Xbox One Lineup In 2017 Will Not Be Defined By Halo/Gears, Phil Spencer Says

I find this super interesting, personally- not the MechWarrior answer, Phil Spencer answers each question with that template. But I do find his assertion that 2017's game lineup for Xbox will not be led by Halo or Gears potentially exciting- does this mean that there are some new IPs (or new revivals of old IPs, which would be almost as exciting) in the works for Xbox after all?

I cannot wait to see what Microsoft announces come E3.

No they don't. Not unless its Halo, Gears or Forza. Everything else either gets delayed for years (Quantum Break, Cuphead, Below, Crackdown 3) or cancelled (Scalebound, Fable Legends, Phantom Dust).

The games I'm looking forward to most on Xbox One this year are new IPs. :)

I guess he can say this because there is no Gears or Halo game this year? (beside Halo Wars 2). So that just leaves Forza. Sea of Thieves is their other big title.

Funny thing is I'm sure they will probably announce Gears and Halo 6 for next year. I'm sure they will go for some 3rd party deal or something to have a holiday exclusive for THIS year.

Maybe he's talking about CancelDust and Canceldown 3. The Cancel franchise from M$ is the most varied and they have a new surprise each year for it.

I see the $ony fans are in full force in this thread. I think they are upside that their CloseStation doesn't have any games and they are closing up all their studios while MS come out with new IP's and new games. I can understand their concern, but if I were them I would voice that concern to $ony directly, not in an Xbox thread at Gamespot. $ony will never hear their cries here.

This still could mean anything game wise. And even then they might not even make it.

They're not going to be shaking the Cancelsoft mantra for a while with such a big budget game like Scalebound just straight up cancelled after multiple showcases. The seeds of doubt have already been sown. Meltdowns on twitter, youtube rage videos by lems, the works.

Anyhooie, It's never really only been about those two plus Forzas, it's just those three franchises cause the most BH for MS/Xbox anti fans and MS gamers love it. :P

@SecretPolice: My most played games in the past few months are from those series, they're polished now and provide outstanding gameplay I barely touched any of the 3rd party games I bought over the holidays lol. The haters here that keep bashing H/G/F ad nauseam, I bet you most of them don't give a flying **** either way and it's just a matter of bashing Xbox and Microsoft.

Looking forward to seeing what games come out this year, not really thinking about it now to be honest and I certainly won't read much into those tweets. Still a little bummed out that Scalebound is cancelled, but what are you gonna do these things happen. I'm very happy that they focused on their flagship franchises first, they are strong on that front now and have a good foundation. Maybe now they will have more freedom to take more risks on some of the newer IPs, will see. I'm certainly not breaking my head over it now, lot of games to play. Good to see them being open about some of those titles though via social media, a little reassuring for fans considering the recent high profile cancellation.
