Sorry if old.

Found this in Kotaku.

Excerpt from the article:

...like pretty much every other game these days! It's been known for some time that years-in-development psychological thriller Alan Wake will have an episodic nature. That nature will continue after the game is out.

The aim, it seems, is to created gaming's version of something like the television drama Lost. At CES, Microsoft has confirmed that the game will have DLC — something that Alan Wake creator and writer Sam Lake hinted at last month in an interview with GameSpot.

When asked about post release content, Lake replied, "We have talked about it, and with our episode-based structure, it would be very logical. But nothing has been decided on the matter, and right now, we are fully focused on polishing the game and shipping it. After that, let's see."

With the game not yet shipped, it looks like Microsoft and developer Remedy Entertainment have taken a break from being fully focused on the game and confirm Alan Wake DLC at this year's CES.

So what do you think?

I am just waiting for the game itself right now, lol. If it impresses me like I think it will, I'll be game for continuing the experience.

SPOILERS AHEAD

The protagonist - Alan Wake survived in the final for the continuity of DLC.:o

lcw0810883
How do you know? Maybe he won't or his fate is uncertain, i.e. he's in coma and we play as someone else and try to help him.

As long as the main game is not really short then I think great. Why would you not want more of a great game?

Yeah, if the main game isn't shorter than 10 hours, and DLC lasts another 3, it's fine.

Since I don't think DLC is inherently good or bad it's hard to say anything without knowing what it is exactly and at what price. I have some faith in Remedy not screwing people over, but on the other hand they're under MS, plus it took them quite a while just to make the game.

If one word could describe this generation it would be, "MILKAGE". You never ever get the full game anymore. Soon your gunna have to buy each chapter individually. That isnt even a stretch for me to say that either.

That depends of your definition of "full game". I've played a lot of games that have offered me a completely satisfactoy experience and have DLC. DLC is optional, don't forget that.

All those 'seasons' should be on the disc. They've already taken half a decade to make the game, it better have a load of content in it.

Making announcements isn't illegal. If they announced it at release the same negative responses were given.

If you're going to add DLC to a game at least wait until it's been released until announcing it. Feels like they just couldn't be bothered putting it in the game

And? Just because it could be on the disc it does mean the devs have any obligation of put it in there. Besides, when they announce has very little to do with when they decided to make DLC.

I don't see why people dislike DLC so much. Especially when some DLC is good and actually expands the game.

This looks to be the good kind.

Eh... I dont like the idea of releasing a full game then releasing episodic dlc. Just have the whole game be episodic then so I dont feel like Im not going to get the whole story if I buy a full game, or that they could have put more in the game I paid 60$ for but decided to leave it more open for dlc. It would be fine if like they would start making it and month after month they would put out new episodes at like 10$ each then that might be cool but this isn't imo

The game will be complete from the get go and finish too. We'll most like be seeing an additional storyline afterwards which might be set in several episodes.

Why? It's not like announcing after will change anything. Besides, a lot of players would be more interested in a SP game if they know that there will be support after release to add longevity.

I have nothing against DLC after it's released. but DLC is starting to sound like Trophies and Achievements.

When they announce it before the Game's Release it seems like the DLC is being forced on the developers.

When DLC was new it was like another part of the Story or an Add-on something that's not in the Original Game.

now it just seems like "Oh we'll have DLC." like it was meant to have DLC, not it wasn't supposed to have DLC but now it does.

Obviously, it is a product. I don't expect them to accept a "thank you" in exchange for it.

Indeed. Especially considering it's a SP-only game. Good for those looking for longevity.

As long as it doesn't feel like they purposely cut out a part of the game in order to package it as DLC, I'm fine with it.
