The Xbox Live Arcade does have its fair share of old games. Some are fun to play but some aren't. The good thing about it is that developers actually make news games for the Xbox Live Arcade instead of the Wii Virtual Console where Nintendo just churns out old game after old game just trying to milk money out of sheep. Though some of the games are fun WHO WOULD WANT TO PLAY OLD GAMES WHEN YOU'VE PLAYED THE BEFORE ALREADY?!!?!?

Meh, us Nintendo fans are finally glad that we have a system that hooks up to the internet. But you got to admit, it's pretty cool to play NES, SNES, 64, Genesis and TG-16 games all on one system. Plus, there's the 100 percent full BC with GameCube games. The 360 and PS3 cannot claim that. :)

XBLA games really aren't super-amazingly-great. Hell, PSN has some downloadable games which are really generating some hype (as far as downloadable games go), echochrome, pain, everyday shooter, superstardust HD,and more.

No, XLA may have new and updates games but the sheer volume of retro gaming goodness on the VC destroys it.

I've downloaded more VC games and honestly all my old systems are either in storage, been handed down to younger relativesor no longer working great unfortunately. Having my favorite old school games in one place is also pretty cool. So, imo, VC is better. XBLA is still great though.

WHO WOULD WANT TO PLAY OLD GAMES WHEN YOU'VE PLAYED THE BEFORE ALREADY?!!?!mr-sheep
People who want to play the game again for whatever reason. Perhaps they found it enjoyable and they wish to experience it again, or they feel they didn't give the game a proper shot the first time and wish to try again. Whatever the purpose may be, there is a purpose. Or perhaps there are people who have never played the games before. Surely they are not invalidated because others have played the game before.

Besides, remember that WiiWare, the Wii original game download service is coming out in the next year. Do not think XBLA has a monopoly on original content.

Oh, and Mr Sheep, there's something about your threads that just make me wax poetic. Also, how old is that Virtual Console screenshot? I mean, damn. That has to be around GDC 2006 or so.

You have no idea what the VC is. Seeing as you posted a pic from IGN that was just a theoretical imagining of the interface, you have no clue. That pic was from well before the Wii was released.

And, the Wii will get original downloadable content very soon, thanks.

The Shop channel looks like this FYI

Shop

the VCinterface is integrated into the Wii menu

Menu

The VC exists within the design of the Wii. Its not a seperate function like XBLA.

Just to fill you in.

What happens if somebody has never played these old games? Bottom line the VC games have more quality in them then the XBLA games. You wanna tell me that an XBLA game is on a grander scale then Zelda OOT? Whatever go for it.

One thing for sure is considering it's all old games on the VC for right now, the selection of games sure is slim. Sure they've sprinkled a few Zeldas and Marios on there but wheres my Earthworm Jim and Zombies Ate My Neighbors. They should be dropping 20 games on there a week instead of three or four. But if nothing else the reason XBLA blows away the VC is you can sample the games before you spend any money on them. End of discussion.

Anyone here who has played every single game, to completion, that is available on the Virtual Console, raise your hand. Every person here who has every console that games for the V.C. come from, raise your hand. No one? That's what I thought. I'm tired of the "We've played those games before" argument.

Also, as to original content, it's called "Wii-ware" It was announced at E3, and it's coming soon.

As far as I know, they do have demo's, or at least gameplay videos online, just not right on the V.C.

I agree. We should be able to play a game for free for like 24 hours, then charge to keep. It would not be that hard considering how locked the downloads are to the console.

Nintendo does put up short gameplay vids, though...

When did I say that gameplay videos were better than demos? It's obvious that there are a lot of people in this thread that don't know much about V.C., so I'm just telling people what I know.

That's subjective, really. I think it's good to have both - and there are some top quality and good bargains too be found on both.

Paper Mario 64 is a steal at the asking price, but then Uno is too.

Well I like VC a lot but the Arcade is great because achievments give another reason to play the game, 12 different goals to accomplish.

I can't really decide on which is better.

But can you play all your VC games online with your friends? Can you try before you buy? Where are the original IP's? Next year? We have it all, right now. You have a little, with a promise of later. Welcome to last year.

This is the flaw in the argurment which Nintendo fans need to REALIZE. N64 is my favourite console ever(along with PS2) but cmon, the games they have released on it i own and are not worth $10 each. Also they won't have every GAME...when will peopel understand this? There will only be around 20 N64 games in VC's lifetime and NONE of those will be RARE titles(half of N64's AAA library were RARE games).

IT can't play every SNES game, it can't play every NES game, but only the ones we have played 100 times before. Why not Mario RPG? Crono Trigger? Rare gems that a lot of people missed out on..even then i can play these on emu(legal begal who gives a monkeys). VC is far inferior to XBLA. XBLA has newer titles as well as old titles with added content like Golden Axe online and PoP classic remake. Also has leaderboards which gives a far better sellign point than"omfg a classic".

People think just because it has games like OoT, Super Mario World , Mario 64 it's far superior, well i OWN those games and i'm not blindly buying them again no matter hwo good they are, i don't want to spend $10 just to play it on the Wii...At least bump up the games slightly and add some new features, OoT with slightly better graphics would be something....oh oh wait don't bother Wii has a 512MB flash memory, it probably couldn't even store anything.

I think by 2008 the Virtual console will become a hot property. At the moment Nintendo are stalling all there high quality games and will probably release more of them around there big 3 releases like when Metroid Launches. Metroid on the Snes and Nes will probably be released on the virtual console.

And I think the appeal of the Virtual console is to play the games untouched. I mean I would rather play the original Mario 64 than Mario 64 DS its the nostalgia value.

The thing is, I would much rather play SNES, N64, and genesis greats than any of the new XBLA games.  To be honest, the only XBLA games that really appeal to me are the older games like SOTN an Sonic.  The fact is, the new XBLA games are shallower, time killing games, which they are supposed to be.  Nothing wrong with that.  But I would rather play Mario 64 and Super Metroid any day.

Erm... ever heard of WiiWare TC?

Also I for one am very thankful for the VC, it allows me to take many a nostalgia trip whilst also making games I may have missed easily accessible. It is slightly on the expensive side and we Europeans getthe cruddy PALversions with borders, but other than that the VC is a great achievement.

Also what the hell is that odd interface in your first post? Some sort of IGN mock-up?

Nintendo are doing something like that. You know the place where you download the Wii internet and votes channel from? Devolopers are going to start making shorter games to be sold from there that they think won't do so well in high street retailers.

And remember, lots of people have never owned those consoles or played those games. Now's their chance.

Some people in this topic don't seem to realize that what's on VC now, isn't going to be all they'll ever release. VC games are still being released, and at a pretty good pace.

At a pretty good pace??? Hardly. For as many games as they could release per week during the entire life span of the Wii, 2 or 3 games per week is pitiful. Not to mention now would be a perfect time to be replaying Super Metriod since there aren't many quality Wii games. The VC is one of the main reasons I bought a Wii.........can you imagine my disgust when I fired it up the first time and there was no Super Mario 3? The VC has been a huge letdown so far and in it's current state, I would go so far as saying it sucks.

Hmmm... why would people play old games when you've played them before...

Why would people play new games more than once then? It's called replay value, and some games manage to have replay value despite the age. Probably why games likeHide and Seekstill exist. Have to wonder why there isn't Hide and Seek Xtreme, or Hide, Seek, and Murder out after decades, if not centuries of being in existance right? Right?

Its not fair to compare XBLA against VC. VC has all of nintendo greatest past titles at its disposal plus genesis and other old school games.XBLA has original arcades game and revamped classics.

Once again I disagree............I felt like such a chump sitting in front of my HDTV w/SS with my shinny new "next gen" Nintendo with a pad of paper and a pen drawing pictures of hearts and holy waters so I don't have to start from scratch next time I play Castlevania 4. That's not better or cool, that's a seven dollar trip back to the stone-age of video games.

Actually he is right, the price of some VC games are outrageus.800p for old Sega games?.Some VC games are even in 1000p and you cant even try it before buying it.
