Finally, Microsoft is acting on the importance of having a hard drive. It's bad enough they don't have Blu-Ray. Loading games on the drive will also let it load in shorter time.
I think it's a pretty good deal. But no, you cannot transfer save files by recovering a gamer tag. The only way, I think, is to use that HD transfer cable that they provide if you purchase an Elite...I suppose they will do it for this also.

they betetr i have a TON of saved games
please note
I have sent off for this cable numerous times (as have alot of my friends) when i got my elite and non of them have ever been recieved so please of ypi are thinkin of doing this be warned you may not recieve the cable ever
good deal but still prefer PS3 in terms of options and customizing.
like most people I have 320GB HDD installed in my PS3, which just cost me £55, while a 120GB HDD for X360 cost £120 or £100 in some places.
It's true. The 360 hard drives are actually overpriced, but complain as they might the Xbox fanbase will have to swallow it. It is definitely not a factor in choosing between 360 and PS3, I think...not when you're buying consoles for the games.
But its good that they are encouraging hard drives. My local game store had a transfer cable, so I could transfer content from my old hard drive straight away when I bought my Elite. But really, Microsoft does respond promptly so contact them.
Wow thats actually pretty impressive. I do prefer my 120GB but with the headset and 3 months of Gold makes it a good gift for my brother who is stuck in the stoneage of 20GB and offline gaming...Jstew32
no whenyou retrieve your profile, the saves dont come with it, you need a transfer cableto transfer stuff from 20gig to 60 gig
It likely has a transfer cable in the package if not you can send away for a free one its easy.

Yeah I threw a 160 gig into my 40 gig PS3, it was a pretty good price too, its really lame having to buy so many custom things from MS, its literally the same harddrive, but theres is in a box.. so the price goes up
You should call them and follow up after 2 weeks. I got my cable in a week after a follow up call.please note

That form is BS. When I got my Elite I filled out the form and they didn't send me anything. I waited a month before I decided to call them about it and they game me some BS about not having my info on file and then I mysteriously lost connection with them. After I made a really pissed off follow up call, I got the cable in a week.It likely has a transfer cable in the package if not you can send away for a free one its easy.

While I completely agree that they way MS is handling the HD situation is crappy, saying that it's just in a box is oversimplifying it quite a bit.Funny how I bought a 500gb samsung HDD for $120 and I have me, my wife, 2 nephews that live with me, and their mom all with our own PSN IDs for free. So 5 PSN accounts and a 500 gb HDD for $120 vs paying 5 x $50/yr plus $99 for a puney 60gb HDD. HMM......I wonder which is the better option?!!patriots7672
Not letting so many people use your console for starters.

Why they just log in under their ID when it starts up and this way we can all play games that have autosave without overwriting the other persons game save and we all can keep track of our own trophies collected for each game too and it's all free. Plus massive HDDs for PS3s are dirt cheap.

It will not work if you do that. You cannot swap a 360 drive like you can with a PS3 HD. First of all, there is the matter of a specific type of HD you need to use, then there is the issue of making the 360 recognize the HD. It is in no way as simple as you try to make it seem. It isn't impossible, but it certainly isn't simple. Please Log In to post.
