I have had an Xbox since launch, and then the 360. I just got aPS3 for Christmas, and after 2 weeks with it, I don't see myself renewing my live sub when it is done next month. I don't see why you would pay for something that is free on another console. Been playing Blackops, and Medal of Honor online, with no problems at all.

To me it is amazing that MS has been able to get the fee for live, when it is free on PSN.(I was a beta tester for live, so I have had it since it started, which means I have paid $400 to M$ for the ability to play online.) Just goes to show you how brainwashed people can become by good marketing.

Nice, that comment makes you look like a PC elitist.

On topic, XBL is better but not $60 better. Probably like $5 better:P

Still like XBox Live better as it still has more content and better features overall. Downloading and updates are still faster. Live members till get most demos before PSN. The PSN members have to pay to get demos faster. I don't care for Qore, Playstaion + or HOME. Doesn't do anything for me in the least. Sony puts all this crap out there to try and make money to support PSN. Microsoft doesn't have that problem. The reason they have more content and better service is because they are getting paid every month with subscriptions. I just wish they would use some of that money to create more game development studios.

Believe it or not, you've actually paid a lot more to your ISP provider. PSN is ok for online gaming, but everything else is pretty mediocre. Many of their games you can't demo before you purchase. Many of them still don't have trophies. You get what you pay for, truly.

No the value part is something you lemmings make yourself believe to feel better about the fact you are forced to pay $60 to play your games online while it's free everywhere else. There is no value in gold it's just MS forcing you to pay if you want to play your games online or use the features which are also free everywhere else.

So you pay $60 dollars to have a demo of a game? Yeah real value right there.

Wait, aren't you one of the ones normally normally complaining about the xbl vs psn threads?

Anyway. XBL (Gold) mostly just sells you access to a lot of things you already pay for or are free to begin with, Facebook, Last.fm, ESPN3.com, Twitter, streaming Netflix movies, online portion of games; all of these things are either free to anyone with internet (facebook, twitter, last.fm, etc) or you already pay for (netflix has its own subscription cost, espn3.com is part of your ISP's subscription, online portion of game is included when you buy the game). PSN offers pretty much all the same features, along with some that Live doesn't have, without feeling the need to charge you extra for them.

I never said it had value, did i?;) I was pointing out your extreme hate of MS. But i actually use Live. I bet you've never used it ( or let me guess, you went to a friends house) & use Windows OS, which is ironic because MS makes Windows.

Ditto(except for being paid up until 2013). I put a premium on the party system, cross game invites, their community managers and policy enforcment staff. Mileage will vary for people, but those are the things I like about XBL.

PSN. Been using it for 3 years for the content and multiplayer. Been able to use my brother in laws Xbox Live account also. There is no difference. Both have features and games. Only difference is cross game chat, and having to pay $60 to access all of your game.

Doesn't matter what the fee is too me. I have never payed more then $35 a year for live. Live is vastly better and I play on both. I'd say its more like the differance between a Honda (PSN)and an Acura (XBL). I would rather pay a little to play on the vastly better service. Anyone saying PSN = XBL doesn't play on both. Its not close.

Yes, everyone has to pay their ISP. It has become almost as necessary as paying for the electric bill in this day and age. So if I am paying my ISP, then why are we paying for Live? What exactly are we paying for? All of the content can be accessed for free on the other consoles, and from a computer, so why the $60 fee?

If you can lead me to a free ISP, I would sign up in a heartbeat, as I am pretty sure most of us would.

I dont get it though, what is the difference that YOU pay for, like, are you payng 30-60 dollars a year just for Cross game chat, cause that is all i see that is better about Xbox Live, and ESPN. But its opinions so dont matta

Sure. Except in this case, the Honda Civic is free, and has almost every feature the Ferrari has, while the ferrari makes you pay a subscription just to access things you already bought.

For all intents and purposes,

XBOX LIVE has better chat features.

PSN, however is free to play games online.

Other than that, the fundamental difference between the 2 services is the same

Since when does someone "buy" a tax, unless you just miswrote. I mean, that's like walking into the IRS department and saying "Hey guys! I'd like you to slap me with another yearly federal income tax if you don't mind."

IRS: "Daaahhh...Sure! Happy to oblige." ;)

Don't worry about it. Some times it's hard to understand what people from the UK are saying, they don't speak English very well. ;)

here's everything you need to know about the xbl debate in sw:

if you bought a $400 gfx card, a $250 gt5 wheel, replaced your sixaxis controllers for $55 a pop with ds3's, paid $60 for mass effect 2 when the 360 version is $15, or ever spent so much as one penny more to get a slightly better experence it is totally justified.

if you spent money on a better online experence with xbl you are a dirty stupid wasteful little **** who is happy to fund microsofts greed and you deserve to die because you are personally responcable for bringing gaming down by being a profanity spewing 13 year old screaming racist punk.

if you spent money on a better online experence with xbl you are a dirty stupid wasteful little **** who is happy to fund microsofts greed and you deserve to die because you are personally responcable for bringing gaming down by being a profanity spewing 13 year old screaming racist punk.

XBL is more streamlined and more integrated into the games and the console. It has more features, more online game, DLC and video content, not to mention faster download speeds and a higher population of gamers. Whether you think that is worth the $3 a month is up to you. I think it is.

PSN. Been using it for 3 years for the content and multiplayer. Been able to use my brother in laws Xbox Live account also. There is no difference. Both have features and games. Only difference is cross game chat, and having to pay $60 to access all of your game.

TheMoreYouOwn

And universal mute, universal prefer, universal avoid, universal friends list, achievements for all games integrated (no loading), Tru Skill ranking and match making, Voice messages, private chat, video chat...

When you buy that Honda Civic, do you have to also purchase a yearly service fee to use the ac?

Snakemaster9

Doesn't matter what the fee is too me. I have never payed more then $35 a year for live. Live is vastly better and I play on both. I'd say its more like the differance between a Honda (PSN)and an Acura (XBL). I would rather pay a little to play on the vastly better service. Anyone saying PSN = XBL doesn't play on both. Its not close.

I dont get it though, what is the difference that YOU pay for, like, are you payng 30-60 dollars a year just for Cross game chat, cause that is all i see that is better about Xbox Live, and ESPN. But its opinions so dont matta

If you want the honest truth I doubt your going to find it because it's painfully obvious that most people here only have one system and are just lying.

I got a PS3 earlier this year and I have been paying for Live for about 3 years, I still have about 4 months lfet on my gold account ane I will NOT be renewing it. Especially since I play on Steam now aswell.

Both are the SAME, only difference is that Live has cross/party chat and PSN has game sharing and a web browser. MS has no reason to charge you, xbox live is all p2p and costs MS nothing to maintain. Most PSN games are p2p aswell BUT there 1st party games all have dedicated servers.

The only real reason why people pay for Xbox Live is because they only have 1 console and thus have no other choice. Or their friends are on Live, other than that no person would pay for it.

The only thing you need to play online is just high-speed internet, if you already pay for your ISP than there is NO reson to charge for online play, especially when your just playing off someone else's internet (p2p).

Also bear in mind that there are ADS on the Xbox Live dashboard ranging from Car Ads to Deodarant! Imagine how much MS makes from those alone, then ask why would they need to charge? The answer is they DON'T

There is also something called Steam that is ran by Valve and it has MORE features than Xbox Live and PSN combined. But guess what? Steam is FREE!

Both Sony and Valve are smaller companies compared to MS but they still manage to have an equal (or better in Steams case) online service that's FREE.

Almost everything you mentioned were trivial features.

The only ones that weren't are the chat/messages, which I admit are better than the PS3, but the PS3 does support chat features...it's just better on 360.

Btw...PS3 also has video chat, and has had it for quite some time.

What do you mean by universal friends list?

And what do you mean by universal mute?

Pay 2 play online I will (hopefully) never support, infact, if 360 did have free online, I'd probably have a 360 right now. Oh well, your loss MS
