Just wanted to get a consensus of how gamers here position their Xbox 360 and whether they've ever had problems.

- My Xbox 360 is vertical
- It's a couple months old I had to take my launch system back since it would freeze while playing games (no red ring of death, just freeze at a higher rate than I could stand).

Oblivion seems to be the issue, but maybe b/c it gets the longest play time. When playing this game (vertical 360), my system at times seems to have problems spinning the disk. It will make an odd noise but still play. My spotless game when put in, comes out with some scratches in it. The scratches are relatively small in size but enough that I already had to repair Oblivion once.

Now I sit here with it slightly scratched again, and I'm wondering if it's due to the orientation of the system?

Side note: I'm not moving the system while it's on (it tells you not to when you buy it and I don't know why you would anyway).

Anyone else have this issue? Or have you heard anything about it?

Yes, i have that issue, but its never really damaged my oblivion disc to the point were it gets disc read errors.

Plus Oblivion is a weird game its tends to freeze a lot(i've had it freeze maybe 5 times since ive had it. But none of my other games have ever frozen.

the only other game i have had problems with is Dead Rising (gets disc read errors a lot)

EDIT: BTW my console is horizontal. And by wierd noise do you mean like it makes a disc scratching noise and then the disc drive seems to power down, and be very quiet?

Horizontal is most stable.

Make sure there's plenty of breathing space for cooling.

Don't put it anywhere near loud speakers.

It's properly positioned and ventilated (as are my other systems, I actually strive a great deal to properly protect my electronics), there is not vibration or movement occurring.

Bingo, I look over going "WTH :?". So you get this horizontal?

Yeah Oblivion was the reason I took my first Xbox 360 back, freezing at least once a play through was not acceptable for me, it has since improved with the new hardware, but the scratches hosed me once (Thieves Guild quest where the head guard walks in to find some evidence I planted, goes into some unskipable dialog... unable to read the audio is would give me a DRE).

up i get it horizotal, but i got it more often when it was vertical.

I just want to know why it seems to powerdown and make less noise. :P   i hope its not bad.

Not sure why it does that, my first Xbox 360 would eventually freeze after that happens and hence the take back. Now it just seems to stop but still play the game? Oblivion seems o be the only game I have that does this though, it also is the only one being scratched. I wonder if the data placement is a strain on drive?

OK its definetly gotta be the hardware that scratches your disk, the freezes most likely because of oblivion, cause the framerate so ******* slow...even with my PS3 a well made system oblivion freezes and the framerate drops....just a ****** made game.  The game even started making some AOL database dialup sound when i fighting this electrical rock monster, I was like wtf?  None of my other games freezes, just oblivion.  You definetly need to b at M$ about your 360 hardware though.

Make sure you ventilate the Console and the brick. and mines still works perfect.

But I shouldn't have to suspend my fuking console with LEGOS MS... :P

Or else.

I keep my 360 horizontal and elevated about an inch above the table with 4 rubber stands so it gets some air flow underneath. I've never had a single scratch on any of my discs yet, but I've never tried it vertical once. I don't know if I'm lucky and its just a problem with certain consoles or it has to do with the way I have it set up, but I've had zero problems so far.

I just looked at my Gears of War disc, which gets the most play time lately, and it has absolutely no marks on it. But then I've only had the game for like a month or so.

I think its like a computer disk drive...Know how when you first insert the disk it spins real fast to upload it and then powersdown once its uploaded.  Thats what it reminds me of.
