It's about equel I'd say, if you were playing at the same resolution as 360 ( < 720p) you'd prolly get similar graphics and performance in most games, propably even better on average, maybe worse with some poor ports. Laptops no matter how good they are aren't really made for gaming tho, I wouldn't overclock them much either.
I have an XPS M1730 as well, but my video card is an 8700 M GT.
Running on the same 720p TV as my 360, they are roughly equal, with a slight edge to the 360.
Not sure if your graphics card is better or worse than mine.
If it's better, then it will probably beat the 360 slightly, but if it's worse it will be noticeably behind the 360.

Actually, UT3 + 8600M GT GDDR3 (I use ASUS G1S) fps results are superior to Xenos's UT3 fps.I never tried playing CoD4 on my laptop, But I am playing fallout 3 with medium settings graphics.. if I went with Ultra settings it would lag, and the *high* settings gives me the lag spikes sometimes. Valor_AshWith Fallout 3, I play in high settings mode at 1280x720p.
Laptop: ASUS G1S (May 2007 model)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 @2.2Ghz, 800Mhz FSB
Memory: 4 GB PC5300 dual channel mode.
Chipset: Intel PM965.
GPU: Geforce 8600M GT 256MB GDDR3.
PS; My laptop was recently replaced with 2008 model ASUS G1SN since Geforce 8600M GT burnt out.
Compared to Xenos, 7900M still has 256bit wide bus and has more ROPs. Geforce 8600M GT is about same as Geforce 7900M GS in performance. Geforce 7 has issues HDR FP targets + hardware AA and limited vertex shaders.Your CPU and RAM are vastly superior to the 360, your graphics card is about the same as the 360, maybe a little worse as its a mobile version of the 7900

I have been scratching my head over and over about this. I dunno which is the best place to post this thread, so thought this might be the place to solve my problem. I was just curious on how good the Xbox 360 graphics compared to my Dell XPS M1710 laptop. the problem is that I do not want to waste money on buying new rigs to compete with the games on the market now, I just need to a perfect engine to run the games to my desired needs and enjoy the graphics for years to come. As my laptop has all built-in and cannot upgrade any of its components for increased performance (although I never tried overclocking it, might give it a shot on that). I wanted to see if the Xbox does compete with my laptop and if they are on the same par. If so, then I'd be wasting my money on buying the xbox seeing its games are 90% on PC as well. My Laptop spec are as follows: SYSTEM: Windows XP, Media Center Edition XPS M1710 Core 2 Duo Processor T7600 @ 2.33 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB 2048MB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024) 100GB (7,200 rpm) Hard Drive DISPLAY: XPS 512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GTX Current Display mode: 1920 x 1200 (32 bit) (60Hz) Version: 6.14.0011.7431 I do not know how to compare the xbox spec with my laptop specs, but wanted to know if the xbox is better than my current laptop. If not, i'd be better off staying with my laptop or saving $$ to get a new desktop rig. Please help a newbie =))Valor_AshIf your laptop can run UT3 at 1280x720p, high details and greater than 30FPS then your laptop can easily handle Xbox 360 ported games. But, you to be aware that Geforce 7s' design limitations.
It depends a lot on your drivers and set up.
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.4ghz
4GB DDR2
nVidia 8600m GT
With this i run fallout 3 at 1280x720 on all high with shadows at medium and AA at x2. (hovers at 30-35fps 25 with fatman)
Here is some info on your card as well as some 3D Mark scores and some framerates in different games: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-Go-7900-GTX.2131.0.html
Won't be 100% accurate but should work as a rough guideline. You should be able to tweak the hell out of the games to get even better results too.
