yay...another UC3 graphics thread, even though the game is a year away...

alright, SW users. first things first, this is not in any way, shape, or form, a slam on UC3 graphics. from what has been seen, the game looks stellar. my argument is this: does anyone think its a light years leap forward in graphical prowess from UC2, or do you think its a nice progression, kind of like Gears 1 to Gears 2 (and hopefully Gears 2 to Gears 3). I personally think the latter, but I'd like to hear some other points of view. let's try to keep it nice, please. i'm not comparing ps3 to 360. i'm just comparing previous iterations of the Uncharted series to itself.

IMO it looks better, but I don't see a drastic jump graphically like Resistance 3 is looking like compared to 2.

It's likely going to be a notable increase in graphics. Will it be a huge leap? I doubt it.

Well I did watch the demo and so far it doesn't look much better than Uncharted 2 in my opinion. I think it's too soon to tell. By that I mean if it's the only footage we've got, I'm gonna wait until there's footage that showcases the environments in the game a bit more. At least a bit more than just a building on fire.

It does look a bit better than UC2, which is great conserning how great Uc2 looks for a console game. I just hope they'll add 3D support and polish it a bit more (the part where his foot is stuck looks a bit weird IMO)

I thnk the leap isnt as great as Gears 2 to Gears 3.

But its still standard sequal leap atleast.

I think it looks worse than Uncharted 2 but thats more do to the environments. The burning rooms which look not so good pale in camparison to the ice and snowy tundra in Uncharted 2. Gears 3 looks to have the most progression and in fact I think it looks better than Uncharted.

Uncharted 1 was a pretty damn good-looking game (IMO), it just had a few rough spots. Uncharted 2 definitely looks a lot better, but it was a pretty natural progression. I think a big part of people thinking it looked so much better than the previous game (and other games) is their filmic HDR technique, which provides a nice saturated, colorful look with deep blacks. It really helps the game stand out, since a lot of others have a desaturated/washed-out look to them.

It's probably not a coincidence that one of the most noticable changes Epic made to UE3 for Gears 3 is the addition of post-process color correction tools. They're using them quite aggessively in the Gears 3 screenshots to try to get that bright, vivid, "jungle" look. But personally I think it looks pretty bad...the color correction isn't subtle enough and it ends up looking like the colors are totally fake and artificial...kinda like a black and white movie that had color added on afterwards. But a lot of people also seem to think it looks great, so they must be doing something right. :)

Uncharted 3 still has a year to go. It can improve by a lot.

Uncharted saw more of an overhaul between the original and the sequel. Uncharted 3 seems to be focusing on improving the physics and effects like fire, water and sand. It'snot like the character modelsneed to be touched up much anyway, since Uncharted 2 was gorgeous. Still too soon to really tell though.

So far, it looks decent. The styling is fantastic, but there's almost no normal mapping, the animations are wonky, and the fire effects are kinda weak.
