If you could have the ear of MS for 15 minutes to tell them what improvements you would want to see over the XBOX 360 for the next XBOX, what would they be? For me.....

1. Obviously have graphics that will compete with the hottest gaming PC's

2. Slot load for discs. Tray loaders are outdated and impractical.

3. Rechargeable controllers. Battery packs have no place in gaming controllers.

4. BluRay is a must!

5. XBOX Live should have more than (2) tiers. I think something like Silver, Gold and Ultimate. Silver basically does what it does now. Gold should be free and allow you to play online. Then the third tier Im proposing would give you Gold features, but maybe you get games on demand at a seriously reduced price, first crack at demo and maybe even exclusive access to potential digital download for new releases. MS can charge for this one.

6. Full M/KB support. I know, I know. PC gamers will say "if you want to play M/KB, then go buy a PC"! Well I say that MS could really put a dent in the PC gaming realm if XBOX 720 players could play FPS's with M/KB plus it opens up alot more avenues for RTS and RPG's.

7. 720p and 60fps minimum for every game!! You will all say that 720p is last gen resolution, but the fact is that most games this generation didnt even hit that and they certainely didnt run at 60fps! 1080p standard is nice to think about, but Im not sure it is a realistic goal for the devs to hit!

8. Many more new IP's!!

9. STEAM/Origin support

10.Last but not least price point. No matter what is under the hood, MS must learn from Sony's mistakes and not overcharge for technology. I think $399 is the sweet spot for a console.

I agree with these: 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 and also bc to all 360 games.

I dont think point 10. is a problem. MS already did it right this gen with a less expensive but still equally powerful console. something MS could learn from Sony is to not hype it like crazy. Just be reallistic.

Perfect, 100% backwards compatibility with 360 games (bonus for regular Xbox), all the RAM a developer's coding heart could ever desire, and a large variety of games in many genres, old, new, experimental, or otherwise. Make more XBLA compilation discs.

This is never really going to happen. The 360 can do this but at a sacrifice to graphical quality.

A lot of the time these factors are reduced to improve other areas of the game and I can't see that changing.

1080p is probable, but the rest of it will likely vary.

What I said is not fact but this is how I gather it works and am open to being wrong here.

Unlikely to be, I think the only reason they called the the console the 360, is so it has a "3" in the title so it won't be percieved to be under powered compared to the PS "3".

All of the ones you listed are pretty good, but number 10, I don't know. As much as I'd love it to be cheap, I don't want it to come at the cost of the tech. I want my Xbox to have the best GPU it can have, the best CPU it can have, and at least 6gb of RAM. Those things can't be cheap, so unless MS is willing to lose money I'd be fine with a $500 model as well.

Also I'd like it to come WITH a keyboard and mouse and Kinect so we don't have to buy those things separately.

Finally, MS should really loosen up the restrictions. If we're paying for online, then Xbox online shouldn't lose out to things Sony gets PS3 gamers. Things like cross platform play and modding should really be on consoles by now, and at least Sony is making strides to let it happen.

tray drives are cheaper, more tried and tested but I guess the fact PC's still use them mean nothing...I cant even continue so many things that are out of whack about the only thing accurate is bluray.

I absolutely agree with everything you have listed.

The big ones for me are:

The ability to participate in online matches for free is a must. Silver member should have this ability. You can have the option for GOLD which includes all the other features that you can pay for.

Rechargeable controllers, no battery packs

Better disc format [blu ray, etc]

Systems that will not be known the biggest hardware failure in the history of electronics {RROD}

If i still have to pay to play online then im not buying. These are all deal breakers for me.

I want more power and ridiculous specs so Turn 10 can create something out of this world. Look at what they did with the old 360. Now imagine that but X10 more powerful.

The wired 360 controller would solve all those battery issues. Not long enough cable? Use USB extension cables with it. It's far less of a hassle than even having rechargable batteries.

I think they should call it the Xbox 540, just because people could say this:

"Why do they call it the Xbox 540? Because when you see it you turn 540 degrees and walk away"

And it would actually make sense. Though I guess you could moonwalk...

yep but then you have the added benefit of the fact that the battery pack and batteries offer far more playtime then the ps3s built in rechargable by like 40 hours.

ShoTTyMcNaDeS

1. It'll never happen. I'd be happy with 1080p @ 60 fps as the goal, for the forseeable future.

2. Agree. Trays suck.

3. I'd rather have a battery pack that can be replaced, than have the battery permanently soldered into the controller, then you have to buy a while new controller when the battery is wore out. I use a play n charge kit, it works perfect. The controller aspect of the 360 is perfect and I would not change anything except the crappy d-pad.

4.Blu-Ray is too slow for gaming and I watch movies on regular DVD.

5. Xbox Live online and netflix should be free, period. Using your own internet connection peer-to-peer is not a service. They should be investigated and sued for defrauding the public and also fined heavily.

6. Absolutely not. Everybody needs to be on an equal playing field. There is no way to compete with kb/m using your thumbs for aim. If consoles add kb/m, then I drop consoles, period.

7. More like 1080p/60fps minimum. See #1.

8. Hear Hear

9. Uffk Origin. Uffk Steam. Uffk digital.

10. Gotta keep it affordable I guess.

I'll add my requests :

11. Scrap the controller voice comm system, allow people to use an USB headset. PS3 allows this and the voice comms are much much better (louder.) I plug in the crappy 1 ear mic and can barely hear anybody talk, granted I'm a little hard of hearing. Basically I need amplified voice comms without game sounds mixed in so I can communicate.

12. Allow the use of USB peripherals like flight sticks. I want to play Apache Assult but there is no decent flight stick for the 360.

13. XBL interface sucks. PS3 interface is much much better, customizable and no ads. I bought a theme for my 360 and can barely see it behind the Kia ads. XBL looks like korean yellow pages with 8000 ads everywhere. Grotesque. Ugly. Low class.

1. not only it will happen, but it will throw the best gaming PC behind for a good 2-3 years, even at 360's era, it took PC hardware 2 and half years to catch up. still remember playing SC: double agent with GTX7900 SLI with 40 fps and inferior graphic? 1080P is minimum for both next gen consoles, 60 fps is really depend on what kind graphic quality and performance developer pursuit. one thing is for sure, as time pass by as developer learned the hardware of both console, graphic will getting better and game will run faster. hell even 5% ps3 and 360 runs at 1080P.

2. Don't really care

3, I'm pretty satisfied with ps3 controller's battery life, 1 charge for a week gaming, and it only takes 30 mins to charge.

4. at least blue ray or better yet a new medie and a way bigger hard drive

5. that's MS's specialty, it will gets a better interface, better communication system throughout.

6. in case you don't know either 360 and ps3 can be played with MS/Keyboard, but what's the point? I play pc games 90% of time...using a 360 controller.

7. As stated in No.1

8. that's a battle MS and Sony to get third party game maker, but latterly, but MS's in house developing skill is disappointing.

9. I don't see the point, xbox already had a far bettter interface then steam why downgrade to an inferior one? if you mean to buy games with a way larger selections, then I agree and I believe MS will do that

10. lol! at least.

- Ability to swap the HDD

- Same-Day Digital Retail Releases

- Backwards Compatibility with Xbox 360

- Slot-Loading

- Physical Hardware Buttons

- No USB charge (Rechargeable batteries are cheap, and easier to replace)

- 360 to 720 HDD Transfer

- Better Disk Format (BD or HD-DVD equivalent)

TC what is the point of having Silver when Gold is free already? Unless silver will be what everyone banned is allowed to access, afterall they did spend money on their games they should get to play them just not with anyone, silver should have no co-op or LAN options, just your lonely self to show you what an idiot you were for taking the cheap and tacky way out. Everything else seems fine though apart from 10, price was a heavy focus on the 360 and one of the many reasons it trounced the PS3.

I'm not sure I'd ever get it. I'd say the whole 720 experience will be centric to Kinect 2.0. and will probably be competing with the Wii U rather than the PS4.

This is what I am afraid of. Hopefully microsoft has had its fun and will go back to catering to its core audience.

As long as Sony hold several patents regarding Blu-ray technology, you are never going to see a Blu-ray player on a MS console. Unless MS does the unthinkable and pays Sony....

If the next Xbox is focusing on just Kinect, then it would be suicide for them. Nobody's going to give a damn about Kinect anymore by 2013. As a matter of fact, it's slowly dying out already.

If it has to be a powerhouse that can compete with current generation PC's, it's going to cost $1000...because face it or not, a modern console has a big power supply, a CPU, GPU, RAM, a fast Drive and Hard Drive. If they make the 720 affordable for families and young people (a core audience for Microsoft lately), it's going to be only a bit better then current xbox. Of course, they could always let the core audience keep their current 360 and bring out a powerhouse 720 that costs ...$720!!! I'll buy it day 1!!!

1. not only it will happen, but it will throw the best gaming PC behind for a good 2-3 years, even at 360's era, it took PC hardware 2 and half years to catch up. still remember playing SC: double agent with GTX7900 SLI with 40 fps and inferior graphic? 1080P is minimum for both next gen consoles, 60 fps is really depend on what kind graphic quality and performance developer pursuit. one thing is for sure, as time pass by as developer learned the hardware of both console, graphic will getting better and game will run faster. hell even 5% ps3 and 360 runs at 1080P.

you have got to be kidding me.... No it did not take Pc two years to catch up with the 360, Pc had the 7800GTX in 2005 and it was stronger overall then the Xenos (360 gpu). Every multiplat game from 2005 to 2008 a single 7800GTX out did the 360 graphically. And when the Geforce 8's came out in 2006 the consoles bit the dust, and even with newer games with a 8600GT which is slower then a 7800GTX still outdoes the 360 to this day. If you were truely playing Double agent with SLI 7900's you over shot the gpu requirements by 2x. Unless you didnt know what you doing, and also the game was known to be very poorly optminized.

The nest xbox will be using an AMD APU based chipset which means no powerhouse even compared to todays high ended Pc's. People have this idea that the next consoles will out class high end Pc hardware wise and they havent done that since 1994/1995. The next consoles will be an improvement over current consoles but cost will be the major factor and Sony and MS have learned their lesson, Both consoles (units themselves) didnt make a dime for ethier company until years after release. And Sony has already stated that they are not pouring a ton of money into the PS4 R&D.

I'm not sure I'd ever get it. I'd say the whole 720 experience will be centric to Kinect 2.0. and will probably be competing with the Wii U rather than the PS4.

If they make a console as innovative as the Original Xbox, I'll get it day one.

Seeing as how XBL Gold will still be pay-to-play, absolutely no questions asked, I'd like to see a tier in the vein of Playstation Plus introduced.

And new IPs of course, though seeing Microsofts track record as of late, that may be asking a little too much.

I think its pretty clear that ms has become a force in both hardcore and casual gaming.... i seriously dou t they plan to give that up....

They may have been a force in the past but honestly, explain how how have catered to "core" gamers as of late?

I don't know wth you are smoking, first when 360 was released, the best PC video card was GT6800, and GTX7800 come a year after which was still far behind 360 in grpahic deapartment on mutliplatform games, I played just case, spliter cell:DA and Hitman bloody money, COD2 on both system(my PC was 7900GTX) not only PC's frame rate shutter at maxium setting but the texture and ploygon scale are noticeablely inferior to its console counterpart, multi review crtics all stated graphic difference this in their reviews. the only game better on PC back then was elder score IV,

And PC's hardware only pulled ahead until 8800GT's generation, that's about more than 2 years. and mind you, console hardware only getting better and last longer as new gen console come out.

Wrong again buddy Geforce 7800GTX released a few months before the 360 like june . and the Geforce 8's came out in Nov 2006. And I really doubt you had a Geforce 7900 when you played those games because if you did you would have maxed the games with ease, heck I ran CoD 2 on my old Geforce 6600gt at higher resolution and settings then the console version. Unless your cpu was old and slow slowing your whole system down is the only real excuse, And when I had my old Geforce 7600GT it really beat the consoles with multiplat games all the way into my Geforce 8 upgrade which is why Im doubting your claims.

other than the stock answer of Gears3 Forza 4 and the Halo remake id say the same thing ive been saying for months... They developed a new device, and properly supported/supporting it, slowly implimenting it in to core games and seeing where the market takes it. Getting ready for next generation and yet still when you look at the numbers it is still wildly comprable or exceeds the competition in highly rated/quality core games... so to answer the question, what hasent the 360 done for me lately? my disk tray is constantly jammed with great games, my kids love the kinect and the value and entertainment value of the console are through the roof... there really is no other answer...

The wired 360 controller would solve all those battery issues. Not long enough cable? Use USB extension cables with it. It's far less of a hassle than even having rechargable batteries.

WilliamRLBaker

or just buy a play and charge kit out game for a tenner :P

yep but then you have the added benefit of the fact that the battery pack and batteries offer far more playtime then the ps3s built in rechargable by like 40 hours.

All you need is two PS3 controllers plus a USB cable. Then just have one charging from the PS3 while playing with the other, and when you're battery runs low, just switch controllers. No problems.

This is a "disk switch" debate... ie, a stupid fight. Both controlers offer rechargable batteries, both work fine. the end...

Free online gameplay (not going to happen lol)

Rechargeable controllers, no battery packs (don't want to buy it extra) (possible)

Blu Ray (i'm sure this is a given)

I don't think 1080p/60fps is a possibility. If the new technology is used to run todays games then yes. It's like in the PC gaming world: even though your system gets more powerful--so too does the games getting more demanding. the only way 1080p/60fps is possible is if the games sacrifice some of the graphics and/or other areas for performance. I'm looking at 720p native/stable 30fps.

people with blk bg can't see that font dude. For me 720p standard with consistent 60fps would be great.

5. Xbox Live online and netflix should be free, period. Using your own internet connection peer-to-peer is not a service. They should be investigated and sued for defrauding the public and also fined heavily.

---snips---6... "MS could really put a dent in the PC gaming realm"---snips---ShoTTyMcNaDeS
::Looks at foot, contemplates what should be done, shoots it:: MS IS pc gaming, I don't think the actively 'denting' pc gaming is a great idea, their OS is much more cost efficient to distribute than a console.

As long as Sony hold several patents regarding Blu-ray technology, you are never going to see a Blu-ray player on a MS console. Unless MS does the unthinkable and pays Sony....

gensigns

/Facepalm

Don't feel bad. The patents will end in another 10 years or so.

Oh, and just in case think I am out of my mind, here is an older cnet article on the 2nd gen XBOX 360. Near the end they talk about having to pay to license the Blu-ray tech from Sony.

So you want it to compete with "the hottest gaming-PC's" and yet yuo want it to cost about 400$? Hillarious.

They don't pay consumer prices, and they subsidize(software sales, and flat losses) costs, the 360/PS3 were way more to make than they sold for.

IIRC they called it the 360 because of the ring around the on button.

FashionFreak

They called it 360 because HD gaming was a revolution. 360 = revolution

They called it 360 because t had all of your media needs. Games, Movies, Entertainment, Sales, Music.

*laughs*

tray drives are cheaper, more tried and tested but I guess the fact PC's still use them mean nothing...I cant even continue so many things that are out of whack about the only thing accurate is bluray.

WilliamRLBaker

Plus, if My console stops working, How am I going to get the CD out with no Disk Tray to pull open?
