGN has a pre-E3 interview (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/704/704750p2.html) with Webzen about the PvP and PvE aspects of the latter's (soccer inspired?) MMOFPS, Huxley. Excerpt:

Huxley's Persistent World, a space where players can grow and live, can support up to 5,000 players per server. PvP battle fields are separated from Persistent World areas such as villages, and the scale ranges from the usual 4 vs. 4 battles to massive 100 vs. 100 battles.

The maximum number was not fixed at 200 for technical restrictions. After a variety of settings and testing to figure out which scale could maximize enjoyment while ensuring effective control of characters, we reached the conclusion that 100vs100 was the most ideal. This is, of course, bigger than the scale of current FPS games like Battlefield 2, which are 32 vs. 32 battles.

Asked if Xbox 360 and PC gamers will be able to play against eachother, as has been previously reported, Webzen said only that the interaction will go "beyond mere connection." Not sure what that means, but 100 Xbox 360 fanboys rallying to battle 100 PC diehards would make for a brave new world indeed.

Save for planetside, even on a PC it has been tough to really go over 64 players smoothly. Is this going to have dedicated servers and/or a monthly fee to support this?

Oh, and before Planetside was ruined by SOE, it was one of the best gaming experiences everfor myself (for about 6 months). Wonder if any game will ever bring that back...

i dont see the 360 version doing 100 versus 100

its just not probable, especially running UE3

R-Dot-Yung

I wouldn't hold my breath for the 60 player resistance either because when you hit those huge numbers, RAM becomes an issue unless they really dumb down the "hit boxes". Oh and both systems will have this issue when they approach these huge numbers. Only by making it like Planetside with basically one large hit box with no specific damage do I see it possible.

Course creative RAM management could prove me wrong...but that will be a startling change from the norm.

its a cross-platform mmo.....so yeah it does....its like age of conan will be too. Tho it will indetical to the pc verison, cross-platform play is still being decided for the 360 to pc servers. That is for age of conan, Huxley on the other hand sports the 360 users being able to use mouse and key board as well as the game pad and haev cross-platform play. Their will be 360 only dedicated BG tho. BG=battle grounds for pvp, but questing and everything is all cross-platform.

There isnt a way to play 100vs100 on a console (for now) that "lags" to death by drop frames in games as PRO08 and even Assassins creed ( when you climb up a big tower and camera do a circle). Imagine 100vs100 with that engine. FPS = 10?? or 20 at best?

Dunno really

It is simple if they construct it around the Planetside "hit box" model. Planetside I believe only had 256 mb RAM requirement back in the day and was having over 1000 people in some battles that would commonly crash the server after a few hours, but was still great fun til that moment! All they did was make every player just one big hit box so nothing super special in the combat dept. Still a blast though when you have huge battles that are truly open.

i guess....but still :P its happening, the beta has been going on for koreans for what half a year now? Some of the beta palyers are even on twee 60's! which i would believe those are prolly picked dev realted beta testers....lol but it is happening, and since its on the 360 and is an mmo its gonna work, or the project will be droped, for mmos require lots of money to start up and make lots of money following years, if the game is good, webzen can't manage to realease flop or they are gone as a company, zip, zappo, of the face of the buisness world.

yeah very true, that was fun back then...but idk how they are doing it, but they are doing, mabe they are doing it the same way...but the odd thing is the pc verison require 1 gig of ram eh? so idk, mabe something is happening the hdd cache, huxley requires one to install, so mabe it does that...idk, but its happening so it yeah 100 vs 100.

Not trying to be overly negative but I think this game is destined for failure. 100 v 100 fights would probably have you dying every 2 seconds and the game's speed is too fast for a controller. Huxley was a neat idea 3 years ago when I first heard about it but there's just too many hurdles for a game like this to overcome.

yeah...btw its 50 dollars a year for xbl, and you don't pay 15 dollars on top of that, u can have a silver account like with ff11 dur. heck u play wow and u have xbl you already doing that, so what? mmos with servers costs durrrr...unless u want a a guildwars, but thats not what this is. Its not a insatnce based game. heck do u buy doritos and pop at lunch, what thats 7 bucks? don't do that for 3 days and u can afford huxleys montly few like with any mmo. If u want xbl, heck don't lose 25c a day by dropping it on the ground, and u payed for xbl for a year plus extra change....argh...ppl think 50 bucks a year is alot? come on that like 12 cents a day.....pfft, well worth the service and if u want to pay for an mmo on top that, easy to budget.

Hey,wake up ppl.

We talking about a very heavy engine here. We are not talking about WOW engine or anything else. Do you know how much RAM is needed for 200 models of that quality plus environments shooting and all ?

Yes i agree (im not into it though) that maybe there is beta. But for PC. Not 360. If they optimize the game with lower graphic quality than a PowerPC can handle then maybe got a chance. But stills i cant think any console that lags on PRO08 and assassins creed (and other games too that obviously dont know) from drop frame rate to handle UT3 engine 200 models plus all other details... Its like QQ.. Only if its optimized

Yeah well worth the service of Xbox Live crashing down recently. Don't get me wrong I don't know cause I don't have an Xbox 360 (Red Ring thank you Microsoft on the support). But I won't pay "50.00" dollars on TOP of 14 doallrs a month, no that aint gonna happin.

Listen when Microsoft fixes their ISSUES then I will buy it ... again, but until that time comes I am completely satisfied with the systems I have right now. Besides I have a really good PC so I don't need to pay for XBL.

Exactley another issue, Epic was barely able to fit 8 charecter models into the Overhyped graphics of Gears, and when asked if they could of done better than on the graphics Epic simply stated "No".

You do not need a Gold subscription for an MMO.

okay, okay, but yeah that love outage last week sucked, but heck it was only a week, i've experinced worse with my own comp and psn, with my nets, net doesn't like psn very much :/ idk why, i can only host 2vs2 game in war hawl for some reason, whats with that?

but yeah....

[QUOTE="AzatiS"]

Delsage

Exactley another issue, Epic was barely able to fit 8 charecter models into the Overhyped graphics of Gears, and when asked if they could of done better than on the graphics Epic simply stated "No".

yeah idk man, visuall huxley isn't up to gears, but it does the special effects, and i'm expecting alot of repeated texutures with little effects on the them to make them look diffrent. Idk how it works...but its working on the 360...prolly tho cause its a very big map that has 100 vs 100; 200 ppl on it at once.

i dont see the 360 version doing 100 versus 100

its just not probable, especially running UE3

Deihmos

I wouldn't hold my breath for the 60 player resistance either because when you hit those huge numbers, RAM becomes an issue unless they really dumb down the "hit boxes". Oh and both systems will have this issue when they approach these huge numbers. Only by making it like Planetside with basically one large hit box with no specific damage do I see it possible.

Course creative RAM management could prove me wrong...but that will be a startling change from the norm.

Atleast Resistance has dedicated servers...as im sure R2 also will....same cant be said for Huxley yet

but its a mmo so it has to have servers durrr. like WoW's battlegrounds being on servers, Heck Wow's pve instances are still on the servers, they just leave u and your party by yourself tho.

Huxley has a monthly fee so yeah it'll have servers.... don't know who the hell will buy this game on the 360 and pay whatever the fee I think $14 or even if $10 plus the XBL fee? I was gonna look into the game till I heard about the fee and it's bye bye for me

You do not need a Gold subscription for an MMO.

correcto, heck do u need to pay for City of heroes ontop of WoW, when u just want to play WoW? same thing here.

Aside from all the complications and doubts of whether its even possible technically on the 360, has anyone seen the gameplay footage taken from the PC beta? It is a insanely fast paced game. If PC and 360 users are supposedly going to battle off against eachother, prepare for a lot of 360 users to become frustrated. This is a game which relys heavliy on speed, and in that department the controller simply can't compare to keyboard and mouse.

I was excited for this game for my 360 until I saw the monthly fee, and how fast the gameplay was. I'm not into those crazy fast paced FPS.

yeah...btw its 50 dollars a year for xbl, and you don't pay 15 dollars on top of that, u can have a silver account like with ff11 dur. heck u play wow and u have xbl you already doing that, so what? mmos with servers costs durrrr...unless u want a a guildwars, but thats not what this is.

I saw a Huxley gameplay vid a while back, and I wasn't impressed. Looked like a knock off UT3 mod.

I doubt 100 VS 100 will be done on 360. Hope this turns out good.

I wouldn't doubt the 100 vs 100 online battle because this is a MMO here not a shooter like Resistance 2 with a doubtful 60 players online.

Huxley is going to be a waste of a game. Essentially, mix Battlefield 2142's squads, Call of Duty 4's leveling system, and Tabula Rasa's monthly fees, and you have the game. We'll be comparing Battlefield 3 ($50, 80 players, free online) against Huxley ($60, 200 players, $15 a month) and having to honestly ask - "does double the number of people per round honestly greatly improve gameplay?".

Fast forward into late 2008, when tons of "massive battle" games akin to BF3, Resistance 2, et cetera drop, and will it really be worth spending $60 + $15/month for this limited MMOFPS? I don't know, but personally I doubt it.

-

Essentially what you seem to get is a city-hub (for trading or talking) connected to instanced levels. Essentially a bit like Phantasy Star Online, sans the character development and items. Of course the levels aren't exporatory, they're battlefields, so it's BF2142 with a PSO-style hub and CoD4 leveling. Given the number of people on the 360 who aren't going to want to pay yet another online fee (you're already paying for LIVE, why pay more?) and the number of PC gamers who will avoid this in favor of games like BF3 with long-standing communities...

Huxley's a neat idea if it didn't have the monthly fee, as is... I just can't see it offering enough MMO or community to justify charging.

That article didn't confirm the 360 version would have 100 vs 100 battles.

Indeed, beat me to it.

Its simply impossible looking at the hardware limitations.

Even UT3 on consoles is limited to 24 players.

Also the different engines.

The resistance engine seems far less system intesive nor anywhere as technically superiour as the UT3 engine.

(looks at UT3 on PS3 and 360)

Example of player limit on the UE3 engine (24) - done by Epic none the less

its a cross-platform mmo.....so yeah it does....its like age of conan will be too.

LibertySaint

Uh, just becuase it is multiplat doesent mean teh 360 version will be the same.

You obviusly arent aware of how limited the 360s hardware is.

And dedicated servers arent a magical cure - they will simply improve server load, not improve hardware performance.

UT3 on 360 only supports 24 player online and off (unlike 32 on PC) .

And it is made by freaking EPIC.

Its so damn obvius that this isnt going to happen on 360.

Besides the game plays like Quake 1, so it would be impossible on a pad anyway.

exactly.. I sit on the lovesac in front of large lcd.. covered in a blanket with the controller underneath.. how does a keyboard work under a blanket? I refuse to sit at a desk and develope back problems.
