If old, lock it super. http://www.dailygame.net/videogames/microsoft/xbox-one-news/xbox-one-backwards-compatibility-still-possible-says-rep [Quote=""]During a recent visit to a Microsoft Store, we asked the Xbox One sales lead about many of the consoles features and games. Most of our 30-minute interview saw the rep sticking to the talking points weve all heard by now, with one notable exception: Xbox One backwards compatibility. I know some parts of the E3 presentation got a lot of flak, but I dont think everythings set in stone, said the sales lead, who wished to remain unnamed. [Publisher's note: our writer shared with me a scan of the rep's business card; the source is legitimate.] Ive heard the backwards compatibility thing is still being ironed out and might happen. So dont count on the answer being a firm no just yet. Theyve really been listening to feedback, and that includes backwards compatibility for Xbox One.

He later mentions that even if this doesn't come to fruition, you can still play your old 360 games on your X1 by hooking up your 360 to your X1. :P IMO, BC would be worth the extra $100.

It means that I can get money for my 360 but still play 360 games on my new console.

Maybe the Arcade games but the the full retail titles? I highly doubt that just on grounds that emulation requires a machine to be many times more powerful than the original box.

I don't see how someone who's employed at a retail Microsoft store (and my guess, only a hourly paid sales lead) could make such a credible call like that.

They aren't. This is game "journalism" at it's finest. In line with asking a Wal-Mart cashier about the corporation's global strategy for the 2014 sales year.

PC does not have BC..... PC platform didn't change to need something like that, theoretically you can run any software ever made for 32-bit PC on any PC. Ofcorse there system compatibility issues but that's matter of software setup and on Linux you can really run really old software there as there hardly anything removed from the Linux kernel

I never said PC did. However, any game I buy on steam will still be playable on any future PC build I do which is effectively BC. Whereas all of my 360 games and arcade games will not be playable on the X1.

I dig BC. I like having less clutter by not having old consoles around, but still being able to play old games. Hope it happens.

Either the retail Microsoft guy had some pretty amazing connections, or games journalism companies walked into a random store and paid off some guy to say something so they can make a story out of it.

Honestly, the only reason I want BC is bc of GTA V. It sucks that this game is coming out so late in the gen. If MS could figure a way to get that game to work on XBONE I would be grateful.

Why does everyone care so much about backwards compatibility? I think it is a huge waste of time when you consider that you had 6, 7 even 8 years to play all of the games on the old console. Why would you want to play old games on a new console.

As someone who is developing games for next-gen, I haven't heard anything regarding this potential feature set being added onto the X1. Now, a SOC solution is definitely out of the question, so the only means would be through emulation (as seen on the 360).

It would probably be for a very select number of titles, and if the emulatioin support that the 360 gave to the OG Xbox is any indication, I imagine it'll stop being actively supported within 12 months. Also, with the gamestop deal in place for trade-ins of 360 games towards X1 versions lands the X1 game at $9.99, I don't know why MS would even bother.

I... don't even know what that means. Is that an insult? Should I not post on forums or something? The only reason I decided to post on here again is because when I was going through school on my way to entering the industry, I used to follow this board closely. I thought i'd take a little time and give back where I could.

If they included BC, that'd be a pretty good move which could easily sway the public opinion for the better.

It would also bring out some fine damage control here on SW... "buh buh Gaikai!" :P

Depends on if it's a corp store or a regular store. If it does happen the Xbox one will get tons of points. It's best to wait till release. around 3 months left!

Yea but if it is backwards compatible, i get to put my 360 on ebay... and probably get at least 50 bucks out of it. Which in turn makes the xbox one effectively $50 cheaper.

This could be a strategy to obstruct people like myself who have no plan or desire to buy one but still want to use their 360. I mean I don't see any other reason why your 360 and XO would be connectable.
