Alright I don't post much on here, but I listen enough to everyone else. Everyone is saying that xbox live is a rip off at $50 a year and are complaining. That's less then 5 dollars a month to play online obviously and not even comparing PSN or Wii $5 a month to play great games online isn't alot, and I'm a poor college student living paycheck to paycheck. If I think it's great PSN is free, if I had a PS3 I think it's a great value, but $5 a month is hardly a dent on my Beer tab. And stop asking for a refund when it does't work like 3 times a year, it happens, nothing is perfect. Something is wrong if you buy a $350 console $60 dollar games and can't shell out $5 a month to play online, bring back empties Once a month and there is the fee.

I don't think people complain about Xbox Live being expensive, it's not. People complain because there is no justifiable reason as to why they charge. Some people say it's because if I wanted to, I could play a Perfect Dark Zero game online right now, while in a few months you might not be able to play Resistance. It could be because of all the content they release. It could also just be Microsoft wanting to make more money.

lol it is pretty sad that the network got screwed up for a few days while PSN got screwed up for 1 day and was fixed. Your paying to play games, download movies, demos, and themes. Also things like ingame menus. PS3 has the demo part, the playing games online part, and themes all for free. Is soon getting in game XMB, a video sharing service(play tv? whats it called again), and home. IMO im glad i bought my ps3 over 360 even if i had to wait a little for it to be as good, because i am enjoying it alot more than i would have a 360.

It's the only online service asking for money. Therefore, should it not by default be the best, most reliable service? Should lag be non-existant? Should down-time be unacceptable, and money refunded when it is unavoidable?

I'd give it a break if i weren't paying for it and already unsure of what that money is even paying for.

when we pay 60$ a game plus tax we should not have to pay to play end of story. We should not have to pay for what comes into the game.

It's not how much it is thats the problem, the problem is that you have to pay. It's the principal of it, really.

You can't change people's opinions. He does not understand the big stink about the xbl fee. I don't understand people's love affair with FF. But that does not mean people are not entitled to there own opinion. Following me.

I personally don't pay for xbox live but xbox live has such a large install base compare to the psn network. I believe even when yu pay for the service, the number of people (many) will bring down the service. I'm sure PSN will have down time if it had the same LARGE install base Live has now. Now people keep complaining about paying for online but not many people complain paying WOW monthly fee (and thats even more!) Thats on the PC (yet PC play online for "free"-well for most games-can be ad supported) I mean it is nothing new to charge for your services. It is the holidays and many people go on live (for kids not at school, college break, and adults off from work) this adds up and it does put a great strain on the servers. Once PSN has a large enough install base, I'm sure we will to start to see the strain. Just enjoy you will be getting somthing in return = ) Happy New YEars to all.

I have to agree with you on this. I really don't see anything that's worth while to have to pay extra after buying a console and paying top dollar for games. The main thing is it's not the very very small amount of money, but it's the whole principal of the fees M$ charges.

What I believe is $50 isn't a ripoff, it's actually a decent deal but what lemmings need to admit is that PSN is a very decent service. Especially for free. And some of the features you get with the $50 live people might not necissarily need to have a great online experiance...

I understand where some people say it is the principle of paying for, and the reasoning for having to pay at all, but i just see so many people complain about it as if it's breaking the bank and I mean it is microsoft, they naturally charge an arm and a leg for everything, at least we arent asked to pay like $100 or so like we do for software.

And yea I do agree that PSN is a good deal, how can you complain about free right? And I am 360 all the way, but I agree PSN being free is a pretty sweet value, no matter what it includes and Whatever features are available it's a good deal. I'm pretty content though that $50 a year isn't bad.

Honestly I think comparing the services can be stupid sometimes since they all follow a different protocol, and were created differently. With PC gaming anyone can host a server, even the player. Sony allows the developers to host their own servers, while Microsoft offers assistance. But yes...there are things on Live I do not buy simply because it's a rip off. Themes are stupid unless they're free; it's astupid picture(PNG, JPG, GIF, whatever).

I'll admit to that. I don't own a PS3 yet, But what Sony plans on bringing to the PSN sounds interesting. I like the idea that I can still play Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge online even if only 7 people still play it. And games on Sony's platform that have a online component are only going to be alive as long as there's a sizeable player base sometimes. God. A couple of my friends and I still play Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II with the SBX mod online together, and that game released a long time ago on the PC it seems. Sony does have a good online network.

Xbox live is paid for Yearly as well people...not monthly. You can break up the price into monthly fees but the fact remains that it still is only charged by the year. So, no, it's not a monthly fee and stop quoting it as one.

Too bad XBL has been down for like a week now. I've been trying to recover my Gamertag all day. I just got my 360 back, and I only keeping it for exclusives. I'm definitely staying silver, but I might go gold a few months here and there.

It's not the fact that it costs too much money, it's the principle of paying for something unreliable and laggy. If I am paying $50 a year, I should be able to have lagless multiplayer. And right now, I can't even log onto Live. If I am paying for a service, shouldn't my money go toward ensuring the service is reliable, not that MS employees get their paychecks and consumers get the short end of the stick?

[QUOTE="munu9"]What I believe is $50 isn't a ripoff, it's actually a decent deal but what lemmings need to admit is that PSN is a very decent service. Especially for free. And some of the features you get with the $50 live people might not necissarily need to have a great online experiance... NeoGen85

As long as someone owns a server for the game, then you should be able to play it on PSN. And well..if it doesn't have anymore servers (like ricochet...if u havent heard it...thats why) then it doesnt have one for a good reason.

I also don't like paying for Xbox Live...

I only have a couple months left on my subscription and I want to cancel it so that I do not get charged another $50 come renew time.

Anyone know of a method besides calling them...? I hate talking to people... Or perhaps if you HAVE called them what did you need to do?

You think with that 50 bucks a year they could keep Xbox live going during the holidays.

Thanks microsoft.
