Just a quick question, I was watching the Killzone 2 preview on GT and they say it will have 64 online player support.

Whilst I can understand the argument that this can lead to a unholy mess at times I also am glad that PSN offer this option. Do X-box players feel let down down Microsoft for charging them for live and at the same time do not offering dedicated servers for the option of games above 18 players?

..There *are* games on Live that use Dedication servers. It seems to be a common thing on here to think every game on PSN is on a dedicated server and every Live game isn't.

That's 100% wrong. While there are more dedicated servers on PSN there are still some on XBL. Do i feel cheated? Yeah i do, I don't currently have gold because R2 online is so much fun and Gears 2 multiplayer went a different route to the first and not a route i liked (switched out from being a small team tactical game to a run and gun luck fest).

A lot of people seem to give Microsoft a free pass for this, but they are a disappointment. It is lame how Live has so few dedicated servers, the few it does have are from 3rd party games, not games that MS themselves own or publish. I may stop paying for XBL soon, haven't decided yet.

XBL could have just as many people as PSN, but MS is too cheap (for wat ever reason) to host their games on dedicated servers. I mean come on MS. Sony is in last place and they have the decency to give you free Online gaming WITH dedicated servers for all their first party (and 2nd party) games. I dont care what fanboy faction you belong to, but you have to admit thats a bit lame.

Um...gears of war 1 was the exact same way there is no strategy in it I've seen much more often then not games decend into wall bounce shotgun fests then any sort of strategy, strategy is in the eye of the beholder, Im in gears of war 2 games guardian and i hang back allowing my team mates place smoke grenades on my positon or near by, as i get other grenades either ink which i tag onto walls just after or before smoke grenades so enemies are knocked down in the deadly mist thus killing them, the same with frag grenades place them beyond or ontop so that if the enemy does get past them with a role they are either thrown back into the explosion or are knocked down by the smoke so i can kill them, Usually a person will stay behind as my backup as my other team mates go forth to take out the enemy leader....yeah thats called..A strategy but to think that gears of war 1 is any more strategic then 2 is just silly since Glitching and shotgun usage have been made an art by most users on gears of war 1 since they never fixed the iffy wall bounce shotgun.

blame the developers they have even instance and choice to run dedicated servers and probably for less then it would cost to run ps3 psn dedicated servers but they choose not to on xbox live.

^^This. Gametrailers got it wrong, God knows how they did but it's incorrect. Only 32 players in Killzone 2. Personally, it's the lack of dedicated servers that bothers me. Although every game being ****ing smooth like Resistance 2 would be amazing, it's games like Gears of War 1+2 with bogus online. More to do with the developers than the service, but if it counts the smoothest online gaming I've had this generation has been on the PS3.

I've always defended Live, but after playing Resistance 2 online, I can honestly say for the money spent, MS needs to have dedicated servers. I still prefer XBL to PSN though due to being better integrated and having more options that are standard among all the games on 360.

Live does not limit the number of players. The developers limit the number of players.

64 players is too much -- Even in Resistance 2 when I played a 60 player match at a friends I felt it was too hectic. At most I like a 20 player match in a FPS -- 10 on each side -- even those sometimes I feel are too big.

It usually depends on the size of maps really. Something like 10 players on COD4 is way too hectic.

Really? I didn't think Resistance 2's 60 player MP appeared hectic at all. I though Insomniac did a great job in breaking up the teams into 5 person units.

Could you order the card from Amazon and then just use it in Canada? I would think it would work, but who knows.

Id rather have P2P than dedicated servers. Main reason is that the developer can choose to shut down online when it no longer becomes cost effective for them, meaning no more online for that game, i dont care how big the community is. We saw alot of that at the start of this gen where sony were shutting down servers for PS2 games, and MS did it for the games that had dedicated servers. but with Halo 2, it still works. And people are still online playing it. because its not on a server.
