There is no equal to Live.

Personally, I do not like the idea of paying $50 for multiplayer access. However, you have to give credit where is it due; there is no other console that offers what Live does.

Nintendo's online is a joke. And Sony's is MIA. Yeah, I get it, Home will "pwn" and it will be for free - ok, sure.

None the less, a lot of you said Live will get "destroyed" since a competitor will come out with something like Live and it will be for free. No such thing has happened. And there is no set schedule or news about anything of that nature.

i didnt realize how far ahead live is of psn until i bought a ps3. now i know $50 is worth it. but still love my ps3 though. too bad it acts more as a movie player than a game machine. oh well good to have an elite as well i guess.

I agree!

No other console has the balls to monopolize the online gaming with so many heavy restrictions, peer to peer online, and make you pay a fee.

Microsoft is unrivaled on business tactics and brainwashing.

Indeed it does; however i'm not sure you can really count that, as he's comparing online services on consoles, and PC has no "online service". Each game has it's own online which can be either awesome or awful. But mostly awesome.

Alright. For consoles, Live is pretty much top notch. What does bring it down a bit is the price.

Also, I agree. From someone who has both consoles, Sony has a long way to go before PSN is as feature packed and easy to use as XBL. They also need to sort out whatever issues they have with Europe, because the content on the European PSN store is a grade A joke.

XBL is totally overrated. Steam provides the same thing and much more for free. PSN isn't even bad aside from the poor integration. Once Home is out the only thing XBL will be better than is Nintendo's pathetic joke for an online system.

funny thing is sony is still matching live 1 when MS is already working on their next live system. and yet people act like it doesnt matter. just like sony said about online games when MS included it with every xbox.

How can you possibly monopolise online gaming? :| Or did you just throw in a nasty word to criticise microsoft? Seriously; explain how it is physically possible to monopolise something which is basically playing games over the internet. And what restrictions do you speak of? Other than the fact that it's a closed platform which self-governs? Isn't that what makes it work so brilliantly? The only drawback being obviously that for now, there dosen't seem to be a way to get user-created content out there - with the exception of XNA - because that would require the platform to be open and the entire structure of the service would collapse in that case. So obviously stuff like mods can only be used if microsoft test and approve all of them, which again obviously cant happen. It's a dilemma.

Xfire isn't up to scratch with Live if you ask me. It doesn't really offer the same stuff at all. It's more or less a nice little way of combining your stats from various games. I'd hardly call that an online service. Dont get me wrong, i love XFire. I wouldn't criticise it at all. I just wouldn't compare it to xbox live.

And the same goes for Steam. Me and some guys were talking about this a few days ago; how does Steam compare to xbox live at all? Not in terms of quality, but just in terms of them being in any way the same thing? :?

steam says hi. And don't bring up the movies I can get those directly to my hardrive for way cheaper than XBL,or I can pirate them.stephant_6

And my OP says HI as well.

I did say CONSOLES.

Perhaps you should make a thread on how great Steam is? Thats what it looks like you want to say. Go ahead, if you can post in my thread, you can make one yourself! Try it!!

Perhaps it's misleading, but you can't tell me I could walk away from the OP without the impression the TC was trying to argue that XBL was the best online service on the market. If anything, "there is no other console that offers what Live does," is only a more supreme failure because it does not support the topic line which is the argument the TC should be supporting in the first place....

You could consider that a piece of evidence which could be considered a straw man against the PC with a false warrant.

True. Xbox Live is the best and I mean the best online gaming service and community for any console out in the market right now! Even though $50 to play online for 13 months is my only gripe. They need to either bring the price down or make it free! But who knows if making Xbox Live free might downgrade the service. But I doubt it'll downgrade to PSN and Wii online levels.

BobHipJames

Warhawk has dedicated servers. Resistance has them, but only if you're playing with the full complement of 40 players. And then there's... er.... i'm sure there's something else.

Regardless; barely any games at all use dedicated servers. Dont act like you're getting them with every game. In fact, C&C3 and LotR on Xbox Live have them too. Again; such a small number of games, you'd never hear people bragging about it. I dont see why cows do with PSN.

As for user generated content. I'd have to agree that that is xbox live's one big downfall right now. The closed platform dosent really allow for it. Though you could say that XNA makes up for that, until microsoft finds a way to make mods possible. It's at least good to know that they're working on it.

So yeah, i'm going to have to conclude that your previous post was pretty much entirely incorrect.

Shadowrun is ok,but don't even mention that sorry excuse for a battlefield game, and the sad battlefield rip-off that is frontlines. Battlefiled 2 is the real deal. If LIVE had dedicated servers for games people played,it would matter. But i Halo 3 and CoD4,it's just laggy matchmaking.

Nay, it's a service which allows you to buy games digitally and keep track of friends and stats in one place. It's hardly the same thing as a service which allows you to play games online through one infastructure.

Again - steam is fantastic. If i had to give up steam or xbox live, i'd give up xbox live. But i would never compare the two in the first place. It's like comparing an apartment to a house; they're both similar, but completely different at the same time.

So you're basically admitting that you posted based purely off the topic title without reading the post at all; and you're blaming him for the fact that your post turned out to be somewhat irrelevant?

You have to read an opinion before you can respond to it. Dont just dive in with an arguement.

Why are you excluding the PC? Just because we get a better online service for free doesn't mean you have to exclude us. Of course Live will dominate consoles, but it can't touch the PC.

Steam, newb. Not to mention PSN's occasional dedicated servers, far superior user-generated content services, and the upcoming Home....

Tell me exactly why Live is superior to every online service in the market and I'll stand here prepared to rip your argument to shreds. Thank you.

BobHipJames

Hey, remember this part of my thread: "there is no other console that offers what Live does."

The only thing that is ripped to shreds is your brain.

Please try and make a topic line that isn't misleading.

I'll take your point as a concession that Steam is superior to XBL.

so you're basically saying you dont read the thread, just reply to the title.

[QUOTE="-HalleR-"]

its a serverice that offers ingame xmb, profile, dlc... pretty much what live does, but a couple other things. Ninja-Hippo

It's like comparing an apartment to a house; they're both similar, but completely different at the same time.

...Huh? Don't Steam games like CS and TF2 use Steam's online?

You're 100% right.

...for now.

Steam>>>>>>>>>>>>>Live.

"there is no other console that offers what Live does"

Learn to read:)

Also, I agree. From someone who has both consoles, Sony has a long way to go before PSN is as feature packed and easy to use as XBL. They also need to sort out whatever issues they have with Europe, because the content on the European PSN store is a grade A joke.

Read the title.

Unlike you, i dont barge into a thread in complete fanboy mode having read the just the title and post **** like "Steam says Hi."

I read the topic, see what the OP has to say. If you had've done that too you'd have noticed that he was comparing online services for games consoles. Notice the mention of PSN and Wii online, but no mention of anything at all PC related?

You cant even compare PC to consoles in terms of online gaming as the PC has no online service. Like i said, each game has it's own system of online. That system can be great, or it can blow. Most of the time, it's great. But you're playing a game; not a service. Granted there are some online services like Steam which integrate more than one game, but they hardly encompass PC gaming.

You're asking me if Valve games use Valve's online setup? :|

to all those who didnt read the thread and just gave the generic answer that they would to any thread with xbl mentioned in the title.

I see what you are saying as the TC specifically said consoles but the PC gamers here don't like to be excluded.

You could consider that a piece of evidence which could be considered a straw man against the PC with a false warrant.

1) Title mentions a CONSOLE.

2) Original post states for CONSOLES.

3) Two other CONSOLES are mentioned in the original post.

4) NO WHERE does it mentions PCs.
