Just thought Id put this out there for people who own a 360, if you plan on reverting to free for any reason or if your account runs out of gold (like mine) you wont be contacting or messaging any of the people on your freinds. My account reverted to silver status yesterday and I needed to message people on my friends list over xbox.com. Well turns out I cant message anyone becasue i am not a gold member. So I guess I am paying to message people now not jsut pay to play? I find it really annoying when companies do this bs behind our back thinking its ok. just thought I would put this out there.

Wut. Didn't know that, though probably most people here do. Can you still message other silver members?

I also like how Microsoft doesn't allow me to use my 4gb flash drive in my 4gb console to download a 2mb file in order to play an original Xbox game through backwards compatibility. Oh no, to download a 2mb file, they force you to own the 250gb harddrive. Microsoft is all about those hidden fees.

Can you even have friends with Silver? I thought Silver was simply for accessing the Game Marketplace.

Well, you get what you pay for... unless we're discussing the price of the ps3, then it's too much money.

It has something to do with disc partitioning actually. The 360 HDD is made to work a similar way as how the HDD for the original Xbox did.

This sounds highly fabricated. Last time I checked, the only communication restricted to Gold was Party Chat. You can still send a message to anyone on your contacts list with Silver.

By the way, I've never heard of messaging not working for Silver members. Pretty sure I've even done it before.

It's only on Xbox.com that you must be gold to send messages, On the console you can message as silve..

Meanwhile over in camp PS3.com noone can send messages even PS+, So don't anyone bring in the "oh no on xbox you pay to chat" crap.

One way around the Xbox.com gold chatting requirement would be to download Tinker (free) and send from there (plus earn some achievements :)); the Gold/Silver feature division doesn't exist on the PC. Any Games for Windows Live-enabled game will work for this, of course, but Tinker has the advantage of being a small free download that runs in windowed mode.

Silver is free because it offers you nothing. Microsoft: "Hey! here take nothing, it's free!"

Well it's still better BS then to gave Gold in access public free APIs which for me is even more BS

Yes MS order you to pay to access same thing that you PC access for free when you click on this link:

https://graph.facebook.com/19292868552 (it's a demo of Facebook API, returning JSON result)

Same goes to Twitter and Last.fm which also give access to API for free

Again, Xbox Live... or should i say 360 sicne any of this services are part of Live, ispretty much looks like this on your internet cable:

Which is main reason why don't like Live very much and why they didnt give you web browser where PS3 and Wii gives you, so they can keep you in illusion that you pay for something (and it works since i feel im theo nly one who see this BS about free APIs)

Thats because Xbox games require a hard drive, and the flash memory in the 4gb model isnt a hard drive. Its not because MS is forcing you to buy a HDD

You can message people with a silver account, not sure what is wrong with your console. Did you get a message saying your account was suspended? Because if you paid with a credit card and didnt authorize auto payments, then you account will be suspended unless you manually switch to a free account. Simple really.

But flash drives and hard drives are formatted differently. Like you can install games and 360 data to those drives because the 360 can format them, game saves and caches for Xbox games were programmed to the xbox and its hard drive, it wont run on a flash drive, which is why you cant copy xbox game saves to a flash drive either. It has to be Xbox or a 360 hard drive that can format that partition. Either way you need a hard drive to cache data as the xbox depended on it being there since it was standard last gen.
