Hey y'all, all I have right now is a Wii, and I want something more. Half of my friends say to get the xBox 360, and the other half says the PS3. I am open to suggestions!
This topic is locked from further discussion.
No offense, but I don't think you should ask this question here. No one is going to give you an honest answer, just a bunch of biased lies that arn't true at all. I'm not going to tell you what system you should buy, only YOU can decide that for yourself, not me or anyone else. If you let someone else decide for you then your just going to end up regretting it, I'll tell you what I tell everyone who is looking to buy a system.
1. What system has the exclusives you like the most? Do you want Uncharted and Killzone and Infamousand LBP ect...then PS3 is the more attractive choice. Do you want Halo and Fable and Gears of War and Forza ect...then the 360 is the more atttractive choice. Exclusives are IMO the most important choice in trying to figure out what system to get, you can't get these games on the other system so make sure you think wisely about what games you like the most.
2. Do you want an online service with FREE online play, or do you want one that has a couple extra features and is a little more integrated but don't mind the price ($60 a year)? If you want the first option (FREE) then PS3 is the better system for you, if you prefer the second option then 360 is the better choice for you. Also what online service your friends use also comes into play here aswell, but your own personal prefrence should come first.
3. Do you want Blu Ray? If you want the best in HD Movies and sound, then the PS3 is the better choice.
4. What system brand are you more familar with? If you owned a PS2 and a PS1 before then you would probably like the PS3 more, if you owned an Xbox then you would probably prefer a 360.
5. What system has the controller you like better?
Beyond that I can't think of much else Sorry for the long read, but this is the most helpful your going to get and it's the most honest and fair answer.
Oh and here are a few common lies about boths sytems that you should be aware of. Anyone who says these things should be ignored.
Lie 1. One online service is more laggy than the other. Thisis a lie that comes around sometimes and it's complete BS, neither service is more laggy than the other, the online gameplay is EXACTLY the same. Only difference is that there are more mics on XBL than PSN, some people like that better but ohters find it annoying. Both have around the same number of people and the same amount of skilled and unskilled players online. But just ignore anyone who says that one service is more laggy, neither service is better for online or multiplayer, they are the same in that area.
Lie 2. Multiplats are better on one system then the other. Aside a couple of exceptions, all multplats look and play identicle. You'll be fine with games on either system, people saying otherwise are lieng and being idiots. It's a major exaggeration and complete BS.
Lie 3. No one buys games on the PS3/360, this is simply untrue. People buy games on both systems and they seem to sell around the same usually. No one is going out of business, don't worry.
Lie 4. Get a PC, if you were interested in PC gaming then you would have cared, but this isn't about that. Just ignore the PC fanboys.
Oh and I recommend ifyour interseted in a 360 that you get the Slim model (not the 4GB model), this is becasue older models were prone to crapping out and breaking. It was a complete disaster, luckily the new system doesn't do that. But just think about what YOU want, not what anyone else wants you to want...

cool thanks bro
I recommend both but if I had to pick one it would be the Xbox 360.
Pick the one you have the most friends playing. Playing online with friends is 1000 times better than playing with random people.
If you have equal number of friends on each go with the Xbox 360 if you live in North America and PS3 outside NA. Europe is like 55% to 45% PS3 for example.

I'd get a 360. It has a larger library and multiplats are usually better on it.

bro the guy before you just said multiplats are all the same, so whats really better about the 360
They are not all the same. Most 360 multiplats are better. In most cases though, the difference in minimal. The 360 controller is also awesome. The 360 also has lots of PC/360 games the are some of the best this gen, imo.

good read.
I guess that's pretty much sums it up fairly TC.
I'll summarize even further to few bullet points:
- online services & which console most of your friends own
- controller
- exclusives
- movie / tv content & quality

Most 360 multiplats are identicle to PS3 multiplats. There is virtually no difference, really that is such a stupid argument you just made. Eveything else you listed is an opinion, in mine the PS3 controller is more awesome, and the PS3 get's alot of the same PC multiplatss aswell. Only a few like L4D and Mass Effect 1 are on 360.

Right it was an opinion, that why to finished with "imo". The multiplats on 360 are superior lost of times, but the difference is minimal. I didn't say, OMG 360 PWNZ teh PS3 IT'S NO EVEN FUNNEH!!11! INZ TEH MULTPLATZZZZ!!! They are very close, to the point where you need sites like Lens of Truth to tell the difference. It's just the PS3 does sometimes get bombs like Skyrim where it's usually safer to buy multiplats on 360.
Do you like online multiplayer shooters and dont mind paying for online every month? Get 360
Do you like variety of games from different genres? Get PS3
---
You wont regret buying any of them, but imo PS3 has much more interesting games and more variety. 360 is much better platform for couch coop though.
At this point in the gen? Since you're asking for advice I'm assuming you're not hellbent on playing one set of exclusives vs the other... so go PC. You'll enjoy superior multiplats, the largest set of exclusives, cheaper games, and have a leg up on next gen.
and have a leg up on next gen.

See this is why I'd hold off on a pc. I don't game on pc that much anymore, but aren't new cards usually released shortly after the console launch?
well what games do you want? Ps3 has a great variety of exclusives to play but if you just want to play online/multiplats then 360 might be better but both systems have great features.

well does halo come on ps3? cus i want halo, but i also want infamous
Look at the games and make a decision. However, new consoles may be announced soon, so I'd wait and see if they will be backwards compatible. If so, I'd wait until they come out to decide.
I mean, you've made it this long without them.

Don't get a PS3. Sony is doomed haven't you heard?
Just kidding, Sony is not going anywhere.
System Wars is the WORST place for an honest unbiased opinion. Try general discussion since here all you get are fanboys, especially these days.

I'd try General Discussion.
I'd also weigh out the differences and how they benefit you. Games you would like, friends on each system, etc. Those are probably the two main ones, but Shadow listed all the important ones.

I wouldn't tell anyone I might sell my current product to that I'm going to replace it soon either.

Seriously, you both need to join the manticore race. It is fun and you get swords that shoot flames made by Bethesda and the Portal Gun courtesy of Valve.
