Xbox 360 cost ms 3.17 BILLION in Lost revenue just on broken consoles ???

The original xbox lost ms almost 5 billion and now the 360 in just 2 years has lost 3.17 Billion how long can even ms continue to absorb these kinds of losses ??

My PS2 is still functioning well today with a bit of slowdown because I played it to death.

They already said they would before. They have a number of reasons for being in the console race. The investments and losses they take now will be nothing compared to the possibilities they can achieve in the future. They use the Xbox for a number of things, and later down the road could even use the system for testing new formats or ideas. They are doing more than making a gaming console for now. Whether their plans will come to pass, who knows.

ROFl, Sony lost no where near 1billion with the PS2, infact, they might have gained some. Sony is doing quite well with the PS3...they still haven't seen profit but they aren't losing as much as microsoft, maybe if you consider the companys' revenues they might be equal at this point.

Ms is over 8 BILLIONthe holeand 360 sales have come to a stand still even the ps3 is out selling them now. I know that ms has alot of money but they also have share holders that will put a end to the xbox brand even if ms does not want to if they don't see a profit in 2008 I think.

Guys, Im gonna give you a prediction.

The year is 2010. MS scraped its Xbox 720 console and instead decide to team up with Nvidia to create a low cost graphics utility for the PC. It will be a PC add-on configuration with a PCI-E graphics processor unit attached to a 3.5 inch front case display. The display will also contain a port to swap 2.5 inch laptop hard drives, if so wanted. This entire set up will cost less than half of what the Xbox 360 costed to manufacture, and will have fewer hardware issues, as it uses the players PC as support.

Considering that GPU's are becoming ever increasingly generalized in their function, its not far fetched to make a PC "console" instead of a stand alone. By 2010, expect multi-core GPU's capable of doing very large amounts of streaming data instructions. In fact, if MS doesnt do this, I would be surprised. It would match up perfectly with Vista Home Premium and Ultimate.

MS will have no problem absorbing these losses. their games division took a $1.89 billion loss this year, yet the company as a whole turned up an INCREASE in profits over last year!!!!

As long as they keep making money like that, they shouldn't have a problem pumping money into their games division. After all, that's how MS beat Netscape in the browser wars. They absorbed losses from selling Internet Explorer for free in order to grab market share.

MS as a whole is in such a strong financial position that they can absorb losses in one of their divisions for many years with no problem in order to grab market dominance

The 360 hardware has been making a profit for awhile now. Where have you been? The XBox 360 Gaming division is in the red, but 360 hardware and software is slowly pulling the division out of the red. The 3 year warranty cost hurts, but M$ gaming division will be profitting next year nontheless.

The PS3 is still losing almost $200 for every console sold. Sony had to bget a700 million loan to keep them out of the red last year at this time.

They have only been since the PS3 release, the PS2 eventually made profit for SONY, the Xbox 1 lost Microsoft billions, and while the 360 was on track it recently again. Will the 360 eventually? Let's just wait and see as it's sales have dropped from what I've heard from sources.

It's from their software division. As a whole M$ is making way more then they are losing in their gaming division. Sony isn't making as much as M$ in profit as a whole. The XBox isn't going anywhere. If it starts becoming profitable next year as Bach has predicted, the XBox 360 will be around for a long, long time. You people try to exaggerate a little bad news into "M$ needs to pull the XBox 360." lmao!! Sounds like the cows are scared. All I've seen are these dumb threads from cow on the forums the last few days. Even with Sony's great lineup of games this fall, they still have the most expensive game console on the market this holiday. Sony's consoles have all lost money at the start and always made them a huge return but the xbox has yet to turn a profit for even one quarter. I don't have a crystal ball but I don't see the 360 at the current pace making a profit in 2007 or 2008 unless 360 sales triple their current level imo. Japan is dead, europe is not much better only america is still moving units. I am sure halo 3 will move some units but no where near enough to even put a dent in all that red ink.

By years end the 360 will be lucky to ship 15 million units.It also disturbs me the Peter Moore bails just before all the bad news didn't he do the same thing with the dreamcast ??
