For games, xbox 360. It has the most diverse library, and it caters to every niche with several hit titles.

For general home-entertainment capability, PS3 for the Blu-ray.

Do you want to play the best game(s) of this gen?

Do you want a reliable console?

Do you want a free, good online service?

If yes, get a PS3

The PS3, then sell the PS3, and get a 360 elite + games. But if you want actual help, maybe say what kind of games you like and what you plan on using your console for along with gaming.

In my opinion it comes down to the PS3. Heres how I look at it as far as games

360:

Halo 3

Gears 1 & 2

Fable

Ps3:

Resistance 1 & 2

Uncharted: Drake"s Fortune

LittleBIGplanet

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

(And the former 360 exclusive: Bioshock)

I will now wear my flame shield....I think the PS3 has better games

If u buy the PS3.. u WILL regret it! the 360 has superior on-line & games library by far! & the XBL marketplace is FAT with downloadable content unlike its competition.. PSN is a complete joke of an on-line service free or not! The best game experience by far this gen.. is the 360!

You obviously have not even touched/seen a PS3 before...

Listen, you should get whatever you feel like: Both systems have great games, but I personally would choose PS3. If you got any questions, feel free to PM me about the PS3

Of course, Sony will still post a profit--most analysts claim that it'll be about $500 million--but the downturn speaks to Sony's issues and the fact that this once-dominant company has been downgraded to an also-ran in the industry.

Remember the days of Sony dominance? It was a time when the Walkman was on the minds of tech lovers around the world and the PlayStation moniker was held in the highest regard. Sony TVs were everywhere, and the company's ability to capitalize on any market was truly astounding.

But since then, Sony has lost its way. It's no longer a company that can rely on its name to beat other companies to a pulp, and with more competitors realizing how to beat Sony, it has quickly become irrelevant in many markets.

Sony's presence in the digital-camera sector is suspect, and its gaming business, once one of the most profitable departments at the company, has become an embarrassment of epic proportions. Although its PlayStation Portable is expected to beat forecasts, the Playstation 3 has proven to be one of the biggest blunders the company has ever committed.

At a time when Sony couldn't afford to make the wrong move in the game industry, it did. As Nintendo found a way to solidify itself in the market by offering innovative gameplay and an affordable price, Sony stuck to old conventions and played the "better graphics, higher price" game instead. Microsoft did too, but the Xbox 360's price tag and online experience were able to coax prospective owners to its side.

Much like other markets in which Sony competes, I just don't think it understands how to win anymore in the video game sector. Doesn't it realize that although it believes that the PS3's price point is fine for consumers, it really isn't? And doesn't it realize that it needs to differentiate the product in some way? Games that can be purchased on an Xbox 360 don't cut it anymore.

Oh, and neither does Blu-ray Disc.

Sony is living in the past on too many fronts. It thinks that selling products on its name will work like it did years ago, but I think it has finally become clear that it doesn't. Sure, Sony is still a "household brand," and there are millions of people clamoring for its products, but its name has lost significant appeal over the past few years, as it failed to tailor its strategy to consumer desires.

If Nintendo has shown us anything, it's that consumers want innovation and affordable consoles. Sony has failed on both fronts. And if countless competitors in the other markets Sony competes in have shown us anything, it's that consumers will pay for high-quality products as long as they're priced according to their value. In other words, paying a premium on Sony products because they're made by Sony doesn't appeal to anyone anymore.

There's absolutely no reason why Sony LCD HDTVs are priced as high as they are. Why should I pay a few hundred dollars more for a 46-inch LCD from Sony when I can get an even better HDTV from a company like Samsung or Panasonic for the same price, or even cheaper? I'm not willing to pay for the Sony name, and as Vizio and Westinghouse have shown, most customers aren't willing to do so, either.

And now, as Sony executives look in the mirror and try desperately to find what's wrong, they need only to look at the company they're operating. The culture at Sony is one that tries to make you pay more for a name that isn't held in the high regard it once was. And in the process, it's losing its standing in the industry as more consumers realize that better products can be purchased at a lesser price.

If Sony really wants to turn things around, it needs to do something it never thought possible: bring prices down to a more competitive level. Bring the PlayStation 3 prices down to compete on the same level as the Xbox 360. Get rid of the premium pricing on HDTVs. Eliminate the higher price tags on digital cameras.

And for goodness' sake, stop pretending like it's the 1990s all over again. It's not.

Things haven't been going over too well in the Sony camp since the launch of the PS3. While it sold faster than the PS2 in comparison to its launch, the PS3 has been a financial pain in Sony's side for the past two years. The added state of the rest of the economy have finally culminated in Sony seeing 10% of their market share value drop rapidly. So what does this mean for the PS3?

In a story by rte (among many others) Sony's operating profits are expected to drop by an inexcusable 65%. Competition has been stiff. And even though many reporters blame the Wii, it's actually Microsoft's Xbox 360 that has been eating into Sony's gaming sales. It wasn't the Wii that the PS3 lost Devil May Cry's exclusivity to, nor was it the Wii that gave gamers an alternative for games like BioShock, Eternal Sonata, Unreal Tournament 3 and Fatal Inertia. Said games helped give Microsoft an edge in giving gamers a cheaper console option for the same gaming titles.

It also wasn't the Nintendo Wii that stiffened sales for the PS3 so much as it was the Xbox 360 preventing the PS3 from selling the way it could have. This is not to say that Sony would have gained any ground against Nintendo's ferocious little Wii had the 360 not been around. But it certainly would have afforded Sony far less competition in the hardcore gaming market, which they are fighting for in direct competition with Microsoft.

But at this rate - failing economy, cheaper competitor consoles, lesser third-party exclusivity - Sony could be heading the same route of Sega and simply hanging up the console fighting gloves altogether. Between less than stellar sales figures, extremely costly research and development, and the cost of production, the PS3's only saving grace for Sony, at the moment, is the PS2's strong selling power for the entire PlayStation brand. Besides, ending a console run with such a prestigious piece of equipment as the PS3 certainly isn't a bad way to go out.

It's an extreme long-shot to put one's trust in cutting the price on the PS3 to turn things around, but it could help bring in some dominance in the market value of the Sony brand, once again. But even with a price-cut on the pricey console, it may not be enough to start turning profits in the entertainment [gaming] division for Sony unless manufacturing costs drop again. Software would also have to be used to propel gamers to further purchase the console, otherwise Sony will stay in a deadlock with Microsoft, competing for the undecided gamers.

Hands down, though, it's not a pretty picture for Sony, and the economy is letting everyone know that this is going to be a very long haul. Things could always turn around for the company, and when they do Blend Games will be sure to let you know. Until then, be sure to stay tuned in with us, or drop by the Blend Games Forum for further discussions on the hottest games.

^^^ ummmm... zzzzz

anyway. both consoles are good. The whole "ps3 is just a blu-ray player" is so old it's funny. Some great games to be had on both platforms. For me, it just comes down to the reliability of the hardware. I do not trust the 360 one bit. Had two, both broke. Got a ps3, had it ever since.

The PlayStation 3, no doubt. The line-up games this year has been amazing, and the hardware is reliable (unlike the 360), plus free online.

If you have no friends or you don't want to get friends to play with get a PS3. It's the perfect console to play alone.

and if you wanna do the contrary then get the xbox 360.

This is a tough quetion and it all depends what type of games you like. As an owner of both systems, I personally like my 360 better because I am mainly a Shooter and Racing games fan. The 360 has the best controller for those types of games, and believe me I did not realize that until I picked a 360 controller and played for hours with it, then jumped back to a PS3 controller to play the same game and realized that the 360's controller is much better for those types of games. (I owned my PS3 for much longer than my 360, more than a year longer). On that note, I of course can't pass on GT5P which is the best racer IMHO but I play that with my logitech G25 racing wheel. I do think the PS3 controller is better for sport games so I own FIFA 09 for example on my PS3. Overall, my 360 gets much more play time.

Xbox 360

Microsoft's Xbox 360 controllers are the most weighted when compared to either Wii or PS3 -- by far. They also pack the most rumble punch, shaking profusely during intense gaming moments. So it would make sense to think the added density and tactile feedback would drain batteries with haste, but our lab results proved quite the contrary. The Xbox 360 controller endured an impressive 56 hours and 56 minutes, the most of any wireless controller we tested. Fittingly, our second to last play session went 360 minutes on the dot. The dashboard battery meter isn't as accurate as PS3 or Wii, but for maximum gaming on a single battery charge, the Xbox 360 can't be beat. ProTip: Consider an Xbox 360 Quick Charge Kit or alternative to avoid disposable batteries, though you'll get a bit less mileage between charges.

So which battery setup works best? That, like the consoles themselves, is entirely subjective. The PS3 controller is rechargeable, the Wii Remote customizable, and the Xbox 360 long-lasting. Now that's playing with power. -- Blake Snow

Besides.. jus owning a dirt bike & comparing that to a road bike (dirt/road) is a different feel all together, u SHOULD know this! I have my doubts that, u actually have played any of the Moto GP series games, & if u have.. plz PM me your XBL gamertag, i would like to check your game history & achievments for Moto GP. :)amazingtroll

LOL, I am not bragging.. I did play the Moto GP demo and didn't like them. Yes, there is a huge difference between dirt and street. I myself jumped from the street to the dirt world only to find out that the rides are completely different. I'd have to say that my favorite Bike game implementation is Burnout (their last download if you have the game)

I played the Burnout Demo over XBL.. had some fun.. but, decided not to purchase the game. I jus cant believe your comparing a game that does everything ta a game that SPECIALIZES in one thing! & DLC added bike content fer a arcade style car racing game on top of that! lol!

Do what I did, Get the PS3 first as its the largest invesment, then make your lil sister ask for a WII on christmas and finally get a summer job to buy the elite, thats what I did.

On the other hand if u are just willing to get one, IMO get the PS3, if youre lucky you could find a 60 gb launch console.

IMO to truly enjoy this gen of gaming you need to get two consoles, the PSWII combo sounds like a winner to me. OR you could get an arcade 360 + WII for 450 plus tax, more less the same price as an 80 gb PS3
