[QUOTE="IronBass"][QUOTE="Game-fu"]I disagree. I don't hold a game to lower standards just because its a downloadable title. Besides, what about downloading a game makes it inherently inferior to one that comes on a disc? Steam says hello by the way. So does Torchlight and Diablo 2 and just about every other 'loot game' on the market that is longer and has much more replay value than DeathSpank.Game-fu

$15 games are not meant to be as long as full retail games.

I paid $5 for Torchlight.

During a sale.

And? I'm not discussing the value of single game A vs single game B, just a general condition.

[QUOTE="Game-fu"]

[QUOTE="IronBass"] :question: DeathSpank is aroung 7-8 hours long (finishing every side mission, which is what you're supposed to do in this kind of loot-games), which is damn good for a DL game.toast_burner

Well Limbo is only 3 hours long and Castle crashers is around the same lengh as Deathspank

But Castle Crashers had a TON of replay value. It also lasted me a while because I refused to play it solo, I needed to have my Castle Crashers group online.

And? If you want to go tit-for-tat, the full retail price is only $5 more than DeathSpank and its roughly 3x the length and has far more replay value.

And i'm saying your 'general condition' is wrong; 7-8 hours for a 'loot game' as you call it is not pretty good. Especially when there is absolutely no replay value.

7-8 hours for a $15 game is perfectly reasonable. Most games this gen are 10 hours long for a $60 price tag.

[QUOTE="Ravensmash"]Game informer gave it 9 btw.LegatoSkyheart

Game Informer is Xbox Biased. :P

Be safer to say HD bias in general. Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 are able to squeeze in a 10 but not a game like SMG1. While a 9.75 is "splitting hairs", it's still an eyebrow raiser imo

I would say its anything but 'perfectly reasonable' when there are similar games with more content and overall value. Games like Castle Crashers and Shadow Complex are far more generous at the same price-point. I was never saying that DeathSpank isn't a good game; its on the merits of entertainment and quality that DeathSpank isworth $15. However, quantity is not DeathSpank's strongest attribute nor would i label it as a selling-point.

There aren't many XBLA games longer than DeathSpank. In fact, there are very few.

So it's $10 for a 3 hour game? I think that's fair. Movie tickets are $10 where I am and they're shorter.

Still don't know if I want to buy it. I like the style and atmosphere but that's not enough if the game is no fun. I'll try the demo first.

Actually, there are many. You just need to realize that games don't necessarily have to end when the single-player campaign is over.

I'm pretty sure thats exactly what replayability means. Just because you adhere to your own personal definition of the word doesn't mean the rest of us have to ignore the correct one.

If I swim a 25m pool three times it does not mean the pool is 75m long.

I think my example showed perfectly the difference between the lengh and replaybility. Yours didn't do much. By your logic, games are infinitely long, since you can replay them an infinitely numbers of times. Replayability and game lenght have always been two different things.

If it takes 1 minute to swim one lap and you swim around 3 times, how long were you swimming for?

Heres a hint: Its not 1 minute

but you go swimming because you enjoy swimming, not because you want to see how big the pool is.

Actually, there is a pretty significant difference between temporal and spacial duration. Except you obviously don't realize the difference which is what i was pointing out. The size of a pool is hardly relevant to how many times you can use it and/or derive enjoyment from it. You fail to see the most basic fundamental flaw of your argument which is hinging the entire length of a game upon one aspect of it.

My example was not meant to be taken literally. It was meant to show how replaying games does not make them longer. ME2's campaign is around 25 hours long. I've played it three times. Does it mean ME2 is 75 hours long? No.

His original argument was that replayability = length.
