lol, seriously? Personally never had a single issue with my PS3, the xbox 360 on the other hand is glitchy as hell. I think it's sad that the majority of issues with the Xbox 360 were due to poor design choices. The 360's componenets are in a metal case wrapped in a thick plastic shell with the only ventilation - two 60mm fans, yeah like that wont overheat.

This. Owning both consoles doesn't make you an expert in their overall failure rates, and saying Microsoft's console is more reliable than any other is laughable.

I would say the new 360 is even with the PS3 in fail rates but if you compare the whole picture Sony wins. The early 360 models as we all know were terrible.

cant say much for Microsoft and reliability :P Windows Vista now that was one tempremetal OS :P same goes for Win98 in the early days.

Sony's no stranger to reliability issues either :P

Anyhow i can say both probably nowadays are probably just as reliable as the other lol.Had a PS2 that died after 6 years and a PS3 that died after 4months lol its just your luck imo.

DroidPhysX

would a psn id even do any good?

there is a site anyone can go to and look up a 360 tag and see exactly what achievements have been awarded but i didn't think there was any kind of site like that for trophys.

that does not seem like a thing that sony would know how to set up or want to pay for to upkeep it.

Overall using the entire console history the PS3 still owns.... Plus you say you own both, did you get a surge of intense energy running through your brain filling you up with knowledge of every breakdown on both consoles when you took it to the check-out? Owning both doesn't mean you know absolutely everything about them, it just means you own both...

ArchoNils2
i actually had my ps3 fail on me before my 360. it was cool, though. i was under warranty and they fixed it for free. my first 360 had a disc-read error, which they swapped for a new unit. the new unit lasted for 3 years, 2 months (ugh, just out of warranty). i've got a 360 slim now. not sure what the actual failure rate is on the new models, but i have noticed they seem to run a lot quieter and cooler than the first iterations. as an aside, if you ever buy the 360 slim, and you don't want to shell out for MS proprietary hard drive, there's a hack that doesn't mess up your warranty where you can take the hard drive from the old model, strip it down, and it fits in the slim. good way to save $150.

Lol, you own both so you would know!!! I also own both, but I still trust my PS3 Slim over my 360s. Simply because Microsoft still uses the same peice of crap CD tray. I'm not saying it's a peice because it's got a tray, I'm saying that because it sounds like it's build like crap!! It still makes all the funny noises the original 360 did (the Disk tray only). I bet that is what breaks first, plus I switch games alot, should I not?:P

I had one friend go through 4 Ps3s yet I am on my 360 from 07. I mean alot of people have working launch 360s while I know a few people with working launch ps3s.

The first Xbox design was cheap and a piece of **** but given time they finally stepped it up and fixed that design. No I'm not talking about the new Xbox I am talking about the Elite which I have now had for 3 years without any issues.

I've been gaming since I got an Atari 2600 in 1979 when I was four years old and I've never had a console die on me, ever (I'm dead serious). I've had said Atari, an NES, a SNES, an N64, a PSone, a launch Dreamcast, a launch PS2, a 2008 PS3, a 2009 XBOX360, and a 2009 Wii. The SNES, N64, PSone, and Dreamcast I sold but not until their respective gens were well over. The others I still have and are all chugging along. So going by TC's logic the all time failure rate for consoles is 0%. I should know, I've neve had one fail. Watch, I just cursed myself.

The original ps3s have a really high failure rate. Every person I know that has a 15 (around 15 ppl) have all had their PS3s break beyond repair and have had to buy a slim.

So you assume that your an expert on statistics and failure rates because you own one of both consoles. Sounds logical... /sarcasm

The original model of the ps3 had a 10% failure rate while the original white 360 had over a 50% failure rate. I assume that the slim ps3 is even better and obviously the 360 S is a lot better than the white ones.

Probably about the same now, with maybe a slight edge in favor of the ps3.

my PS3 will never die... I mean I rarely if ever turn it on except maybe to play PS2 games it's probably going to last me a while considering how much I play my Xbox 360 I expect it to die at some point
