I think Western GameSpot reviewers are more easily impressed as gamespot.jp didn't give it a perfect score, the native culture the game is based around didn't give it a 10 so why should it get it here?

Besides the technical issues in that game alone should have prevented it from scoring perfect.

My bro bought a PS3, I can finally test out MGS4 for myself now :). I only have MotorStorm right now, but I'll get MGS4 soon.

BTW: The PS3 and the 360 are very much similiar. I see why cows love it so much and I only had it for a day now. It's pretty damn awesome.

Hate to steal your thunder (actually i don't but anyway) the game is based around American and western culture, hence the characters all look western (ie. Snake, Otocon) and not Asian (exception* mei ling).

No, those are the characters in the game and what race and culture they are. The plot is quite western too with conspiracy and such, also reflected in some animes so its a hodge-podge.

It comes from a Japanese man's head, who happens to be a creative genius and also a fan of bad action movies in the 80s (inspiration for solid snake). Despite being a japanese game, the translators did little more than change the language for MGS4, the game is highly western-centric if a little hardcore and alienating for anyone over 50 and/or a woman :P

I find myself actually praying they get another good game sometime soon, so they can go on for months about it instead cause all I've heard since it came out is how it's a godly game for the jesus station.

They'd have you believe it's the best RPG, FPS, TPS, Racer, Dungeon Crawler, fighter, sandbox ultimate across all genres end all of a a game. And it's really not. I get theres little else worth playing but give it a break, go back to hyping up killzone that's still funny, this lost it's funny a month or two back.

Why are people making an issue out of this? The Western themes in the game are irrelevant to what I meant, which was the population it was primarily made for/part of the world the game was developed in gave it a lower rating than here. Someone said GameSpot.jp rating system is different from here which could explain the difference of opinion, all I see is it scoring perfect here and not there.

To be frank it irritates me a tad that despite its technical issues the game got a perfect score; while any PC game would be criticised by the reviewer and given a lower score if it performed below 30fps and had way too frequent loading screens.

The excuse (or reason) was for the gamer to take a break every now and then and rest for a little while after an hour or so gamin. I don't like to play normal games and be told when to take a break, when i can save, and generally have my freedom to a life outside restricted by what point i am at on the game. But if you take into account that MGS4 is not strictly a game through and through, how can it be called a game when there are 45 minute cutscenes that all you can do is pause or skip them? Follow me on this plane of thought...

MGS4 is not a game. It comes in a box, you play it on a PS3, it looks like a game, it quacks like a game, but its not a game, entirely. MGS4 is more of an "interactive gaming experience", instead of a pointless buzz-word this means that technology has got to the point where a gap in the market between arm-chair comfort of a movie can be blended with the spine-tingling and origional plot and events of a novel and the thrill of being involved in the stor, you are in the game playing the protagonist that all hope rests upon.

Leading back into to my actual point :P as an arm-chair relaxing switching to exhilerating gameplay "IGE" (interactive gaming experience.... i don't see the name catching on somehow) the loading screens don't seem to bother me, installing just means a 40 second break to get a drink or reflect on the story and what has happened etc. This is the casual way to play it and the way Hideo would have wanted it to be even if installs weren't needed. And to be honest i don't think there needs to be installs it can all run off the disc just as fast as the HDD but whatever its not even an issue, more helpful as a reminder that theres a world out there for a few seconds of a 15 hour playthrough lol .

mgs4 does not suck anyone who says that probably spends their time playing.....Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing but lets not go into that.MGS4 IS a great game.but not the best!
