Its nowhere near a powerhouse, such a powerhouse would do 720p easy, it has 48 shaders going for it, but all that is useless with that 128 bit, at the time there were cards even a lowly 6800GS was putting 256bit interface, having a 128bit gpu is a very big bottleneck, and a 1gb of memory in 2005 sounded right, but the costs wanted to be keept in check, yet in a year all that extra i mentioned is dirt cheap, graphics sells consoles, just having a reputation of being the most powerful console sells product, this would have made sony go with a better GPU based on the 8 series and it would have had more ram, thats why this gen is a fake HD era.
the xbox has enough power to finish this gen.
I don't care about "fake HD" gen at all. point is, the games look fine on my TV and I enjoy the games I have. That's all I care about.
If anything I would say the consoles that came out a full year later should have been more powerful, given the obvious time frame advantage.dru26This I've said many times myself. The TC really should be saying the PS3 should be more powerful as I think most of us expected it to blow away the 360 since it came out a full year later and cost almost twice as much.
actually i agree with TC.. they should've at least increased the embedded 10mb EDRAM of the GPU to a level that could allow developers to do HDR + 4xAA at 720p without tiling.
the ps3 is even worse in terms of power... all multiplats seems to be getting downgraded due to it's poor performing rsx compared to xenos.
I am really dissapointed in both consoles, especially 360, it should have been a powerhouse like the original xbox, while sony was focused at ps3 multimedia crap and all the add ons MS just had one goal was to make the 360 a powerful gaming machine, it doesnt have a blu ray no wifi launch consoles didnt have hdmi ports, so it was stripped bare, they should have equiped it with a 1gb of memory and xenos should have been a 256 bit gpu, it would have done wonders in todays games, devs would be laughing at 720p resolutions instead of months of painstaking optimizations, while idiots in sony camp put stickers on ps3 and how it can do 1080p, and morons put 256mb of actual memory, it just pisses me off that all these little gadgest are included yet the gpu and the memory took a shaft, but 360 has no excuses it didnt include anything special yet it only made a adequate gaming machine, going from 128bit to 256bit is a big leap in graphics, more bandwith, and now we are in sub HD era where the greatest devs cant even squezze 720p resolutions without FPS taking a hit.deniiiii21
FYI...Many Xbox 360 games are 1080P. There are debates on which are native, and which are upconverting, but there have been titles verified with 1080P Native output. It does have the power for it. And remember it was released in 2005. Things change quickly. If it was released today then your argument would have marit, but as it stands it is still great technology when you think about it being 3 years old (that is 66 in technology years).
I would like to see more 1080P titles for my PS3 though. And my Wii....Oh never mind 720 and 1080 isn't in its vocab.
Name me 3 games that output 1080P on xbox360deniiiii21
- Virtua Tennis 3
- Boogie Bunnies
- Street Home Court
I win !!!!
I give you some, MGS4 640p Halo3 640p COD4 580p GTA4(ps3) 640p, the biggest games this gen are not even in HD, yet this is the HD era.
So those count as major games, boogie bunnie, and virtual tennis, I mean really, name something that counts.deniiiii21They do count.
