Lets look at the ps2 10 years in 2009. But I'd call it six because of the ps3. Ps2 is still geting support but barly enough to call it alive. Yeah 10 years strong! Whats it got this year...? Lego games and Some sports games? Alright sony!

Yakuza 2 and Persona 4. God of war 2 was in 2007, well after the PS3, and it was great.

Why would they do that? The PS2 outsold the 360 a couple of months ago in May sales and once it drops from $129 to $99 expect sales to go up. PS2 will keep going into 2009 and then cease.

don't listen to fanboys its not a 10 year console they believe anything sony says.......... yea gow 2 was the swan song for the ps2 but its not goign strong and it wasn't for a while before gow 2.

ya i mean at e3 i was going crazy over the ps2 games announced :roll: if we're talking strictly production and sales then yes the ps2 is still alive but if we're talking dead as in games (good ones) that it has been very much so for a while.

My bad just caught your name, but even still with an xbox you were cut short. The PS2 still has great games coming out for it, maybe you don't like them but some of us do. I can't wait to pick up Persona 4 this year.

A lot of good games have been released after the launch of PS3. Some imo, are better than what all 3 are offering right now. But hey, if fanboys can't understand the philosophy behind supporting a console for 10 years then its fine. I like that Sony supports their consoles for so long, it gives devs even more time to understand the hardware.Tiefster

Consumers decide the lifespan of consoles, not the manufacturers.

Companies sell (and continue to sell) products because they are making money, not because of some ridiculous PR statements, or original plans, or dreams, or desires. Money, and money alone.

And we the consumers decide whether they make money based upon whether we buy the product.

If the PS3 (or the Wii, or the 360) stopped selling today...literally no sales after today....do you really think it would last 10 yrs? Don't be silly. It will last as long as it makes sense to last, based upon whether Sony and game makers continue to make money.

The PS and PS2 lasted a long time because they were wildly successful and continued to make money, because they continued to sell, and their games continued to sell. They didn't last as long as they did because of Sony's 'plan'. That is laughable.

I am sure the developers of the Edsel also expected it to last many years...and guess what happened....

what's the xbox got? the gamecube?

the ps2 is getting quite frankly surprisingly good support at this day and age, even if it is just mostly cash cow ports.
