To all intents and purposes, this is a full-fledged PC in a box: an Xbox One cold boot takes a remarkable one minute, eight seconds to complete (power-up from standby is a rather more sane 18 seconds),

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-xbox-one-hardware-test

WTF 68 second to boot from cold is a joke,i think even my old windows PC boots faster from cold.

And 18 seconds from standby.? Are you fu***** joking that is as long as the PS4 takes from cold to boot.

Not only that the PS4 even that it uses 130 watts for gaming,5 more watts than the xbox one, still stay 5 degrees colder than the xbox one,at 44 degrees Celsius, while the xbox one while gaming runs at 49 degrees Celsius, the xbox one is actually hotter.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-hardware-test-playstation-4

PS4 for comparison.

Not sure if hotter is a big deal as it has all that ventilation. But the ps4 seems to be a lot louder which is much more of a factor in regards to overall experience

That is from standby to power-up. From powered down to powered up is a minute.

That's why they made the X1 so big, so it is just cool and quiet all the time and as they say, it's designed to be left on for a long time.

I'm never going to have my Xbone powered down. Just like my laptop, it will always be in standby mode. I'll be keeping my PS4 in the same mode.

It is a bit ironic that PS4 is 5 degrees celsius cooler while gaming, after all the FUD lems tried to spread.

It's not that bad, i'm sure in stand-by mode, it doesn't use much more power than a VCR or DVD HDD Recorder in stand-by mode.

Also, this reminds me, the Wii had an always on stand-by mode... What for lol.

Wow, yeah I won't be using it the stand-by mode either then. That's too much electricity for a device not in use. I never agreed with people making fun of PS4 start up times. who cares about that. They won't always take that long either, as time goes on, I think they'll make the start up times improve.

LOL.... and after all that about how XB1 is faster than PS4 b/c it boots up in 13 sec.?? REally?

A system that is leaving stand-by mode is NOT booting up.

This news is delicious.

Just keep in mind that Noise: Close is literally your ear touching the cooling vent. Which is in the back of the unit on the PS4, and the top on the XBone. If you are actually playing your system, they basically run at the same noise level.

I find funny that you say because standby consumption on the xbox one is higher that EU permits, second does the PS3 and 360 had standby modes.? Because the xbox one isn't even own to use it.

Oh and 18 second from standby is almost as much as the PS4 takes from cold boot.

Not sure if serious...

Running hotter can get your hardware to die faster, specially the xbox one GPU which is weaker than the PS4 one,how in hell the PS4 is running cooler with 6 watts more of consumption.?

At the distance of 1 meter which is i am sure smaller than most people play on consoles,is 42db for the PS4 41db for the xbox one, even less since i don't play games on mute.

Sony make an incredible console wow,it runs at higher watts than the xbox one, with a build in power supply something the xbox one doesn't have which also generates more heat inside the console, and still runs 5 degrees colder while gaming.

Confirmed the xbox one design is huge because the Soc was running to hot,and now we get why it doesn't have an internal power supply and most have that horrible power brick.

Now this is true damage control EU has some strict energy regulations,in EU electricity is more expensive than in US dude specially in UK where basically everything is more expensive than in other parts of the world.

The xbox one would probably not be able to use standby on EU do to regulations neither will the PS4 i think.

The fact that the exhaust runs hotter does not mean the chips run hotter. If anything it points to the Xbox One having better cooling since more heat is being released. Of course this has to be explained to you, tormentos.

It runs cooler because the fans a running harder, hence the 20% more noise. The Xbox One runs a bit hotter but its well within limits and there is no chance of overheating. You really are clutching a straws. Power consumption = heat = harder working fans, the PS4 produces more heat its just that the fans get rid of it by running harder. Neither should fail, but if you put them both in a closed space I bet the PS4 will fail first.

Cos graphics are the only next gen decider, I didn't now that. So PC owners are truly on the next next gen with resolutions beyond 1080p.

nothing else matters everyone so PC wins.

PS4 cant win nothing. Look at the reviews for PS4 and Xbox One, its obvious Xbox One has more to offer.

@tdkmillsy: It's running cooler because the heat sink is better and the air flow is directed.

While the XBO uses a low profile heat sink and no directed air flow vent. So some of the exhaust recirculates back through.

PS4 uses a blower fan... Which makes more noise then a typical bladed fan that is designed to cut through air.

errmm people from europe? energy bills are ridiculous over here, i dont think m$ or sony will be allowed to use stand by feature here unless it consumes less than 1 watt on standby.

How the hell do they charge their controller on the PS4 then, doesn't it have to be on standby to do that?

Have to say my PS4 is whisper quiet, smooth and fast. My big concern was how I'd like the controller and while its neither as comfortable or as easy to use as the 360's its a MASSIVE improvement over the dualshock. My only complaint is having to charge the damned thing and why I greatly prefer battery vs rechargeable controller.

They are pretty close, most important is that they are quiet, last gen, especially the first batch 360 where shocking .

PS4 is more powerfull, has the PSU inside, is smaller and still manages to be cool and quiet which is pretty awesome .

The PS4 is just an upgraded PS3. The XB1 is a next gen system.

Funny cuz xbone games are in 720p resolution. Lower resolution than most mobile phones.

Typical cow response. Graphics are the only thing that make a system next gen?

lol at damage control. who doesn't use standby mode

errmm people from europe? energy bills are ridiculous over here, i dont think m$ or sony will be allowed to use stand by feature here unless it consumes less than 1 watt on standby.

It's not that bad, i'm sure in stand-by mode, it doesn't use much more power than a VCR or DVD HDD Recorder in stand-by mode.

Also, this reminds me, the Wii had an always on stand-by mode... What for lol.

x1 uses 19watts on standby if i remember correctly and ps4 uses 13, that is way too much especially now that eu is trying to reduce the 1watt limit to 0.5. i never use standby ever, waiting 1 min is no big deal im just owning lems because they laughed at ps4 25second cold boot time lol m$ always bites them in the ass

and if you can't afford your electricity bill, worrying about the power consumption of a next gen console probably shouldn't be a priority

maybe u should stfu and mind your own business. if you want to pay higher energy bills then by all means go ahead

You post on this forum it IS his business,it's everyones business, this is a public forum dude if you don't want people commenting on what you have to say then don't post here.

It's hotter probably because the die is bigger.

I didn't expect it to be that noisy though. That sucks. Especially considering the size and type of the fan.

For the EU folks, standby is available on the PS4, but you have to enable it. If I remember what the PS4 manual stated.

Yet is the xbox one that one that can do 1080p...hahaha

The fact that the exhaust runs hotter does not mean the chips run hotter. If anything it points to the Xbox One having better cooling since more heat is being released. Of course this has to be explained to you, tormentos.

Nice spin dude...

Thermals are always measure that way,the more heat measure the hotter the chip is running, and considering that it was say the xbox was running hot.

And combined with a huge ass box even that there is no internal PSU basically is a clear give away the xbox one is running hotter..

damage control? WTF?

the "EU strict energy regulations" are news to me and i've lived in the UK all my life. like i said. i dont give a crap about this pitiful shite.

Yeah you are at full force now, maybe you are to dumb to understand that this laws affect the product your buy,and not you directly the regulation are impose on companies you don't make hardware you just use it.

So yeah full damage controls on your part.

Yawn... no ones going turn their system off with standby mode there. No on cares how hot or cold it runs its a matter of can the system designed for it.e
