The Xbox Series X is going to feature dedicated audio hardware acceleration, which is definitely going to improve immersion for next-generation titles.

The inclusion of audio hardware acceleration in the next-gen Microsoft console has been confirmed today by the description of a GDC 2020 presentation that will be held on March 18th detailing the improvements of spatial sound. Microsoft's Senior Technical Audio Specialist Rober Ridihalgh will also be present.

More info in the link it look like this is something Navi related more than anything as the PS5 also has something like this.

Bleh... Don't care to much for sound. I just want to be able to hear what I am doing. I understand why people care about it, but for me it is not a big deal at all. A good quality soundbar and subwoofer is all I ever need.

Also them acting like its really worth mentioning? It's really redundant in todays world.

Didn't his TV make PS3 games look better than PC?

That’s cool I guess but I’m not really much of an audiophile myself so this won’t really impact me.

How much of a difference would that make on CPU load?

@dxmcat: Onboard audio is no longer a joke. Most cheap mobos have decent sound these days. Some of the high end mobos have the same components used in the high end soundcards.

Of course not, because you care about quality. People used to buy a cheap Asus Xonar card because the onboard was so bad. Now that is no longer the case. The onboard will often meet or exceed the quality of that. You can even buy mobos with Asus Essense STX II or Sounblaster ZXR built in.

Xbox One also has a dedicated audio chip.

That's why Xbox One has more audio features than the competition.

Pretty much this. I use headphones all the time on PC and for consoles, I'll take whatever it has.

Yep on his "plasma TV" which made his ps3 bypass PC's superior graphical and performance advantages...... Because of LCD monitors lacked the color and contrast depth.....

I remember telling him at that time I too had a 50" Plasma and have had my pc hooked up to it, and wouldn't that make his argument void.... lol

So I guess this means the 4chan "leak" from your other thread, the one that suggested the Series X would have no dedicated 3d audio, that everyone (including TC) believed was fake bullshit, was fake bullshit.

The better the sound the better... on that note I really wish they would tone down the sound of footsteps in most games. It already sounds like you're a reindeer running on a roof made of tin and glass. Better sound is good, but only if they concentrate on the levels.

What's the different with Sony's 3D audio? damn Sony, upgrade your 3D something sound to 6D or something superficial but PR worthy for my money. make it twice moar powerful. Don't let Microsoft copy everything u do.

That's awesome, even though I have no clue what the hell "dedicated audio hardware acceleration" is...

Is it 2013? I kid, I kid.

Personally, I'd rather have a good DAC like Schitts, or whatever, that onboard stuff, but cool for console gamers, I guess.

@tormentos:

The GPU RT can focus on graphics RT

The DSP RT can focus on audio RT

The CPU can focus on command.

It's the division labor with specialization.
