shit is ridiculous, devs are releasing unfinished games just because they can patch in the fixes later whereas in the ps2 days the quality control on releases was higher. yes there were glitches but nothing like games today, take rehash creed for example, game fukin dips to 20fps. bf4 #enough said

im playing halo collection right now and ce has so many bugs (music is all messed, achievements not unlocking, cant start playing from saved checkpoints etc.) shit is a fukin mess.

so is it my imagination or have game releases in the modern age completely gone to shit

Pretty sure the games were as terrible, you didn't have DF to tell you about the game's performance.

i dont need df to tell me about bf4 problems or ass creed or halo collection they are very obvious. old games never had this many game breaking bugs from what i can remember

It is just how things should be. People buying all this other stuff will only make it get worse. Back in the day if a game sucked a game sucked. Fanboys didn't defend a bad game because it was exclusive. It is almost as if a bad game doesn't exist anymore because we live in the age of "everybody has an opinion." The greatest example of this is Skyrim on consoles. This game released damn near broken and recieved almost perfect scores.

Or how about Driveclub--it has solid gameplay. In ways it has gameplay in a racer that has been lacking from the genre, and yet the consumer is told it will have this and that but does not release as such and these buyers are left sitting on a promise? That's bullshit yet people support it.

problem is most reviewers dont discuss these issues so there is no way of knowing until u play the game or hear the outcry a few days after release. i bought xbox around a month ago and halo was bundled with that, i dont even care right now about multiplayer i just want to play campaign but it has many little bugs that are annoying so im just waiting till the weekend update. the original halo never had these bugs from what i can remember

actually it is, i cant pick up from where i finished playing last night. 343 will issue a fix this weekend

this is probably the first truly convincing reason in years to buy a nintendo.

Although the issues might be so rampant because the consoles are new and devs are rushing development to take advantage on the lack of competition.

DF make analysis on performance but they never tell you about the bugs. Like for example, in their face-off of AssCreed U they never mention the aggressive pop-ins or NPC's acting crazy and breaking missions. They never mentioned that AssCreed U frame-rate on PS4 goes even lower than 20 frames at times. They never mentioned the gazillion of bugs on The Last of Us. In fact, not a single reviewer mention them even though they were so apparent from the beginning of the game until the very end.

Its not like they're getting away with it though. Just look at the backlash games like BF4 got; even EA have acknowledged it damaged the brand.

If Nintendo had 3rd party support, they would also have more broken games. For example if Battlefield 4 had come to Wii-U, it would have been fC$ked like *all* the other versions at launch. The only difference is the hypothetical Wii-U version would probably never be fixed.

Basically I don't think this is much reason to praise Nintendo, other than the fact that their 1st party is usually pretty well polished, yet they don't do alot of online play so that makes it easier for them to have less issues.

Granted now to a degree games get "tested" by the first users but back in the day plenty of games had glitches and you sucked it up and soldiered on. People didn't expect every tiny thing to be perfect and when there were glitches, esp gaming breaking ones, you were pretty much ****ed. Especially on consoles, games had much less scope and complexity and so were much easier to check. So Nintendo.

@RedentSC: What does steam early access have to do with this thread?

The thread is about devs releasing broken games and it being a buggy nightmare until patches are deployed after official launch. These aren't your average dev but the usual big named people. Steam early access clearly tells you the game is broken and buy at your own risk.

It's getting a bit out of control really. but were the problem we allow this to happen we buy into these games and just go o well it will be patched soon enough, we all love to moan but we've created this patch madness.

like people saying about AC Unity going o the frame rate dips in places but o well, it's like were into next gen a solid 30fps or higher should be standard, it should be at a steady frame rate and yet these games are getting pushed out so quickly that there getting lazy at quality control and the attitude now is, will patch it later, the problem with patching it later is the fact most people who buy day one play the game with all it's bugs and then move on, a patch is to late for most people. it shouldn't be the norm and yet it is.

Yeah that is true, games is more complex today and we even had game breaking glitches back in the day in some games but it was not close to how it is today.

But as a consumer and gamer is it really worth it, i mean get such complex games that they turn out unplayable?

Love it when people call ou to "the old days" when production is so much more complicated and fragile than ever before. You can't expect the same consistency. We have MORE quality control than ever, but the games keep getting more complex.

i kind of see it differently. I think the devs actually bring you a finished product. I remembered encountering a bunch of games that needed to be polished or or fixed but since you couldnt patch console games, you are stuck with it.

perfect example is kotor 2 on xbox

Agreed. The fact that developers like Ubisoft can

  1. Hype up their game through gameplay footage that looks better than the finished product
  2. Promise the PC version is going to take advantage of PC features through some bullshit partnership with nVidia and bogus "graphical features" trailer
  3. Delay the review embargo until late into the release day, despite giving reviewers copies of the games far in advance of the release date
  4. And, finally, ship a broken product that's buggier than a Bethesda game on PS3

is very upsetting.

I only buy games on launch anymore when I really, absolutely need to have them day one.

For all the other games ? What's the point anymore. You get a broken product and you pay more than those who wait.

In fact games day one should cost less (people are alpha/beta testing for you for free anyway) and then prices should go up.

I think the whole package feels a little rushed for the holiday release. Halo 3 runs at a nice consistent 1080p and 60 fps, but the other games do not perform as well. The huge bummer is definitely the matchmaking, I only managed to get into one game yesterday after an hour of searching. I think it's still an awesome package, but I can't help but feel it could be much better if it had an extra month or two of development time.

matchmaking i expect to be broken at launch anyway just like every other game but the worst part for me is the campaign. the cutscenes for ce all stutter, i dont know if its because they are 30fps and rest of the game is 60fps or if its a bug. also when playing with updated graphics the framerate feels funny, hard for me to explain but it just doesnt feel smooth. and the sound cuts off and ai sometime goes all tlou mode. i agree, 2 more months and this would have been polished

True, what's the bad thing about waiting to buy a game for years anyway ? Can't think of much except graphics aging.

The only thing that makes us want to buy games day one anyway is hype. And in the case of AC: Unity it's clear that hype is meant as a cover to hide how crappy the game really runs...

It is ridiculous, I agree. The problem is made even worse by the fact that people keep buying games on day 1 like a bunch of mind-controlled slaves, even when there's a chance they won't be able to play it. The devs see no reason to delay the release.

Very sensible post and i completely agree, games used to work at least 99.9% out of the box back in the good old days, the ability to patch games online has made Developers a little bit Lazy when it comes to Fully testing there products.

They get gamers to do it for them these days.

Feel really lucky to be one of the few not experiencing any issues with MCC. The only glitch I have seen thus far was a 2 second audio glitch that occurred whilst I was walking through the covenant ship.

Having an amazing time with the multiplayer though im getting my ass handed to me while I get back into the swing of things.
