It really shows that the origanal console was insanely rushed and faulty if they can improve it that much.nickmag
Agreed.

Agreed.
And a year from now they could improve it even more if they want to. That's what happens in technology all the time - improvements are always made.
We'll see how it is when it's been out for a while. Remember the disc scratching 360s? Most of those were not launch units and thus shouldn't have been there in the first place. I'll wait and see just how good this new one is before I can trust this shoddy console.Zhengi

What does this have to do with my comment? I don't have a PS3. If the PS3 is causing problems as well, then Sony needs to fix them too. It would really be bad though if the PS3 faces a similar situation as the 360, especially with its $600 price tag.[QUOTE="Zhengi"]We'll see how it is when it's been out for a while. Sorry, HD. The Xbox 360 is the console with the high defect rate... the one with the loud fan, the overheating, and the 3 red lights of death.
The PS3 actually turned out to be a high-quality product, despite all the claims you made otherwise.

the point is it's silly calling a unit "shoddy" when other consoles have problems as well.
it's weird..you sure defend the ps3 a lot for not having one....
odd...

not according to many ps3 owners who are experiencing overheaqting and loud whining coming from the ps3...;)
ps... 5% is not high defective rate for new consumer electronics...
it makes you wonder tho; with the 360 only at 5%, while sony was sued successfully for shoddy hardware, it seems to me the ps2 is the one to watch since sony has a HISTORY of shoddy hardware...;)
ps...i didn't make the claims... the ps3 owners did... ;)
edit: im out for the weekend... enjoy..
btw; do a google for HD DVD and Europe... see what you find...:D
have a great weekend!
Nice preview. Hmm how quiet is the thing though?Oemenia
seems like they UPDATED THE NOISY DRIVES AS WELL :) THANKS MICROSFT

A 5% defect rate is HUGE for the first year, HD... especially compared the the smooth launch of the PS3.
And thanks for bringing up the PS2, but we're talking about the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Try to stay on topic, Ok?

Just like how every launch PSone had to fail because of a barely functional drive? don't listen to tango... he's the biggest XBOT alive. tango just can't accept the fact that the XBOX360 has the worst failure rate in the current gen systems, and since the hardware is practically the same in the Elite, I wouldn't blame anyone for being skeptical.
"One a side note, we all had a good belly laugh here at the shop when we saw Microsoft's most creative measures to minimize the dreaded Xbox 360 3 flashing red lights "ring of death" error caused by poor BGA connections of the CPU and GPU. It seems that that the good ol' a dab will do ya methodology applies here. Take a look at the epoxy surrounding the CPU and GPU which is intended to prevent the BGA connection from popping as the board warps. This has to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Will it do the job, I have my doubts, but it will remain to be seen. It certainly seems like taking the easy way out instead of fixing the real problem."
Doesn't sound too great to me, though I'll still get the elite, but this will definitely make me wait and see what happens...

5% of 10,000,000 units is 500,000 defective units.
That's a lot of bad units.

yep.
It's almost identical to the old 360...
I don't know how this llama site could even count a 65nm CPU as a possibility, its clear as day in their picture that the die size is the same.

Not really, a single capacitor out of place can make a huge difference. And it seems like they rearranged some of the capacitors...

The thing is the DSL was cheaper then the launch price DSH when it came out. The Elite is $80 more the the Premium. Thats something to complain about.[QUOTE="Teufelhuhn"]It's almost identical to the old 360...

smaller caps + inductors AND less mosfets. whatever's changed on the motherboard, it requires less power. that's where the 65nm guessing is coming from.[QUOTE="Cazzidy_basic"][QUOTE="tmac2gooden"]To bad your getting milked to buy the same system again, because the first one is red rings of death junk.Cazzidy_basic

If sony is smart and want to blow this elite out of the water, I say they come with a new SKU with a larger hard drive and replace the price of the 60 gb version at $599 and drop the 60gb version price to $499. If sony does this, say goodbye to the elite, because more people would go for the ps3 60gb version since it comes with the complete package for only 20 dollars more.

Anyone who says there wont be any games, is just lying to them selves, because like the ps1 and ps2 at its launches people were saying they both were going to fail with the slow start of no games in its launch, and looked what happened, they both went on to be the best consoles of its times.
