Hey people i am a new poster here at gamespot.

I wonted to talk about the 1080p res that is on the 360. I have a ps3 and a 360, and for some reason when i play games on my 360 in 1080p the games textures are blurry, ala nba street, and virtua tennis 3. and for some reason the games speed slows down a bit. With every game i play on my 360 in 1080p, it appears thatthe screen is just getting streched from a 720p res. upsclose it dosnt even look like the picture gets any better.

But when i play virtua tennis and nba  street on my ps3, the games look crsip, and there is no slow down, and the game actually fits to the screen like it was a 720p game. and the game actually looks beter in 1080p. the only game that dose not look quite so good in 1080p is virtua fighter 4, which dose exactly what the 360 games are doing, looks blurry, and runs a lil slow. the same happened with sonic on ps3.

this is when  i really thought of it, the ps3 is doing games in native 1080p while the 360 is doing games upscaled to 1080p. and games like vf5,and sonic on ps3 are also upscalling while games like vt3, nba street, nba 2k7, gthd, tekken dr, are all natively 1080. this puts me atthe conclusion that the 360 can not do true 1080p, but can blow up the picture to supportthe 1080p screen, but its being upscaled. But it seems like the ps3 was built for 1080p games, and can push that res natively, with no hassel atall.

also ps, did any one notcie while playing vt3 in 480p that the cutscens runs fast, but while playing the game in 720p, or 1080p the cutscens are very slow like there going in slow motion r somthing., this happens on both system.

The 360 is perfectly capable of running 1080p through VGA or HDMI output. It's up to the developerr whether they set the 360 version at a native 720p or 1080p. If they set it at native 720p, then it would appear like you said, stretched or slightly blurry. If they code it natively at 1080p, then there would be no reason for such issues.

and this is what im saying, vt3 was told to be 1080p native on the 360, but when played its being upscaled, because it looks no where near the detail, of the ps3, version. on the ps3 version you can see, fabric, grass, and everything, pores veins. but on the 360 the game seems so dark that you cant see any details, and every thing looks blurry, 360 games actually look worse in 1080p, they aslo in mostcases run slower. why is it that vt3 runs native 1080p on ps3, and is being upscaled on 360?

All of my 360 games look better when i play it at 1080p, i notice no blury textures or slower framerates. but i have yet to play VT3 on my 360 and PS3 so i cant make a direct comparison, and the only games i have played on my PS3 besides demos are RFOM and Flow, i still have to get my hands on Motorstorm

Oho you are so lucky. That was the FIRST and ONLY game made thats a native 1080p game and it was only just recently made. lol. Okay, you got me on a technicality, but that's it. Theres no other native 1080p game out and that's because 720p is the standard that hd games use for now and at least for a while. I was only making a point to this TC trying to claim that ps3 games looked better than 360 games because they could magically do 1080p natively while 360 couldn't. They don't even make games in 1080p! (well except for that vt3 game and I think like one other game, but that's it).

But anyway, what it comes down to is getting the most performance from the game. You can get more performance when you make it in 720p without having it look worse really. It's all about how good the developer is and how much money they have. You can have a game that looks like crap in 1080p and you can have a game that looks amazing in 720p. Again, it's all about the developer. In the end it just might be better to use 720p because there are a lot more people with 720p TVs then 1080p.

Yes 360 upscales, ive said this all ALONG...mrboo15

Wrong. The 360 does NOT upscale NBA street or Virtua Tennis 3 and from what I've heard (you know, from professional reviewers), the 360 runs both games smoother than the PS3.

Sorry dude, but I'd trust the word of several professional reviewers over the word of some random forumgoer. The professionals have considerable credibility when it comes to matters such as these. You, on the other hand, do not.

virtua tennis is one. there will be others... not that i care. i think the game developers should stick with 720P this gen. Try to keep yourself informed and try not to be a fanboy just because you identify yourself with a product you bought..

Do you have a HDTV that accepts 1080p via component?  Not many do....Or are you using VGA?

BTW,  a 720p image being upscaled to 1080p does not give a performance hit,  the performance hit would come going from 720p native to 1080p native.

yes, you can have1080P without HDMI. HDMI is just hyped now and is the format of the future.

it appears you two cant read what i said. I never said you cant have 1080p, but you cant have TRUE NATIVE RESOLUTION OF 1080p without HDMI.

Why you think MS is releasing x360 elite with hdmi? just to piss you off more?

Yes you can. you are wrong sorry.. They have a HDMI version simply for the fact that more and more screens are using HDMI as a input....
HDMI has some other advantages (everything through 1 cable, digital, possibility of losless audio) that makes it the cable that will rule the future devices

MultiplateOwner

I love how you try and come off as being unbiased, but so far you have only posted in threads that have bashed the 360, including creating this one.

Very convincing.

Why don't you treat yourself to a good AAA Ps3 exclusive game while you are at the store?  Why not?  You deserve it.

Dude...you have no idea what your talking about,  so long as the HDTV can do 1080p via component,  then the game will play in 1080p via component.  Alot of new HDTV's can do 1080p via component,  but not many people have brand spankin new HDTV's.

You see this Samsung 1080p does not accept 1080p via component.

But this Samsung 1080p HDTV does accept 1080p via component.

what are you trying to say?...

what im trying to say? ill tell you what im trying to say. You can have a Tennis game on x360 at 1080p or any small type of game like that but you will never have a real big game at 1080p cuz you got a ten year old dvd format inside ur x360. Like what TC has said, even the tennis game looks bad still without the hdmi.

 accept the facts...

You don't know what you are talking about. You can reach 1080p without HDMI. The reason why HDMI is becoming so popular is because it's digital. You can reach 1080p resolution with analog connections. PC's have been doing it for years. In fact they can go even higher than 1080p.

It's amazing how people talk about 1080p so much and absolutely have no idea what it actually is. It's just a resolution. It's not even the most important factor in having a good picture on your TV.

The PS3 was designed for 1080p HDMI. The 360 wasn't and was an afterthought. The new Elite will be able to do it. That's why they're making it.

why do some of you think HDMI is the best way to go?

a) it's been proven through and through that VGA/DVI can produce better images.

b) in some situations and with the right cables you can get a better image with component.

c) HDMI is built for content protection and will eventually screw you down the road if you ever try to watch a burned / archived disc.

lots of misinformation on these boards, and misconceptions.
