They both have games for young kids to play, mine is coming on six in a couple of months and she loves the xbox. If you want multimedia fuctions the PS3 wins.
You won't get much sense on here, if you are asking a genuine question I would just check each consoles own board to find out what it does and doesn't do :).

Was that a jab at me? lol
both are about as family friendly as a gaming pc
as in... neither of the above
if i had to make a choice i'd say PS3 because of LBP tho 360 also has games like Trials HD, Viva Pinata and Banjo Kazooie
Hey buddy they are even they have the same amount of kiddie games your six year old shouldn't really be playing the PS3 or 360 the Wii has more games to offer him than these two systems combined. P.S I'm not bashing on the Wii I own one I'm just telling the truth.
Well, with the PS3 you get a Blu-Ray player. So you can watch Blu-Ray disks, obviously. In terms of games...it has Little Big Planet. I mean, all the high scoring exclusives on the PS3 are all rated T-M. Uncharted 2 is T...now there's a game that will blow anyone away, regardless of age. You also have an internet browser built in, plus free onlime and Wifi. In-terms of price to features, I think the PS3 offers more for what you're asking.
But this is just my opinion.
TC said he wants a console that his 6 year old will play also. It's for him as well, so why are you guys talking about Nintendo?

ROFLMAO @ ur sig:lol:
If it is about "family" oriented content then you really should be looking at a Wii and not a PS3 or 360. With all of the Mario type titles, Zelda's and the like, the Wii is the place. Now that being said, of the 3, the PS3 most definitely offers more of a complete package. It not only plays games and BluRay movies, but it can also function as a Web browser for things like YouTube and FaceBook and as a media hub for things off your PC like movies and music! The Playstation store has plenty of kid oriented games that you can download plus there are the Ratchet and Clank titles and Little Big Planet.
PS3 seems more family friendly to me out of those two. When I think 360 I think swearing 12 year olds on live saying "BOOM HEADSHOT!"
Xbox 360 - mostly because they tend to brand their family stuff way more. They've got Hasbro family games (connect 4, sorry, yahtzee), uno, and like 25 other family friendly downloadable games, and another 35 retail games (mostly movie games though) according to the 360 website. Basically w/ the ps3 you're looking at LBP, the same movie games, and a few psn choices.
Because Nintendo systems, as much as you'd like to deny it, have games for everyone?TC said he wants a console that his 6 year old will play also. It's for him as well, so why are you guys talking about Nintendo?

No....no! That's not true....THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!
My 4 year old son prefers my 360. His favorite games are Banjo Kazooie, Ultra marble blast (xbox arcade game), Viva Pinata Party animals, Feeding Frenzy (xbox arcade), and L4D...lol. On my PS3 he LOVED LBP for a while and then got bored of it, but still plays it from time to time. There just seems to be more for him on the 360.
Xbox 360 Arcade is the worst value out of all the consoles, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Nice upfront price, worst price long runThe Xbox 360 Arcade is pretty family friendly because it has more games, have a price that's family friendly, and I think have more games that have local splitscreen and co-op play.

Speaking as a parent, I'd say the 360 is more family-friendly. Both system have enough games to be worthwhile. The breaking point comes when you look at the parental controls.
The 360 has a rating system that transparent to the ESRB and MPAA, but the PS3 uses their own gradient that requires a little deciphering.
That family timer is an excellent idea.
If you want to venture online with your kid, there's a scheduled Family Game Night which is a nice walled garden to play in and meet with other parents.
On top of that, MS is really focused on family gaming with their outreach programs to educate parents about gaming and the internet in general. Just taking a look at what's available on Sony's site and Microsoft's site, there's just so much more information and resources available to an Xbox parent.

Agreed. In the long run it's going to cost you like 400-500 dollars.

I agree with this upfront price and "value" for gamers like us here on forums, but I was just thinking if parents just want to buy their child a game system they would just pick the Arcade. It's the cheapest console and it can still play all these family friend games.I was going to say never ever share a console with a kid because they'll want to play when you're the most occupied with a game. It's best to get the 6-yr old a Wii for his own and keep the 360/PS3 to yourself.
I'm looking at buying either an Xbox 360 or a PS3. There are a couple of games I would like on either console, but none of them are deal breakers. Which ever console I buy my 6 year old will probably want to play too. I've been trying to research games and such and don't see any significant differences. (Yes, I know each has exclusive titles.) So what I'm wondering is: Does one of them have more family friendly games? Is one of them a better addition to my entertainment center. ie. Does one have other features that the whole family would enjoy? Thanks!Leodak
Get a PS3 and get "Little Big Planet: Game of the Year Edition" for your kid. And for you, get "Uncharted 2". I would strongly suggest that you get it at a store that sells primarily video games and ask them for help on futher purchases too.
