Wow, so I just read the news that PS3 titles will retail for £39.99, which is $78.00 USD in EU. Xbox 360 and Wii titles are listed at £49.99 which is $97.00 USD, and then add in the tax. So a game on those two systems are breaking tripple digits. :o What the heck? I had no idea EU members... I feel for ya. With that in mind, if games cost $100 here in America... would you still buy the games? Would you be a gamer? Or would you jump ship and stick with the old school games?

If game costed $100 in the US then I would probably buy one or two games a year which would be horribly painful. Alot of gamers just wouldn't stand for this though and just boycott videogames.

In England, for instance, the minimum wage is £5.05, or $9.9137. The federal minimum wage in America is $5.15 an hour, or £2.6234, where it's been since 1997. It's not that they're "more expensive" in Europe - they just make "more" money than we do.

Wii games are €50 here. Xbox 360 games are €60. That's similar to the US prices in dollars.

iknow it seems more expensive and all but dont people in the uk get paid more as well? and when u take things into proportion it doesnt really make a difference does it?

5 pounds an hour for a minium wage job to buy a 39.99 pound game
is better then 5 usd an hour to buy a 59.99 usd game isnt it?

the same goes for the systems... when u compare the hours worked for the game people in europe work less hours for the same game/system it only seems more expensive when converted to american dollars

boycott? no people would just turn to piracy, which is why PC games never sale for more than 49.99, devs fear a price increase will also increase piracy.

Once again, those prices in that article are for SOny first party games, not third party. Meaning that third party games are still gonna be 50 quid and 60 euros.

I don't understand why you didn't include tax on the PS3 figure but still, all games around here retail at £39.99 unless the store offers trade credit.

Well, it's pretty obvious that tax will be included on the PS3 games as well, however with tax it wont reach $100. I stated the obvious tax inclusion on the Xbox 360 and Wii games because there are fanboys out there that would be like... "Buh..buh... teh $97 isn't $100!!!" I didn't want to deal with that so I stated it.

Xbox 360 and wii games may be listed at £49.99 but before they go on sale the prices cut by £10 usually. Take crackdown as one of many examples it came out on the 24th at £39.99 (thats inc. tax) in all shops i've been to and checked online. This also goes for preorders. If you want to preorder GRAW2 its usally £39.99, £10 off the ARP.
This is the same for Wii games which are also discounted.
This is not true all the time as some AAA+ games retail at £49.99 for a short while, it depends where you buy your games offline/online.
Looking at the PS3 the majority of games are being retailed at £49.99 with only a handful  at £39.99. Though this changes with some online stores which offer most of the PS3 games at £39.99.
This is my perceptive of the EU market in the UK and prices may be different in other parts of the EU.
