Too bad PC still wins.

Steam is the best, but PC gaming is just for guys like me and you, its not the reality IMO. Anyway, Live is definitely the trendsetter. Hard to compare, Steam is more of a website and the other is more of a media center.

What we need is an OS for gamers which is basically a dumbed down windows with Live funcionality. Less system resource used and more gaming goodness.

No point talking about MMO then throwing in the free part. Those 23 million paid users did NOT pay because XBL is so good, they paid because its the only way to play their Halo3's. Gears etc online. If online play is available on silver accounts, I'm betting that 23 million will drop BIG time. Also its FASTER!!! Ok,but you have to pay for internet and 50 extra to use live. I personally dont think live is worth my 50 bones. Had it for a while and no need to go back. I have nothing against those who do pay though.

For what? For game updates it is much faster, but download speeds are about the same for me. Only game I played online was the Reach beta, but both systems are mainly p2p so that is mostly the same.

yeah well its well known many PS3 users like myself have a problem with getting really slow download speeds on PSN, its not fixed, I have a 35/35 meg conenection tested and I get at most a 7mb/2mb speed on the tester. It runs like it too cause my LIVE is 4 times faster.

Ah, that sucks. I get a consistent 1.5mb/s on PSN, XBL, and Steam. I would hate to have inconsistent speeds.

Ok...(I'm stupidly tired, sorry if I'm just rambling :P) but I'm looking at XBL as a platform, and Steam as a platform too. But tbh, (and this is rare) it's pretty stupid to try and compare it to Steam when they're both trying to do different things.[QUOTE="Ravensmash"][QUOTE="ferret-gamer"] steam has all the features that xbl has and is free. plus the epic 700 game sale going on right now. ferret-gamer

What do you mean XBL is 10x faster than PSN's? In my opinion, XBL is better than PSN by a very small margin and that is "party chat" or "cross game chat" which I believe is not worth $50.Considering xbox live services are all copies of something that was available on PC including online multiplayer, I would say that PC is in fact the trend setter.

So XBL is superior because of the download speed? that is a minor difference. Only 2 to 4 minutes difference in download time. Is that really big of a deal? Is that the reason why you pay for XBL?Yes it is.to bad online gaming really isnot that big of a factor yet in the video game industry

I just got another year of XBL, but my account is corrupt and I can't recover it because I need the password to my msn that's linked to it...
I'm currently in a battle with microsoft support to get them to reset my password, yet they keep saying I don't have enough proof
i don't know or care about trendsetting all i care about is if some jerk gets busted lag switching, cheating or exploiting they get banned and are out $50.

Right. Let's make it clear. Valve is not the Windows, OSX, Mac or PC platform holder. There is no standard. Competition exists on those platforms. There are PC-centric conventions and business models that have been in place for over two decades that almost require Steam to be free or fail against other providers.
So no, a Steam/XBL comparison is not apples to apples.
