Xenoblade Chronicles X review copies being sent out a month prior to launch

As someone who disliked the original game, I'm somewhat excited for this one. There's certainly no game to play the end of the year for me, Fallout 4 fell from heaven with its refusal to change. Now it has the competition of MGS5, Witcher 3 and XCX, the Fallout franchise will fall from grace. Hopefully XCX will offer a compelling game, something its predecessor couldn't do. It has Gundams, that's a good start.

Nice to see them send it out so early for reviews, but the news regarding the greatly decreased focus on story from those that played the Japanese release really killedy hype.

Unfair criticism, despite Xenoblade X being the successor for Xenoblade Chronicles, they're both games with different creative vision. Xenoblade Chronicles had a linear story, while Xenoblade Chronicles X doesn't. In XCX they focused on a living breathing world, side-quests give you more insight into the world you live in, while Xenoblade Chronicles had all of its story jammed in a very linear fashion.

XCX just has its story scattered around, you talk to people and get more of the bigger picture. They're both vastly different games, and if you come to XCX expecting more of the same linear story, then you're going to be disappointed. I didn't like Xenoblade Chronicles because of how linear it was myself. XCX's world comes off as more genuine, and much more immersive.

I'm cautious about this game, the reception in Japan is very mixed.

well, one can't make a well informed review without giving them adequate time to do so, and I imagine games like this require more than your your typical amount of time to do a proper write-up of

Unfair? Excuse me for listing a concern I have with the game, and not once did I say it should be exactly like Chronicles.

Wish they'd send me my pre-order early. :P

It just depends what you want out of the game. I never cared much for the story in the first Xenoblade, so having it be less of a focus for this one could be a good thing for me. It will come down to how well the gameplay holds up after 80+ hours. Having mechs unlock halfway through may help with that. Review scores will be quite a bit lower than the original though due to a "lackluster story".

The mixed Japanese reception seems to come solely from Amazon reviews.

There was one mixed review, and it came from Kotaku. In general the reception for the game seems to be positive.

Even though I disliked the first game, it's really hard not to get excited when I see this. God fucking dammit!

@charizard1605: That's an opinion from the west. Amazon Japan has the game pegged at 3.5/5 stars.

Loved the first game, its one of my favorite JRPGs of all time, i hold it up there with Skies of Arcadia Legends. Ive already signed the blood contract for this one, cant wait.

My blood is boiling, I want this now! I've also been sampling the music to see what to expect, damn fine music! I can't stop from oogling at those Gundams, they're so beautiful. Waiting to get one is going to be torture...

God damn, the Gundam makes everything looks small, the trees don't even reach its knees. Yet, that second GIF dwarves the Gundam, such amazing sense of scale.
