-Taking out new stuff that made the recent game great.

-Putting in basic components to the game while not adding anything new.

I think Nintendo can innovate (as they've done with Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario Land series and DK), but at the same time have made games like these that don't.

What are your thoughts on Nintendo's game making process?

Also, should Nintendo trust other devs with their IPs? It seems like games like these are made by other parties

Nintendo did NOT make Yoshi's New Island or Mario Tennis Open.

Get it right.

Nintendo themselves are great devs.

Forgot to mention that in the topic, haha. Will edit.

Nintendo has one of the most prolific output of all game publishers. Where they make duds like Mario Tennis Open or Yoshi's New Island, they also release incredible stuff like The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, and so on.

Every big name publisher will have some poorly performing product. Even Sony had Knack, or Rockstar Manhunt 2. That does not implicate their game making process at large, which gave us masterpieces like The Last of Us or Red Dead Redemption respectively, or in Nintendo's case, mostly anything else that they make.

Nintendo didn't make YNI. They contracted a private third party called "Arzest" to make it under license.

If the game had been made by the team that did the original (in whole or in part) I can guarantee it wouldn't have been bad.

"Bad" sounds way too harsh (though to be fair, I have not played it yet). People always seem to exaggerate the quality of a game if it is mediocre or worse.

Also, these developers made Wii Play: Motion? I guess that's why it wasn't as good as the first. Not that the first was anything great, but it did have Tanks!
