Yakuza 3 = Definitely not AAA

I dont understand what's the hype for this game. It looks like it has a sub par storyline (which is okay, cause not too many developers understand a good story these days). The graphics are mediocore (I'd compare it to Tekken Dark Ressurection). However, I guess since its open world, people are hyping it to be AAA. Well look at Saints Row.

Sure the game has a bunch of mini games like bowling, gambling, taking pictures of strippers, and golf (I understand the golf mini games outshines actual golf games) ... but seriously?? If I wanted to play a bunch of mini games I'd buy Wii Sports 5.

And the animations seem to be great.. but it's definitely recycled. Ive watch about 4 different videos now and all of them have the same head stomping animation. (That's seriously going to get boring for awhile).

I believe the developer has great ambitions...probably too great, which then falls short. They focus on making this game semi real life that they lose focus on the simplistic essentials that makes a superb game. By adding so much, they'll fall short on some things.

Cows hype any game to AAA really :S well the hardcore ones especially.

I have played the Demo and saying its AA its general overall feel is nice but it seems a little lacking in area's but the game itself has took a year to get to our shores aswell :S

I don't even think there's any hype at all for this game, at least for me. I was going to download the demo but I watched the demo videos first and it changed my mind about downloading it.

Here, it looks like some were just excited but noone really was hyping it. I guess they knew better.

The series, while fairly big in japan, is simply a cult classic in the west. There is no hype, no reason to try and understand it. Its one of those games that simply have a strong following, and Im willing to get it when the price drops a bit on it. Don't bother trying to understand it.

Tried the demo for 10 minutes, got very very bored . Heavy Rain will be in my mailbox tomorrow and with titles like Bad Company 2 and Red Dead Redemption comming, I let Yakuza slip into the dark sea of forgotten games..ketle

That's stating the obvious. I wouldn't expect it to be getting AA ratings either. Some still give its dated and iterative feel a break because the sum of its parts etc., and those parts still feel quite cool and distinctive. But I doubt all critics will see it that way. Even some fans are starting to feel burned out at this point.

Yakuza 3 is not exactly a leap forward. More of the same. I first jumped in with Yakuza 2, so though I think it's unfortunate, I'm kind of ok with that. Getting it day one. For anyone who hasn't played a Yakuza before, you definitely need to play this game with a different mindset to enjoy it. Think of it as an arcadey retro game and give it a chance.

Nowhere in teh first thread did it say anything about AAAE, let alone Yakuza 3 being AAAE.

Your second link didn't even talk about Yakuza 3, apart from one poster I saw who saw it as a game they were looking forward to. Not AAAE.

It is an 1 year old game, that almost wasn't released in the west because wouldn't appeal here. It is not true open world game and is more like a beat-emup game.

Of course won't be AAA, no one though it would be.

In fact I think will be an A game. My prediction is a 7-7.5 score.

The lack of full voice work really kills it. I wanted it to feel more like shenmue but it just doesn't. Still fun just not what I expected. Especially in the graphics department, It really looks like yakuza 2 just running in 720p

the biggest games problem is TEXT. There will be a five minute cutscene, then 20 minutes of text dialouge, then a 5 minute cutscene to continue it. IT MAKES NO SENSE!!! Also the animations in gameplay are last gen. Its not AAA, but i wonder if Yakuza 4 fixed the problems with 3.

I cant belive people actualy belive these "official hype threads". 3/4 of the votes are by blinds fanboys from both sides of system wars and alt accounts of those same fanboys...

Umm there hasint been hype thread as AAA. This game at most is AA even then im not sure to hype it by that much since yakuza 1&2 7.4&7.5 and those games felt like 8's to me. The story is actualy good. If you are just judging by the demo story wiseand neve played 1&2 then you really have no right.

I thought cows were hyping it "AA"? As for the story TC go play the first two Yakuza titles and you'll understand why a lot of people are looking forward to the story f the 3rd title.
