Poll Y/N: Would you consider the Gamepad a success? (31 votes)

Yep! 29%
Nah... 71%

Would you consider the Gamepad a success in its marketing and attraction to consumers? I am just wondering because I've seen little amount of people commend it and its use in Wii U games doesn't seem that....beneficial.

Just like the wii mote with the wii.

It could have had nice features in game, but was never really used.

Same thing will happen with the gamepad, could have tons of cool features but devs won't bother. Just look at Super Mario 3D World

Its a 1st Party Success. 3rd Parties don't use it. Its just extra work for them because the Xbox and Playstation controllers don't have them especially considering only about 6 million people have Wii Us.

But damn I want one.

Hell no. I like the thing but there are very few games that actually use it aside from Off TV play.

Really?

Even Nintendo barely use it in their games

Cause people tough it worked great, while it didn't until WM+ and rare were the games that used it well

Honestly the NFC stuff sounds interesting. I won't give a rats ass about it since I can't stand spending money on games let alone trinkets for them, but those might actually use the gamepad a bit more than it already does now.

So far they used it to varying effect in the Wii series line and Nintendoland. Maybe they could incorporate some of that into the other games like the ideas from the DK course, Takamaru, Mario tag, and that Metroid mini game.

That's not true, the Wii mote was used to great effect in many games. The IR pointer was enough justification for a lot of games, and Skyward Sword used motion plus to great effect a lot of the time. Really the biggest hindrance for the Wii mote was that the technology just wasn't advanced enough. Could've been more ergonomic too, they sacrificed that for the cutesy Tv remote look.

The gamepad is worthless for anything but off screen play, and even then I don't want to use it (don't need it anyway) because it's so clunky and bulky. And damn the battery life, I don't think it lasts 2 hours. :/

They use it a hell of a lot more than the Kinect does its own games.

The Wiimote was lost potential imo, but the pad is even worse. There is very little that uses the thing well imo aside from just tacking on Off TV.

I can't agree on it being bulky though, and the battery life is fine. If you're that worried about it, hook it to an outlet and your good to go.

Nope.

Not that I don't personally love the idea of the Wii U controller (though I think it could have been better-designed). Anything to get us away from standard dual analog controls.

But without enough support then whatever I guess. Consoles will just forever be dominated by standard dual analog controls, and games will suffer for it.

The fact that I play more often than not without the TV, yes, it is a sucess in terms of my personal enjoyment. Also, general menu navigation is very nice (eShop, etc.). In terms of Gameplay, not so much.

I don't think I can even answer that question since I really haven't used one of them yet. I don't think it has done much to help increase sales of the Wii U, that's for sure. I can't judge how it works or how it makes the gaming experience better, because I haven't used it with any games.

Yep. It's just a waste of space imo. I think its good for traversing menus and Off TV is nice, but if you are going to make it the pivot of your system, you better damn well have it working nice and tidy for said system.

No, Nintendo should have stuck with Wiimote and improved it.

No.

The gamepad is not even that good. The whole "take your game with you" doesn't even work. I take 5 steps with my gamepad, and it loses its signal. Useless.

No multitouch, and there's about 1 game that takes proper control of the thing to a point where it's actually contributing to making a game more interesting rather than making it more annoying to play.

@Lulu_Lulu: What's weird is third parties have actually done more inventive things with the Gamepad than Nintendo themselves -- examples -- ZombiU, Lego City.

In terms of marketing: No.

In terms of design and functionality: Absolutely.

No, I don't like it. It caused the Wii U to be more expensive than it needed to be, it doesn't have good ergonomics, the battery life is pathetic, the signal is too weak for me to play on the gamepad in a different room, and I find it really distracting when a game is mirrored on both the TV and gamepad.

Nintendo has failed for a while in its advertising endeavors.

I personally like the idea, and it has potential. That being said, I haven't seen its potential utilized like it probably could be.

Playing games on the pad and freeing up the living room television is nice. Bundled with the console I use it. If it was an optional accessory, I wouldn't bite.

I am not going to buy a Vita to stream from my PS4.

Yes it has raised the price of the Wii U. It's still 100 dollars cheaper than the PS4. The Wii U needs games, and those games need to utilize the hardware properly.

Semi successful is right... sure as hell was popular but it never got any props because it didn't work properly mosto f the time. They didn't even get the motion plus right it still had problems.. my god it felt like they was making rolex money with cardboard and sand.

The entire controller is half-assed, whatever innovation it could have is muddled.

At least the Wii Remote had Wii Sports, Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime, ect.

Gamepad has.....Pikmin 3?

I love it. I don't think it gets nearly enough credit. I remember after holdingit the first time I decided to get one. I thought it would be so heavy and uncomfortable. But it is super light and comfy

I like the controller a lot, but I won't consider it a success unless there is at least one RTS/TBS on the console that utilizes the controller the way that it really should be used.

Not everyone! Some people either like the thing, or know Nintendo has no choice but to leave it, because if they drop it, hell will break loose. Sales will drop lower than it is and fans will cause an uproar.
