Will this just be a player (like the hd-dvd add-on) or they will make game discs in this format?

I don't believe it. MS said multiple times they were going to offer Blu-ray if HD-DVD flopped. I think their words were "we believe in choice and if the customers choice is Blu-ray we will support that." Then when HD-DVD flopped they went back on their statement. So anything MS says regarding Blu-ray I would take with a huge grain of salt.

Didn't these threads/speculation end like a year ago? This will never happen this gen.
I'm pretty sure it wont be $100 unless it is really late next year. Time will tell.

[QUOTE="johnnyblazed88"]i wouldnt buy it, im still happy with dvd qualityPOJO_MOFOBut with the PS3 you can upconvert :) I will be suprised if MS DOESNT come out with a BR player soon, but it will be the same as the HD-DVD, as player only, no games
Uh, the 360 upscales DVD's too.

While its true PC has higher resolution capacity, HD movies available for download are of much lower quality than a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD disc at this point.

i didn't know that, i thought h.264 was really good quality, thanks for the heads up, but i can get a blu-ray player cheaper than the ps3 anyway i certainly won't be buying a blu-ray add on for the 360 eitherBut with the PS3 you can upconvert :) I will be suprised if MS DOESNT come out with a BR player soon, but it will be the same as the HD-DVD, as player only, no games[QUOTE="POJO_MOFO"][QUOTE="johnnyblazed88"]i wouldnt buy it, im still happy with dvd qualityNagidar

No, it doesn't...not nearly to the same degree anyways.

HDDVD needed 15Gigs, Blu-Ray needed at least $25gigs...how could some little 1gig or less downloads LOOK AS GOOD?
Don't fall for such simple marketing tactics, especially if you have the HD screen.

If you're a business and you want to make money, what type of game are you going to make when only like 1% of your install base can potentially play it? How much money would you invest in this game? What do you think the quality of this game would be?
Anyways, if the price is really gonna be $150-200... I think thats puts a massive hurt on Sony gaming but is a major huge boost to Sony electronics.

Really? Got a link to the differences? Because I've watched movies on both my 360 and PS3 and they both look the same.

From my understanding, the 360 will not upscale DVDs over any connections other than HDMI or VGA, but over either of those two connections, it upscales almost identically to the PS3 or any other upscaling DVD player.

Yes, I know, I just wanted to see if he could dig up some proof of his claim.

Excellent point. So assuming its true and it will be just an add-on player it will be a win-win situation for both in theory. MS will get a market share of blu-ray movie adopters and Sony will rack royalty bucks. But the real question is will be the royalty payments outweigh their gaming division's losses? I doubt it. And so in the end, MS gains more from this.

Actually it is true. There is an article on 1up.com today that confirms 'Toshiba and Samsung contracted to make external Blu-Ray drive for 360'. There is probably the same article on Gamespot too.

You could pack a great looking picture onto a DL DVD. DVDs were taking up whole DL DVDs but you certainly don't need 8 gb to hold sd content. You can go out and DL a 720p film that looks tons better and isn't even 5gb. A download won't look as good as a BD or HD-DVD, but its not like it looks bad. It'd look better than upscaled DVD and over the air HD and most people are happy with that.
5-8gb is more than enough to store a 720p image with no artifacts or noticeable blocks.
