I decided I would get on CoD4 tonight after not playing it or any XBL stuff for about a week. I had been playing my PS3 online in silence for that week. Anyway so I had my mic muted and also the sound muted. However, after a match was over on CoD4 I decided to turn up the sound in my mic ear piece. Here are some of the lines that I heard:

Some guy: We only lost because WayneJames (guys GT) kept staying back like a baby and didn't do anything

Another guy: Yeah and that other guy too.

WayneJames: Yo man **** you, you're just mad because you stopped sucking my ****. (WTF?)

Some Guy: Hey WayneJames I'm gonna stick my finger up your butt. (WTF?)

By this time I had heard enough and had muted my mic again. After the next match I unmuted to listen in on the morons.

Random Guy: I like big butts and I cannot lie... (trails off as no one responds). The same guy then says "Who likes Cheese its?" *awkward silence* "I love cheese its."

Another Guy: No way man gold fish are WAY better.

3rd Guy: Lol, dats wack, you just watch your kids and make them put gold fish up their butts. (again, WTF?)

During the match I unmuted my mic to communicate with my team for a minute.

Me: Hey there's a guy in that tunnel (on Ambush)

Some guy: **** You Jackie Chann (my gamertag) you ****** asian!

I promptly muted my mic and the headset again.

After the next match I again unmuted my mic and heard this before I left.

Another random guy: Damn dude nice **** (refering to the top guys score)

So, if mics really make online gameplay better why is the most intelligent thing said have something to do with cheese its?

Actually I'm just kidding. I think mics can greatly improve the online factor in a game and make it feel like you are playing against another human instead of just A.I. Unfortunately there are some people who abuse the mic and make everyone listening want to commit suicide. This part was added because the people who actually think I'm dissing the mics on Xbox Live probably won't read much more than the topic title and they DEFINITELY won't read this part because it is over 1 and a half lines.

Haha...when I play Socom everyone has a mic and they use it for the game about 90% of the time. There are always the people who say the random nonsense and the ones that swear at everything.

To get things straight BEFOREHAND....I do love my PS3, but I can't get enough of my buddie's XBOX Live Call of Duty 4 account. However, it is my expierence that XB360 communicators like to talk about random crap, and prefer to curse WAY more than they need to. PS3 owners who DO have a mic, like myself, tend to deal with what's going on in the game and are a bit more leisure about things. No doubt that some games just have those idiots who down everybody, but this seems to happen more on the 360 than the PS3.

I agree with this.

also it depends on games you play

example: GRAW community>>>>>>>>>Gears/Halo/COD4 community combined

popular games attract more idiots.

its not just XBL. The PSN was a place I've met some of the coolest gamers and usually everyone is really nice. But last night me and my friend were sitting in the lobby of COD4 and I decided to start up a game, it loaded us in the game and the first thing I hear is some guy going off about n***ers. lol "go figure" I thought.

anyways, dumb people are not limited to any service. They are all around you ready to strike at any time.

That more people use mics is the reason I get all online games for my 360. Sure there's jerks on XBL, just send a friend request to the players you enjoy playing with. Before too long there will always be a few people online playing a game you enjoy.

Simply put, Do what I do. Only play with friends. No one ever said everyone on LIVE with a mic was a saint. I usually mute about 89.99% of the people on my team and the other. I just talk to the three or four friends I am in a party with.

you said ps3 owners with mic's tend to deal with whats going on and a bit leisure about things. you need to stop with that BS. or you really need to play warhark,ut3, and rfom. because i also get idiots that make fun of people from diffrent counrties, color, or the way they talk. so please just stop trying to make it a 360 owners thing. when it's not. the only reason why their aren't more poeple doing as much as 360 owner. is because it doesn't come standard with the system.

Interactions like this have been around since the beginning of time when it comes to very large groups of random people, Xbox live, psn, pc chats are no different.

As for that I would rather have the choice on xbox live to hear people mute them, then to play 1 game out of a 100 on psn where a person (1 person) actually has a mic.

I think people greatly exaggerate the amount of people that dont have mics on the PS3. I have played Resistance, Rainbow Six, Warhawk, SC4, COD4, etc.. and finding people with mics is not that hard at all. Not to mention the fact that even when I find people with mics there have been plenty of times I wished they didnt have one.

Basically the people interested in talking get mics, the people who casually don't care about talking and could possibly just abuse the mic is reduced.

Mics>>No mics. Fact.

And I hate it when people say that XBL is filled with screaming, swearing 10 year olds. Well it's not. There are plenty of cool people out there on XBL. Plenty.

It doesn't take much effort to mute people. That aside, moar mics ARE better, the benefit of being able to hear more people outweighs the stupidity that will always exist.

People make it sound like its impossible to have a mic on the PS3. Any Bluetooth mic works. The people on PSN with mics are the people who want a mic to talk, and the people without are the people who chose not to. Its far from a ghost town on PSN and there are plenty of times I have to mute people or just kick them out of a room because they abuse the mic. I honestly don't see the huge deal MS fans make about the mics. I have more then enough people on PSN to talk to, does everyone really talk to every single person and are they always happy with the results.

The truth is you get a new game, either play it with your friends who already have mics or you make new friends on the game by just running into people with mics and talking to them. I dont know, maybe its just me but I am never at a shortage of people with mics to play with.

Trash talking is common. Most nights I find the childish banter amusing. The nights I don't, I just turn off the mic and sound.

Mics do make online gaming better, and there is no viable substitute.

However this is as rare as it is to find people like this in real life so... good luck.

Coming from a guy who has played on the PSN without touching Live for nearly a year... more mics are a good thing. Sure, you run into ignorant people here and there, but then you run into some really cool people. On the PSN, the silence can be a blessing, because sometimes you just dont want to hear it. But you will run into the occasional annoying/rude person on there as well.

So, really it comes down to preference. To me, it comes down to my mood. Sometimes I like the silence and other times I like the conversations.

I belive using a keyboard to talk to strangers online is far easier than using a mic. I just find it more comfortable. Plus people tend to behave better when they arn't using their own voice in some misinformed attempt to impress their freinds. On the other hand, I find it histerical when people overact to everything. It makes for some fun times getting on the nerves of some really thick people (They do it to themselves to be honest).

Mics are the reason i hate XBL actually. For every serious user theres another who shouts of random nonsense i dont care to hear.

Its actually why the PC will always be my preffered online outlet. Keyboard > Mic. Always. No voice to a keyboard. And everyone is always playing with one.

I have thousands of matches played in COD and about 1/3 were full of D-bags.....With that said...the other 2/3 were epic and enjoyable....I am not going to dismiss the majority of games played were really fun...

If there is a problem....I mute..and if the whole room sucks..then I find a new room to play in...

Videogamers are essentially the degernerates of modern day society. We get looked down all the time by the public and for reasons like this.

But the bottom line is MICS are a good thing. Without MICS you cannot communicate and communication is the key to teamwork. Which is why MICS on XBL are great.

Try playing a pick up game of basketball without ever talking. It wouldn't work.
