Wasn't the 360 to sell one billion units under its lifespan at first? :P

fortunately for MS they have 2 tricks up their sleeves...
no1. Halo3
no2. price cut- as soon as they have 65nm CPUs & 65nm GPUs in production they can afford to cut the price & its been estimated that they will enter production Q4 this year.
Xbox360 wasnt selling brilliantly in '06 but they managed to ship a whole lot in the run up to Xmas...

Did some more quick research, i guess you are right. Anyway, The 12 million estimate does includes the Elite.
That is barely anything :|
I thought they'd be nearly 20 million by the end of '07. Wow, how dissapointing. Imagine the sales boost if they never released the Elite and they lowered the price a bit.Â
GS:Stuffing the channel - Bogus
Saying that MS didn't stuff the channel - Bogus
Seriously Lems were going off about how the 360 sold 10 million before the PS3/Wii even launched because some stupid site with an imaginary count said so. Now they are projecting that they will only sell 2 million more in a whole year.
Lets face it both the 360 and Wii are selling because thier respective previous gen system was axed on the announcement of the new one. Those gamers had no where to go but to the next console or they could replay thier old games. Sure Ninty threw GC owners a bone and gave them LoZ:TP. I feel Sony's strategy is to keep the PS2 alive until the actual PS3 games come out that will move systems. They knew that the ultimate hardcores would buy it in limited quanities. They will have manufacturing cheaper to the point where they can drop the price and open the floodgates. I think its better than killing off the old system and leave everyone in the dirge for a year with limited games.  It was the same way with PS2 but nobody seems to remember that.

he wish , X360 has not yet 10 million, how much more 12 million. just like the original Xbox, X360 sales will stop at 25 million, 30 million tops.xxThyLordxx
Actually, I think there was just a misunderstanding with MS's fiscal year.
I may be wrong however.

It's pretty funny how few units Microsoft has managed to move this year. I wonder if they'll dump another huge load of them on retailers this november and then claim "16 million sold" or some other line of ****.Â
:| you're telling me they sold 10 million around the first week of january, and sales have slowed down so much that its going to take them 3/4 of a year to sell no 1/5 a much? No, something fishy happened.
Something fishy is going on.
Adrian_Cloud
It's called channel stuffing, it's an underhanded method to make a company look better than it is, and it's what MS did with the 360.

100% true.
Something's wrong when Microsoft brags about hitting 10 million in Jan and then says they'll hit 12 million 8 months later.nnavidson

Indeed, that means they only expect to sell 250k worldwide per month. If that's what they expect. Wii is going to crush them.Â
I hate to say this, because I'm not a fan of Halo...but when Halo 3 launches, the number of 360s sold will skyrocket. It will be ridiculous. If Wii surpasses 360 b4 Halo 3 launches, then 360 will surpass Wii again after Halo 3 launches. We can debate 360 sales all we want, but the fact of the matter is that when Halo 3 launches, the holiday 360 console sales season could TRIPLE in sales of the previous holiday season. AvIdGaMeR444
I think people over estimate this franchise, it has awsome critical acclaim and it does sell well but it did not help the first xbox sell anymore units than 20% of what the PS2 managed to shift. I would imagine the majority of people waiting for Halo3 already own a 360 and play GoW on it.

Actually, MS recently stated that roughly 40% of 360 owners owned an original Xbox.
40% of roughly 10,000,000 is 4,000,000.
Meaning 20,000,000 Xbox owners haven't bought an Xbox 360 yet.
Many are waiting for Halo.

By this logic, there are 100 mil PS2 owners that are waiting for MGS4 and FFXII to buy a PS3...right?

No.
Amazng assumption n your part, Mr.Logic, but I was showing that many who had an original xbox hadn't boughta new one.
Dosn't mean they all will.
Again, outstanding assumption you made about me on your part.
