Seeing how this generation is not going to end anytime soon could we see these prices during this generation? Think about it, with natal and arc both companies aim to extend this generation by a few years. In say 2014 could we see prices like this if the generation continues?

I agree. One full year of Xbox Live and the 360 has the same price of the ps3. One wireless router and it will go higher.

1.the ps3 is not the better system subjective opinion.

2.so much for the vaunted INFORMED consumer the informed consumer knows that they don't have to purchase the wireless adaptor, This is something i have to constantly tell cows.

Ethernet...Wireless...Bridge

They can be found for 30 dollars, they work with the 360 they work well. As for that 360 at 99 dollars? if it happend tommorow? the ps3 would HAVE to price drop the 360 would destroy it even more at that price.

P.S: seems most consumers are ignorant as you claim since...the 360 is in 2nd place world wide...

The problem is,

By the time the 2 units get to this type price, we don't know when or what the 2 units will have included/incorportated at that time. What if LIVE is free for play at that time? What if PSN is not? What XBOX has a Blueray player at that time? Is Natal included then? PS3 motion controller? Total games available for each system vs games included on purchase....Who knows.

We don't know what the future will hold.

Question can't be answered.

last time i checked on the XBL resub page it was £39.99 which equates to roughly $50 which is the registered retail and the price found in most shops here and most likely elsewhere....just because 1 place sells it cheaper doesnt instantly mean its $30 or w/e they decide to sell it for.As there are various methods of subscription all costing diffrent amounts.

And imho i still think paying for online is weak from the days i started online it was free and i just feel i could never ever in a billion years justify paying any amount of cash for this when they are free on other platforms..

Still the 360 is the more popular machine this generation and thats mainly due to 2 things MS and their agressive marketing and imo bull timed exclusive nonsense and launching earlier thanboth competitors effectively launching one of the worst in a reliable sense consoles we have seen..

It technically is 49.99 but there are lots of sales on them, I see them all the time. Most I payed for one was $40, which was 2 years ago.

So we could say to the ignorant consumer it is 49.99 but to the smart consumer it is 29.99.:D

Lie and generalization. Numerous gamers I know chose the 360 because they simply wanted a gaming console. Not blu ray player, or web browser, just games.

LOL! So true. Just imagine if Microsoft manages to do that with at least the Arcade model this year. Cows would be going insane.

This generation will be over before the XBox 360 reaches $99. You can expect new XBox and Wii systems by 2012. I don't see Sony dropping the price of the PS3 again until 2011.

The 360 is the poor mans console while the PS3 is more prestigious. This is not as true as it was before since the slim came out but before hand I knew a ton of people who could not afford the PS3 and had to serttle for the 360.

Boxing day, there we're deals everywhere, I bought mine from Wal-Mart for $30. Bestbuy had them for I think 34.99 too around boxing day. I live in Canada, so don't know if you have boxing day or not, but it's basically Canada's Black Friday.

i'd say we could see an Arcade for $99, maybe in late 2010 to try to get people to jump on the Natal train

I'd say by 2011 we'll have a $99-$129 Xbox 360

PS3 however, i see it being at lowest, $249 in 2011

So games play no part in the equation at all? Under $199 I highly doubt price matters that much. You hit a bell curve where the market is saturated and all the consumers that were going to buy it, already have. It's called "the elasticity of demand". At the prices mentioned in this thread, it will come down to game preference as the biggest seller.

XBL costs $30 a year.. For the last time..

Not everyone lives in the states or have access to those prices.

I don't see neither of those consoles dropping to that price until next gen of consoles has arrived. Even with the arcade model for 360 that's half off of what they are selling right now, there's no way either company will do that in a single price drop.

XBL, HDD, and wireless adaptor. You can say you don't NEED them but eventually most owners will want one of those. Not only does M$ cleverly exclude those what would be considered standard features these days, those add-ons are unique and only sold by M$ at ridiculous prices due to compatibility issues.

People here like to say how much "superior" XBL is to PSN with all its extra non-gaming feature (and party chat of course, who can forget with all the constant reminder), but are willing to overlook the standard features that should have been made available out-of-the-box. It's rather ironic.

he's talking overall, and the ps3 or 360 being the better console is subjective anyways. All the facts we know is that the 360 does have a larger amounts of A, AA, and AAA games going by GS alone, while the ps3 is more reliable, but whatever console is the better value is totally subjective

Im very well informed on both systems and I could say the same thing, the ignorant consumer thinks the extra $50 is worth it for the PS3 when in reality every multiplat game he plays, his experience will be inferior to mine. Every online session he joins, his experience will be inferior to mine. Every 5 minutes I spend downloading something, he'll spend 7 or 8 for the identical piece of content. Blu-rays a nice feature, but I bought a blu-ray player for that. I bought my 360 to get the best gaming experience and have.

Wouldn't an informed consumer look for the console with the games that interest him/her more?

If someone's only looking at the price tag and not the main function of a VIDEO GAME console, I say that's pretty ignorant.

Fact=PS3 is not the the better console, maybe in your opinion but not mine.

Fact=360 sales are second worldwide...

RAGINGxPONY

The 360 proves that the PS3 is better. Which example do you want, price, reliability, technology?

needing to insult those that don't see it your way........baby talk. Sometimes the $99 wins because some just want a game console.

and the ps3 isn't?:|

Of course it is. But generalizing that anyone who takes a $99 360 over a $149 PS3 is ignorant is fanboy baby talk. Maybe some actually look at the consoles and as a few I know did, say I have a blu ray player and a computer, why do I have to pay for these in my gaming console? So they got a 360. Now where are these people ignorant?

It could be said that only an ignorant consumer would spend $599 for a system with virtually no games, and a yet proven high def video disc system, but people did. Were the original PS3 fanboys ignorant?

I know PS3 fanboys try to act superior, but to a lot of people an Arcade Xbox 360 is all they need. Not everyone needs wireless internet connectivity, I know it's hard to believe but a lot of people still connect with hard wire.

Not everyone is going to download tons of games, or DLC.

A lot of people don't want to play multi-player online. For those people the Arcade is just fine, and they don't need Live Gold, Silver is fine, and it's free. Something I think PS3 fanboys forget.

Those consumers are not ignorant, they just don't need all the features that come on the Elite or PS3.

I Xbox 360s were $99. I'd buy one in an instant.

but for the price to go down like that there HAS to be a catch...

A) THere's a New Console!

or

B) Xbox Live Gold is now $99 a Year!

The 360 is the poor mans console while the PS3 is more prestigious. This is not as true as it was before since the slim came out but before hand I knew a ton of people who could not afford the PS3 and had to serttle for the 360.

GrumpyWalrus
I don't think people settled for an XBox 360 because the PS3 was too expensive. I think people bought the 360 because it had a ton of great games on it. The 1st 2 years had a large abundance of great titles. So I guess the Wii sales were because of the PS3 price as well. Yeah right!! lol!!

Syn_Valence

ps3 is the better console........thats a fact......now better games is the opinion but rrod pretty much invalidated your claim, and second place world wide lol better check your numbers again last time i checked ps3 spanked the 360 in world wide sales

Sorry, but that's NOT A FACT. It's a opinion (yours). Yes, the XBox 360 is still in 2nd place. Still have over 5 million units ahead of the PS3. That lead will most likely grow after Natal, 360 Slim and Halo: Reach gets released. PS3 sold more units then the XBox 360 yes, but the Wii sold more systems then the PS3. See the Irony in that phrase? The Xbox 360 spanked the PS3 2 holidays in a row. Sony doesn't have much to brag about really. They still going to show over $1 billion in loses for 2009, just like they did in 2008.
