Will Microsoft have to upgrade their format? If 25-50gb games are to be ported from PS3 to Xbox360, wouldn't just using multiple DVDs, compression, or cutting content be good enough?
Besides, games like Gears of War only took up about 7gb.
For years, companies like Hitachi and TDK have been making these 100-200gb Blu-Ray discs - but we haven't seen any game come close to being that big. Will the gap between DVD and Blu-Ray become more and more like the gap between CD and DVD as time goes on?
Hideo Kojima has asked Sony for 100gb discs for the release of MGS4 because the 50gb discs were not enough.
Well, Microsoft has repeatedly said that they would not add Blu-Ray to the current Xbox for various reasons. Currently, I think that Microsoft has a strong enough grip of the gaming industry to actually hold back PS3 games from being bigger than SSDL 8.5gb. It would take a lot more PS3 purchasers to justify devs making 100gb games for the PS3 and then scaling them down for the Xbox 360.
Nonetheless, last month, Microsoft and Sony met at a dinner meeting to discuss the possibilities. As for the next Next Gen, I think that Microsoft might have it in the cards to use Blu-Ray over something like a 10 terabyte hard drive for downloading games and movies - so what do you think?
