playing this on pc and am getting ****ing destroyed...i'm a console guy usually, but the level on competition on here is brutal; these guys don't mess around. half the time i don't even know where death is coming from. it can be frustrating, but i don't think i've ever got my ass kicked so bad in a game, yet came back for more.

Welcome to the actual gaming world.

Yes, i've seen much worse then BF3. CS 1.6 remains legendary in getting asses kicked, couldn't even get a single kill for quite some rounds.

Well it's not easy. There are quite a few BF veterans and rather hardcore BF3 players. I saw one at max rank already.
And with the weapons and vehicles it matters a lot whether you got some upgrades unlocked.
So the first bit is extra rough.

^^Unreal Tournament was a worse experience for me than CS.

PC games tend to be highly competitive. Not to mention the mouse is brutal for FPS ;)

Be patient, creep around, make sure you always have cover - you will start dominating.

Nope. Counter Strike 1.6 on the other hand is a game I always get my ass kicked on. Considering I've been playing it off and on since 2002, it kinda sucks :P Metal Gear Online is another. I put in so many hours into that damn game and I still find it pretty tough. Even when it was my main go to multiplayer game, MGO was f***ing brutal.

The most skill-driven FPS is Counter Strike...
.
Concerning Battlefield, I've always found them boring.

Can't say I have any trouble in BF3. If I put my mind to it, I get get to the top of the board, without too much effort. Hopefully when MW3 comes out, the BF3 community will be a bit better. Bit too easy, at the moment.

I think I was doing pretty well in BF3 mp on the PC actually... for someone who rarely plays competitive MP (FPSs) these days. Most of the time I've had positive K/D ratio (lv 10 atm).

Still tho, I do have well over 10 years of expiriance with FPSs on the keyboard and mouse.I can imagine console exclusive gamers having a lot of troble with K&M.Its so different then a controller.

Palying Uncharted 3 atm and just reminded myself how inaccurate and inprecise the controller is.K&M all the way if you get used to it (for shooters).

PS. Also I do you razer K&M with only 1ms lag and a monitor with 2 ms lag. That sure helps. If you use laggy Monitor/TV it can really hurt you in these games.

Quake and TFC probably had the toughest communities. Guilty Gear was the same, just not online.

Thing is that BF3 or COD or even the original Counterstrike are not niche communities like the ones above. They have large communities and therefore plenty of terrible players.

playing this on pc and am getting ****ing destroyed...i'm a console guy usually, but the level on competition on here is brutal; these guys don't mess around. half the time i don't even know where death is coming from. it can be frustrating, but i don't think i've ever got my ass kicked so bad in a game, yet came back for more.

black_chamber99

Same here. Mainly console guy who is just getting into pc gaming and i did got destroyed the first 4 days of playing. It pisses me off so much because i was pretty good in BC2 but on 360 so going on pc may improve your accuracy but rusty as hell for the rest... Getting better but still get ****d 1/4 od the time. Love the game and i will be playing this for years so i'm not really worried. Skillz will come by themselves :)

I recommend playing 32-player matches. You won't be destroyed as quickly, and you can focus more on flanking and being sneaky, giving you easy shots at enemys.

The main reason i'm playing the pc version is 64players. Conquest Large is all i roll. Want to get used to it as it is because it'll be my only mode for the next 2 years. I loved to do a full round of Rush in BC2 with same tank and have 25-55kill, here its much harder to tank, they feel weaksauce compared to BC2 tanks.

I've been getting my ass handed to me quite regularly in BF3. Even though I'm no pro I do still hold my own on occasion, it kind of depends on the map and the group I'm playing with and against. I remember it being much worse in CS:S, now that game was rough...

This. 32--player matches comprise probably 90% of the matches I've played. 64 players seems too much for the size of the maps.

I dunno but i tried 24players on 360 and it felt like a damn ghost town. Boring as hell compared to the chaos 64players can bring. Operation metro+64players+RPG,SMAW, Noobtube= rarely seen so much chaos in a video game.

Agreed. I have played consoles my whole life and got a PC about 4 months ago and I had a real tough time getting used to it. Even now I have to solely rely on tactics because I will lose most one on one encounters bc everyone else seems much quicker than me

really depends on your team, a good player can't do well if the rest of his team is crap I'm not one to care too much about my overall stats, I'm always killing more than dying or most the time, my overall KD is like 1.17 or something but as I see it I'm never one to care as much about my stats and more about winning matches, on Rush games of course I never want to be that guy that dies all the time, that runs the counter down, so I move forward cautiously but still aggressively to where we don't get rushed from inaction, on defensive matches I'm willing to run up and sacrifice myself if just to take out a few guys nesting in a spot to get them because it's all about stopping their offensive, some defensive rounds with lots of armor I usually anticipate first objective being taken so I'll prep for the next one, pick engineer, put 6 mines down, suicide, put 6 more down suicide, by the time I'm done they'll give up trying to get armor to the next objective, anyhow suffice to say my strategy to win isn't always reflected in my KD stats

On another note, does anyone else feel like kills in Battlefield 3 (or pretty much any military shooter) feel unsatisfying? I mean almost every time you're behind them, you win the fight. Compare that to a game like quake where you can whip around and beat them, it just feels so much better when you kill someone.

No, it isn't. It's a false mantra that people spout to say "I don't care about kills, I'm going for the objective!" Well I have easily gotten the most kills by going for the objective, so I get both objective points and a ton of kills. Your K/D does pretty good when you take out 10 dudes trying to rush in and defuse your bomb, or clearing everyone out in a conquest point and capping it. Dying a lot, and thus having a bad K/D, doesn't help anybody. You aren't supporting your team in any way by being dead, regardless of what you are doing. If you're not getting a lot of kills, but you ARE helping the team out, capping objectives, etc., then you probably aren't dying a lot, in which case your K/D won't be bad at that point either. Besides, W/L ratio only counts for a very little bit itself... these games are HUGE. I've lost more matches than I can count despite doing my absolute best to make sure the team will win... they just don't pull their weight sometimes. Even a few coordinated guys on Vent can't always turn a bad team around.

A lot of players on PC tend to customize settings and things just perfect for competition. Keeping display where they can have at least 60fps, using a nice keyboard with keys mapped just where they like, and a mouse with a high DPI and instant response time for speed and accuracy. Some players even connect a joystick or controller for switching to aircraft.
