The chip will be manufactured by TSMC, not AMD's regular foundry partner Globalfoundaries. John Sell, the Xbox One's chip architect, said that the chance of defects was high because the chip was so complex, but Microsoft had designed in redundancies into the chip so that if one section was inoperable, it doesnt kill the whole chip and we don't have a return of the dreaded Red Ring of Death.
Still, it won't be easy for TSMC to crank out millions of these chips, and it has a similarly complex chip to make for Sony's PlayStation 4. The one good thing TSMC has going for it is it routinely makes chips this size for Nvidia, so it's worked out some of the bugs. But boy is that company going to be busy. TSMC makes the GPUs for Nvidia and AMD and is picking up Apple's business, plus these two consoles. That is going to be one seriously overloaded company. I'm not predicting a shortage of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles this fall, but it wouldn't surprise me, either.
That bit is especially interesting. Tiawanese sweat shops working overtime to pump out all those chips!

Not aiming this at the PS4, but in a way I think i'd rather have a balance shift edging towards cpu rather than gpu.
If you have a decent gpu and lower performance cpu you end up with something like the original Xbox or the Wii U. I don't just want games to look great, but I want them to have those awesome physics and smart ai, because that's where gameplay comes from and that's why I game.
Wow, just wow.[QUOTE="delta3074"][QUOTE="Davekeeh"]

:lol:Elegant use of a gif. I applaud you.
The one is like a fat kid who gets picked on all the time in school. The PS4 is like an all-star football player who's getting a free ride at a Ivy League school on a football scholarship. Yeah, not even comparable. Kjranuoh you mean that dumb ass that won't have a career after he finishes. and that "picked on nerd" likely will. cool story.
It should be a rule that we do not even speak of him. lol. Topic. The X1 is a sexy, powerful beast.......... confirmed.inb4 tormentos :P

Â
And there is where the PS4 8 Aces,64 commands, volatile bit and compute customization kick in.
Â
The PS4 can use compute to run physics and several other task done by CPU,in fact Physics on the GPU will run better than on the CPU while helping the CPU to have an esier time, and have more resources abailable.
Also on PS4 you can get the physics inside the frame in time.
Â
Is not been done now because launch games hardly ever go deep into hardware.

I don't think anyone expected Sony would put a weak CPU in.
Although they're putting the option in to offload, I don't think they'll need to use it. Maybe just to add extra effects like PhysX, but they have enough cpu otherwise.

AMD HSA software layer enables physics inside the time frame i.e. not unique for PS4.[QUOTE="Davekeeh"]It depends on the workload type e.g. ray tracing involve with memory write performance.PS4 will slay the beast with relative ease

Hmm, I wonder how Kinect is able to beam form audio and how that will affect the quality of the mic, cause kinect 1 had a craptastic mic that had nothign but room and game echo.

You must non-American or ignorant and maybe both if you don't know what an Ivy League school is.

link please? when did he say this?Â
Â
and okay, ps4 is a beast at synchronous compute compared to Xbox One, ps4 will be much better at compute then the One...Â
Â
the Xbox One will have less then one teraflop of graphics rendering power if it wants to ever try and match ps4 in Compute
