Both have aged terribly either way. Nostalgia goggles (and my shitty trolling, lolryse) aside, both titles have done better since.

64 is the console that made me jump ship for PS1. I don't care what games it has, the controller is painfully stupid.

Seems ridiculous to compare a console that had its full gen to a 6 month old one. That said, I never was a Nintendo guy like so many here. I don't have the nostalgia for them. I'll take the X1 over it any day.

dude, when I got the N64 all I knew about gaming was Nintendo. I had sega consoles too but all I really cared was about Nintendo and when I got the N64, I liked playing Mario, Mario Kart and Zelda but the drought of games was so insane my love for them died right there.

Things were so bad I played more with my Nes and Snes than with the N64. After the Virtual Boy the N64 is easily their worst console, I even take the Wii, GC or Xbone at launch over the hell that was owning only a N64 for so many years till I got my PS1 with Parasite Eve around 1998. Sony and Kutaragi saved me dawg. Nintendo's nothing but nostalgia and children.

N64 was indeed the start of the now traditional Nintendo console cycle: a core of amazing games but spread over way too long, tons of droughts, tons of missing genres (I remember Nintendo folks/magazines pretending Fighter's Destiny and Quest 64 made up for missing Tekken and Final Fantasy!), and basically just missing out on most quality games.

When people say N64, they think of the core of AMAZING Nintendo and Rareware games for it, and think "Awesome console!" but they seem to forget that small core was spread over an entire console generation. I too remember going back and playing SNES games to supplement N64, particularly fighters and rpgs since the N64 lacked those.

As always, i think if you only want to play 3 - 5 games a year, and don't care what developers/genres you miss out on, a Nintendo console is perfect for you. If you want more than that, it's better to get a Playstation or (more recently) an Xbox.

I hear ya man. I was a SMS, Genesis, then Saturn guy. I switched over to PS as well. And was happy to do so. I respect the hell out of Nintendo, but didn't own one of their consoles until the Wii. Great game company, no doubt. But having loved so many great experiences on the Genesis I am not going to say its a better console than PS4, X1, WiiU yet. It makes no logical sense to me. I agree that nostalgia can really distort things. in psychology we discuss how the human memory is never objective due to us being emotional beings. I agree whole heartedly with you.

The whole video is a joke since it's entire comparing an old low selling system whose library hasn't stood the test of time (with exception to a handful of games), to a system that's only been out half a year, it's just a rhetoric comparison meant to demean the Xbox One from the get go. I mean one can simply accomplish the same kind of demeaning comparison by saying PS4 vs Cancer... "Cancer allows people to reflect on what's important in their life allowing for meaningful and fulfilling existence, while playing on PS4 is a waste of time; +1 cancer... Cancer is a qualifying condition for medical marijuana; +1 cancer... Cancer causes social wide sympathy and support from the community, being a gamer makes people social pariahs; +1 cancer...".
