We all know that a high-end gaming desktop PC can easily beat an Xbox 360 in when it comes to graphics, but what about a gaming laptop? nVidia Geforce 8800 GTs may eventually show up in laptops soon, along with Intel Penryn processors, etc. If you are an experienced PC gamer, would you suggest that a high-end gaming laptop can beat an Xbox 360 or PS3 when it comes to graphics, or can only desktops truly do that? I would say that Dell's XPS M1730 gaming laptop MIGHT be able to do it, but I'm not too sure. I know any modern laptop can outperform a PS2 and Xbox 1, no problem, but a 360 or PS3?

Your thoughts?

Depends on the laptop. I think the 360 could beat out something with a Geforce 7000M series or 8400M, and something with a 8600M GS would be a close fight. But the hardcore gaming laptops with dual 8600M GT's and 8700M's would absolutely spank the 360.

Same here. I play my games on a modern low-end laptop with an nVidia Geforce 7300 GS. The graphics are nothing great, but I can still play new games on low settings or older games on high settings. The comfort of playing games on my bed instead of a chair really makes me think that laptops are the best gaming platform for me. :)

Believe it or not, the current gen is pretty powerful

I think its a valid question, laptops are usually less powerful than desktops for obvious reasons

I think a gaming laptop could beat a 360 graphically, I don;'t think it would destrot it though, nothting does, desktop PC are just better.

I have a laptop with a Intel Duo Core T7300 (2.0 GHz), 2gb ram and an 8600m GT (256mb). Its not really a gaming laptop but it still runs a lot of games on high settings. Though I probably would be able touse higher settingsif I had XP instead of Vista.

So I guess gaming laptops with more ram and an SLI 7950 GTX or perhaps an 8700m GT would be able to outperform a 360.

I'd never get a laptop for gaming. If you want a supercharged desktop replacement powerhouse, it weights too much to take on travels. Another problem with desktop replacements is the price. They cost a lot more than desktops and don't even offer the same performance.

If you buy a lighter travel laptop, it won't be any good for gaming. But they are great for what they are done for: everything else.

you can get some nice laptops now. i know some can even do SLI now so if you have the extra cash then sure a high end laptop can run any game as some high end desktops. they are pretty expensive tho the really good ones go for 4,000 when you can get the desktop version for 2,000 or under
