Truth be told Yahtzee needs to do what the Angry Nerd does which is review old games that are obviously riddled with flaws so he can do his shtick which is to bash a flawed game with a ton of over the top anologies to the point where you hear more about his analogies then the actual game's flaws. His problem is he is now being pressured to review new popular games and his shtick just doesnt hold up as well. Hearing this guy exaggerate the flaws of MGS4, SSBB, LBP or other critically honored games just rings false. Half of the time he focuses on the most minute point and goes to town on that fact with his long analogies. At the end of his rants you actually know very little about the game and when many of these games have so much good to talk about its pretty annoying to hear him complain about the Sackboy's appearance for half the episode. His shtick has gotten old with me and I just don't find him funny anymore. His shockjock antics are now way to predictable and just makes him look like he is trying to hard to find flaws rather then ranting about REAL flaws that are TRULY frustrating.

One of the best games ever, and he was spot on with every comment.

I'm guessing that his next review will probably be for Monkey Island, unless something new turns up.

Wow... Some of you people need to stop analyzing his reviews so much and either enjoy them or ignore them. Personally, I thought it was hilarious, so the "It's just not funny any more" crowd need to realize... A lot of us still find it funny. Oh, and, good review.

Actually I said, "I DON'T FIND HIM FUNNY". I fully acknowledge that some people might and I used to, but like I said, I think its much more interesting when these gimmicky "reviewers" talk about old school games then the new releases that are thoroughly reviewed within 2-5 pages on real review sites. That's just how I feel, I get tired of the one trick pony after a while. Now a THREE TRICK PONY, that's where its at, lol.

Why do MGS4 fanboys never try to form an argument as to why the 'haters' are wrong, they just point out the score it got like that's proof or something.

No he is fond of nitpicking, doesnt understand the purpose of fighting games and just complains about every little thing, but hey that is his shtick and it works well on games that have more cons then pros not games critically praised by a variety of sources.

Because so many "haters" thought the game was going to flop, and the score proved them wrong. It's the first AAAA of this generation and the fans of the game don' have to make a valid arguemnet because the GS review speaks for itself

There is no wrong opinion. Some people like it and some don't like all things. The only problem comes when people don't acknowledge that their opinion is just an opinoin and others can have different ones.

The flaws in MGS 4 don't have to be exaggerated. They are pretty obvious. And he was pretty dead on about them. I'll admit, his gimmick is getting a bit old, but I still find him funny from time to time.

^ I agree this time with yazthee, altough Thief III was also a good game, and Thief II was indeed the pinnacle of stealth gameplay.

And also Deus Ex with the Shifter/Shifter Plus mod.

That's not what i'm saying. They just never back up their opinion or refute points made by those who feel the game is undeserving of it's score. You write up paragraph or two explaining your problems with the game. Instead of them even trying come up with a counter to your statement, they just write "10/10" or bring up other games. The problem comes when people can't back up why they like the game. No interesting conversation stems from this. This board is full of opinion nazi's. Why are you posting here with that kind of attitude? Why bother?

Uh... Why someone likes a game is because they played it and enjoyed it. Well, that's the reason non-fanboys tend to like games. You can list a hundred "good" things about one game and compare it to a game about which you can only think of five "good" things, and still like the latter game more simply because you enjoyed playing it more. What is with forum kiddies these days thinking that enjoyment comes from a laundry list of features? Enjoyment is an emotion, not a rational analysis of what is "good."

Because it's boring just saying, "oh i liked this game, yay." It's incredibly boring. This board wouldn't even exist if we acted like rational people.

Its fair enough to enjoy a game but in a debate 'I liked the game' doesn't really work as an argument.

[QUOTE="6matt6"] Its fair enough to enjoy a game but in a debate 'I liked the game' doesn't really work as an argument.

So what's the plan - are you going to argue with them until they realize the truth that, despite experiencing a feeling of enjoyment while playing the game in question, they idid not in fact enjoy the game? Just because it isn't a relevant point in a debate doesn't make it absolute true, particularly in matters of taste - like this is. I could tell you "I like Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues much more than Led Zeppling's Dazed and Confused" and there are two things true about that: 1) it is the case, and no amount of argument of "facts" can change that, and 2) it's pretty meaningless in a debate of the "quality" of the songs. Go figure, video games are good or bad based on the enjoyment they produce, and that that doesn't make it easy to debate quality really doesn't weigh in on that.

I just downloaded the demo of the first game and it runs like crap on Vista, even in Win98 mode. :/ It kept freezing during training and now I can't even get there, I keep getting a black screen that won't go away after I click continue.

Hopefully the full game won't fare so poorly should I decide to buy it.

Great as always. BTW if you don't like Yahtzee's reviews is it really necessary to come into EVERY one of them and say how you don't like him, he's not funny and that him not giving undying love to LBP & MGS makes him irrelevant. We already saw in all the other Yahtzee threads you posted in.

I feel ashamed for starting the game and not finishing it... along with its two sequels. But damn if Yahtzee is right. I know I haven't had a better stealth experience than the first Thief game (installed The Metal Age but never actually played it... to little time to even finish the first).

The whole dick-joke metaphor about Halo was hilarious... as was the "beginning of 3D cheap origami" point.

"The SS John Romero." Epic gold.

We need more games like Thief that actually take a chance with doing something against the grain and so far ahead of the industry, even a decade later games still haven't caught up.
