Haven't upgraded in nearly two years, and I don't see a need to upgrade in the near future.

Microsoft Security Essentials is free.

Because it doesn't cost 1000 pound for a decent rig and endless upgrades to keep it up.

There's a lot of free security suites out there.

You are also failing to factor in quality. Dedicated servers >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> p2p.

Live is a turd, and no one should pay for a turd.

So then by your logic and by default, PSN is better then Xbox Live because online gaming is Free and has dedicated servers for most first party games.

pc gaming.

£550+ for a decent gaming pc.

then you need all the upgrades to stay relevant,eg cards and memory etc.-£100 every three years

constant need for security against hackers and modders which costs extra. free. if your not an idiot you won't need it.

xbox live.

£250 for latest 360 with 250gb of memory included. I

£25-£30 a year for quality online service which includes everything you need to meet your gaming requirements, social and lone wolf players catered for.

£250 replacement xbox :P.

Have to pay for multiple accounts for multiple people, and the reason I don't have 2 xbox's is because of the xbl fee. also have to share account with my younger brother.

And everyone knows that pc gaming has a higher upfront cost, and a general cost really (besides the games) THATS why people go to consoles (or they don't know pc gaming exists and don't care for it)

this is what it is like realistically.

My pc was a little above $1000 and it far exceeds what would be considered a "decent" pc. I won't have to upgrade my pc for a long time

Hahahahahah oh wow. He's serious. I've been playing on for, hm, 15 years now? I'm still yet to find anything remotely as good as what the PC offers in terms of online capabilites, nor has 'paying for security' ever been an issue. For all those years I've also had the amazing ability to play my games online, out of the box, and not lose functionality if I don't pay a yearly $100 AUD subscription fee.

You can get a good enough pc for under £400 and you do not need to upgrade in order to maintain the same graphic level as a console. You can think of it like this: if you have a gaming pc it will also double as your personal computer so you save money by not having to also buy a personal computer. Plus the games are much cheaper. Plus the online is free.

Microsoft has spend millions of dollars to convince people that Live, and by extension p2p gaming, is not only good enough but better (laughable). There is no opposing voice in the media to counter that.

-No you don't

-No you don't

-No you don't

-Buy the 4GB model and get a 1TB for the same price

-50-60 bucks a year for the exact same experience (WITH ADS STILL) as PC and PS3 get, but they get it for free. Actually, PC gets far more for free.

Because Xbox Live is a rip-off compared to any form of online gaming.

pc gaming.

£1000+ for a decent gaming pc.(although this figure can severely multiply). Ok, this is just...wow...it cost $600 to make a mid range gaming computer $800 is high end and anything more is enthusiast.

then you need all the upgrades to stay relevant,eg cards and memory etc.-£100's pa Another misconception, most people who made a gaming computer in 2007 have not upgraded since, and to top it all off they will still get much better performance than a console.

constant need for security against hackers and modders which costs extra.£20-£60 pa Now you are just grabbing at anything. The majority of anti virus are free, and many of them are good.

xbox live.

£250 for latest 360 with 250gb of memory included.

£25-£30 a year for quality online service which includes everything you need to meet your gaming requirements, social and lone wolf players catered for.

I dont know what your standards are but they are obviously much below mine if you think xbox live is a good service. Pay for a service and they still spam you with ads...Social really? Can you browse the internet, go on gamespot? No. How is a lone wolf player catered to? What if that person wants someone to play with online because his real life friends are smart and play on the computer? Xbox Live doesn't encourage community.

why do hermits think that xbox live is a rip-off in comparison to online pc gaming.

Simple, we get better services for FREE.

Pc Gaming

Decent gaming PC $700. Could easily build a relevant one for $600. A budget one would cost $500-550 and would still spank a console.

Upgrade once every 3-4 years = $200

Free excellent security suites. Hackers are a non issue in most games.

Total $700-900 tops over one gen

XBOX 360

$299 Console

xbox live gold $250 since launch

Possible replacement xbox if you bought one from 2005-2009=$299

Total $550-850.

But heres the catch. PC, better graphics, arguably better games, mods, support for every perhipital out there, customizability, upgradeability, multiple uses not just gaming etc etc. I see no value in getting a 360.

1) It does NOT take 1000 dollars to get a decent computer. I built a computer with core i5, gtx 460, and 4gb ram, that is far superior to console hardware, for under 600 USD, And my computer can do much more than play games.

2) You DO NOT have to upgrade every six months. Every 3-4 years for a new GPU (just like a console gen) will keep you at the higher end. If your card is outdated, you will still be able to play games on lower settings. Just because a newer peice of hardware comes out, it doesnt mean you have to buy it, nor does it mean your current setup will cease to function.

3) There are hoards of free internet security suites. AVG, Avast, MSE. All free, and fully funcational.

Xbox- you have to buy the console for 300 USD, buy games for at least 10 dollars more than PC, and then the worst offense of all, purchase Xbox live for 40-60 dollars EVERY YEAR, and what do you get with that extra money? A bunch of ads and "features" that are free on other platforms. Xbox live charges you for something that should be yours free. After all you pay for that internet connection. It's just not until you pay even more that a third party lets you access it. You should have the right to use and access everything on the internet at no extra cost, but MS charges you money and people still buy it. How is that a better deal?

TOTALLY wrong. I mean really, a "decent" pc would be about $500-900. Actually, you could even get better for that much.

Thats probably because you didnt buy a "decent" pc or are very sensitive over "bad" graphics.

That is wrong on so many levels. You dont need to buy "protection from hackers and modders". You need anti virus, and thats for gamers AND non-gamers.

my logic would suggest psn is better valuebut that is missing the point completely, some hermits go on and on about xbox live being a rip-off but in doing so selectively forget how much pc gaming costs for basically the same thing, which i find hilarious btw.

ps: for all you people suggesting a £550 gaming pc will last more than six months in todays industry without spending more are loco and second hand pc's don't count...unless you include second hand consoles...then you could have psn and gold membership for the price of a pc which doesn't helpn your argument at all does it.

I bought a $550 PC in 2009 and guess what? It still works, and better yet, still plays most games better than a console at a higher resolution. Thats a lot longer than 6 months. I also haven't spent a dime on upgrades. And a $550 PC today would spank my PC. Flawed argument is flawed.

For me, I also do all my internet and all other computer stuff on the same PC I game on. That adds a lot of value to my preferred platform. I'd have to buy a PC anyway if I only had an XBox 360. I wouldn't use a console as my primary medium for posting here. Beats me why cost comparisons do not take that into account.

Pc gaming console gaming are all expensive.

60$ for comsole games

Pc games raising to $60

Thing is why pay $60 when you can get about 3 games for same amout

No matter what system your on your still paying a ton of money. The console is probably the cheapest thing you buy with all the games you might buy

sorry but i can't believe some of you are suggesting that building your own pc to keep it cheap is a viable option for most people, how many people have the time and no-how to build a pc and also investing all that time and money to actually build the thing yourself just makes it even more of a rip-off

How long do you think it takes to build a computer? Typically it's a few hours... Who doesn't have that time?

You could just get a small store to piece it together for less than $50 most of the time.
