They could really use this game as a system seller. First thing's first, the hardcores of gaming are going to criticize Heavenly Sword for not being the AAA title it was supposed to be. Reviews have been AA and it seems there's a good chance 7.5-8.5 may be the range Gamespot's review will fall in. Still, everyone of them with a PS3 will buy Heavenly Sword because it's really the big exclusive of the month the PS3 has to offer as competition to what will obviously be a big September 25 for Microsoft.
As for what they're doing right now, any fan of God of War or Prince of Persia with some knowledge of the game will obviously be interested, and Sony's CGI commercial for the game definetely targets this. Can this get these people to buy a PS3? Maybe, but here's how they can really sell the system....
CASUALS. Heavenly Sword represents an epic that can be compared to a game casuals know, God of War. Then, if Sony can market this game as the next BIG revolution in gaming, combining two different mediums, film and gaming, together in one, it could be that type of "chase" title casuals would buy the system for. Use Andy Serkis' name and make reference to his work in Lord of the Rings and King Kong and it would immediately make the game credible in the general public's eyes. All you'd have to do is package it in a commercial, not just at E3 or as a downloadable preview on the PSN.
But, Sony isn't doing this. Wish they would, I can't wait for September 12th!
