Sure the 360 is cheaper than PS3. Sure, not EVERYBODY needs wireless and/or online. But that doesn't change the fact that Xbox 360 is terrible value for money.

We all know how it is. 360 is cheaper until you get Wireless and (only one year) of online. With those two features 360 is easily more than PS3, in any country.

PS3 is cheaper than that AND it comes with Blu Ray + a controller that doesn't require an unlimited supply of batteries or extra hardware to keep it charged.

This can't be avoided Lemmings, Microsoft are ripping people off big time.

I got my Xbox 360 for 100 dollars and two controllers. That coupled with it's library leads me to believe that you're wrong, so I would disagree.

If the Xbox 360 is a terrible value, what do you think of the Wii?

I could get by with $300 plus money for games.

PS3 for me would require $340 dollars.

communication with friends I should say, since PS3 users have none, it's win/win.

Dude its a simple fact that overall the Xbox is more expensive. The battery's are a point many miss as well, the controllers do get through them reasonably quickly. Tho people will on average go for the cheaper price on the shelf especially uninformed and impulse buyers. Anyhow nothing wrong with any of this its just a shame that most people attempt to argue why its cheaper. The only way i can think an XBox is cheaper is if you keep it offline and have wired controllers.

Value isn't always objective, as was pointed out. You don't think its a good value. Thats opinion, that is not fact. I shouldn't have to explain that.

I have a play and charge that I got for 10 dollars on Amazon, no batteries aren't an issue. Plus I buy consoles for GAMES, and the Xbox 360 just has a better and more expansive library than the PS3.

Oh, and the electricity that comes from your wall costs money, this is something that can't be avoided cow.

That's why I had AA rechargeable batteries that work with more than 1 appliance, including my controller. Still hold a longer charge too...

Not really.

X-Box 360 Arcade console? $200.

Wi-Fi? Useless. A wired connection is a lot better than wireless for online gaming, especially when you'll get a better connection & a better signal. Can buy a refurbished 120 GB HDD for the 360 at that same price from Gamestop.

X-Box Live? Can find it for cheaper than $50 for a year, if you look good enough.

Games? Have a much better & longer library.

So no, I don't think the 360 is a terrible value for money.

Oh, & not everyone cares about Blu-Ray.

Okay about this battery thing, you get a plug in and play charger, and I think the average gamer is going to buy this

Xbox live is free if you don't care about online ranks and are willing to make a new email once a month:D

And if you love my technicalities so far. It's about 2x as much electricity costs to run the 400 watt power brick on PS3 fat.

360 is 150/175, depending if it's falcon or earlier or a jasper.

edit: last 2 things weren't aimed at you, just adding to first post.

2. Blu-Ray, I saw in your edit is generally $10 more, even rentals are at least 2x as much. Now how many times do we watch movies? Not enough to make the $10 worth anything.

People buy systems for the games, if this wasn't true then why is the Wii outselling the PS3 2-to-1?

360s are selling for close to £100 in the UK. Add wireless (£50) and a year of gold (£35), and that's still cheaper than the cheapest PS3 (£250). I'm not saying that the PS3 isn't better value for money, because it is (with blu ray and hdd as standard), but your argument doesn't work over here

Well first of all the 360 is the same price as the PS3 since you really need a hd to play games and those of course cost $100. Now as far as wireless that is not needed as I don't even use that function with my PS3. I have in the past though but a wired connection is better. Now I agree that live costs $50 but from what people say you get a better experience. Really one is not that much better value over the other unless you plan on watching a lot of blu rays. I prefer the games on the PS3 but again this is very subjective and depends on the person. The only bad purchase would be a Wii(stupid mistake by me). Why get a wii when you can get another last gen system PS2 for $100 cheaper.

I pointed this out a long time ago, but I also recognize that this is all a matter of opinion. When compared, in most cases, yes, the 360 could be more money. However, this doesn't mean that that the 360 is a "rip-off." Most people who bought 360's bought them because they enjoy their exclusives, Xbox Live, and the overall feel of the Xbox 360. Thus, if they purchased the wireless adapter and Xbox Live, the extra spendings is worth it to them.

I feel that it's rediculous that you have to pay extra for a wireless adpater. However, that doesn't mean that I think the Xbox 360 is a "rip-off." By the way, Xbox Live costs money, not that much, but it's well worth it to me.

[QUOTE="Rob-Belmont"][QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"] So then your post is also meaningless?Skittles_McGee

Value isn't always objective, as was pointed out. You don't think its a good value. Thats opinion, that is not fact. I shouldn't have to explain that.

Value is by definition subjective.

You're talking about cost which is just a number. The perception of quality you put behind the number... THAT is subjective. While the cost of the Xbox 360 after your arbitrary add-ons may be more expensive, what people get out of it will vary from person to person. THAT is subjective.

I think the PS3 was the biggest waste of $400 I spent in a long time.

So what. There is always going to be a competing item that is of better value than the most popular item. PS3 has bluray which is one of the reasons I and many others bout it in the first place, the games were an after thought with me. The effect of this phenomenon is that PS3 exclusives liek KZ2 or UC2 sold like crap, why? Because the majority of people bought the system for movie watching. Plus, if you're going to bee online gaming, wired connection is the way to go.

This can't be avoided Lemmings, Microsoft are ripping people off big time.

value is subjective, i don't think the ps3 is worth $300, but i do think the xbox is worth $300

Don't even go there pal, opinions are meaningless.

I agree that it is subjective and for me beside ME there really isn't a game that I need toplay that the PS3 doesn't have. Though I'm not a big online player either so that makes the decision easier also. Though I don't think that the 360 is a bad value compared to the PS3 I just don't see the point of having 2 or more systems when you barely have time to play one. I can invest my money in a lot better things like going to school for my masters or buying some clothes or the occassional jaunt to the strip club. LOL.

I understand the arcade version is cheaper, but can you really recommend the 360 that has no hard drive; for those who are really into gaming anyway? Having the option to install games on the hard drive for better performance is a great feature. Better games though? I think that's more opinion, but it certainly does have a bigger selection of games. I agree with the wireless comment, I can't stand wi-fi; it's so unreliable for me. ;_;

To the topic creator: I think over 30 million people would disagree with you.

The only way i can think an XBox is cheaper is if you keep it offline and have wired controllers. jwsoul
Or if one (like me) already owns rechargeable batteries.

Originally, I preferred the PS3 due to free online gameplay, integrated WIFI and of course Blu-Ray. I was set on it. I've also then found out about the X360's relatively high failure rate. (Didn't even know the existence of Jasper at that time.) Then I headed over to the official PS3 forums where a number of people were complaining about the recent updates screwing up their systems. I also discovered the requirement to download that update in order to play online. Dead Blu-Ray drives, freezes, sync issues. I was scared out of mind.

Yeah, yeah, I know that not every PS3 system is affected by this issue but even the thought of a $300+ bricked system really blew me off. Sony also charges $150 to fix bricks while Microsoft is generous enough to offer a 3 year warranty for RRODs. That coupled along with less failure rates of Jasper units affirmed my decision.

Oh and Natal as well. From the videos I've seen of it, I prefer it vastly over the Wand. But that's a totally different matter.

Just to let you guys know, that a new Xbox Elite can be had now for $275 over at Amazon. Didn't know how long the deal will last since Amazon's prices fluctuate daily so I grabbed it instantly.

[QUOTE="jwsoul"][QUOTE="HoolaHoopMan"]I got my Xbox 360 for 100 dollars and two controllers. That coupled with it's library leads me to believe that you're wrong, so I would disagree.HoolaHoopMan

I have a play and charge that I got for 10 dollars on Amazon, no batteries aren't an issue. Plus I buy consoles for GAMES, and the Xbox 360 just has a better and more expansive library than the PS3.

Yeah it has the better library i guess. Tho its subjective to what you prefer and to be quite honest out of the 2 Consoles being mainly a PC gamer i think the PS3 has the edge with exclusives. On your second point yes its cheaper for you because of the charger you paid for but not everyone dose so.

For example a mate of mine has only recently got a charger and he has owned a 360 for at least 1 year and i estimate 4 months. So it is a factor for most people seeing as most will buy batteries due to the cheaper price tag yet they will not realize that in the long run the charger although initially more expensive will save them money. ( See what i did UH? ) Twas very clever read it again.

The same could be said for the comparison between the consoles, tho thats a bit rich seeing as i brought and im sure you brought your console of choice for the games so i guess it dose not apply to us. Tho the casual and impulse buyer is a different matter all together....
